Additional Assessment Plan Task 2 (IL->A only) : Students will write a letter to a local agency regarding a nutrition-related issue. In the letter, they will state the nutrition-related concern and offer at least two possible solutions.

Beginning-Level Lessons [unit overview] | |
Task 1: |
Students will learn about the USDA food pyramid, food groups represented, and what is considered a healthy American diet. Students will also learn vocabulary for common American foods. |
Task 2: “Comparison Shopping”
|
Students will compare prices for produce items at different food resources (e.g. supermarket, farmer's market, etc.), and determine the most economical choice overall. Students will also learn vocabulary for fruits and vegetables commonly available in the U.S.

Intermediate-Advanced Level Lessons [ unit overview] | |
Task 1: “Analyze Eating Habits ” |
Students will learn about the USDA food pyramid, food groups represented, and what is considered a healthy American diet. Students will also learn vocabulary for common American foods. |
Task 2: “Writing a Letter to a Local Agency ” |
Students will learn how to write a letter to a local agency regarding a nutrition-related issue. They will learn the standard conventions of a modern business letter in the U.S. They will also learn how to articulate their suggestion, request or complaint, give clear examples of the problem, and recommend possible solutions. |
