Toronto is the capital of the province of Ontario and Canada's largest city, but it is truly an international city! In Canada, which embraces the philosophy of multiculturalism, Toronto has one of the most culturally diverse populations with more than 100 ethnic groups speaking approximately 100 different languages.

The meaning of the name, "Toronto", is derived from the Huron Indian language and means "place of meeting".

The main street in the city, Yonge Street, is the longest street in the world (about 1,200 miles/ 1,800 km long)!

Until 2007, Toronto was the site of the world's tallest free-standing structure, the CN Tower (which dominates most photos of the skyline) which has been described as one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World!

Toronto's Major League sports teams include the Blue Jays (baseball), Maple Leafs (ice hockey), Raptors (basketball), and Argonauts (Canadian football). It is also the home of the Hockey Hall of Fame, where you can see the Stanley Cup on display.

Although located in a country with territory falling within the Artic Circle, Toronto is located south of some of the states in the United States! At a Latitude of 43.65 (Longitude: -79.38), it is situated south of North Dakota, Montana and Washington; most of Maine, Michigan, Wisconsin, South Dakota, Minnesota, Montana; and south of parts of New Hampshire, Vermont, New York, Idaho and Oregon!

Average temperatures in Toronto are +7.4C (45.3F) in Spring, +20.7C (69.3F) in Summer, +10.8C (51.4F) in Autumn, and -3.3C (26.1F) in Winter.
