DINING IN TORONTO

Kensington Market

Kensington Market

Toronto is a City where food rules! Whether your taste is for the simple or the sublime, the City is overflowing with great places to eat. Understandably, there are just too many to list, so here are just a selected few. I would suggest checking Toronto Life or Toronto.com to search out any particular type of cuisine you want to try. (Of course, there's always McDonald's, but why not try something new?!)

  • 360 Restaurant (CN Tower)  301 Front Street West, Toronto
This restaurant perches atop the CN Tower and revolves for a wonderful view of the Toronto area! Worth the visit, even if not the best food in the City.
  • Castle & Elephant  212 King St. West, Toronto
This British-style restaurant-pub is comfortably furnished and decorated with English bric-a-brac. On the menu are traditional British meals, as well as imported beers and ales.
  • The Keg Mansion  515 Jarvis Street, Toronto
The Keg Mansion restaurant is an old converted mansion located north of Wellesley, on Jarvis. They offer fine cuisine, and have a bar and billiard facilities. This structure was originally the home of Lord William McMaster in the mid-1800s. Later, it was occupied by Hart Massy (of Massey Hall fame) and his family who had such distinguished guests as King George IV and Queen Mary. It was in the Massey family until about 1920. Said to be haunted by the apparition of a maid who hanged herself when Lillian Massey died.
  • Kensington Market  area west of Spadina Avenue and south of College Street, Toronto
In Kensington Market, you can find a wide variety of ethnic cuisines. Mostly comprised of small shops, you can find just about anything here! Worth a walk through, just to get a whiff of the interesting smells of exotic spices.
  • Richtree - Movenpick Restaurant  42 Yonge St., Toronto
Continental cuisine with offerings that include everything from salads to Italian panini sandwiches. Excellent soup! All items are served fresh, prepared right before your eyes.
  • Wayne Gretzky's Restaurant  99 Blue Jays Way (Peter St.), Toronto
If you're a Wayne Gretzky fan, this is the place to eat! The restaurant has been designed to display Wayne's personal collection of souvenirs, trophies and mementos from a variety of friends. Comfortable...like home!

In addition to these particular recommended restaurants, there are several areas in Toronto noted for their ethnic specialties:

  • Greek

Greek Town is located on Danforth Avenue between Chester and Pape. This area has clothing boutiques, lots of great cafes and Greek restaurants.
  • Chinese or Vietnamese

Chinatown is located at Spadina and Dundas (the main Chinatown of five Chinatowns in Toronto). This area is well-known for fresh produce and its authentic Chinese/Vietnamese restaurants.
  • East Indian

The area to be in is at Gerrard and Coxwell. Here, there are numerous fabric stores and spice/dry food stores, in addition to restaurants.
  • African & Caribbean

The area to be in is on Eglinton at Dufferin.
  • Korean & Japanese

The area to be in is along Bloor Street, between Christie and Bathurst subway stations.
