GUN CONTROL:
Liberal Thinking: Death or injury to those who can't use martial arts or other non-lethal means of self-defense-- The young, the old, the infirm, the disabled, the weak, the small, and the pregnant--are simply the necessary sacrifice we must make to criminals, to avoid the risks of letting honest, law abiding people be armed.

T.O. police fear influx of U.S. guns into Canada
While guns purchased in Canada that are later stolen from their owners comprise a major source for the illegal trade, the coalition says smuggled guns account for more than half the handguns recovered by police that are used to commit crimes in Canada. "Pointing to the obvious problem of U.S. guns coming into Canada has sort of been the invisible elephant that nobody's been prepared to address," Cukier said. Keys said guns purchased in the U.S. for $200 can easily earn $500 in Toronto, while newer and higher-quality handguns can fetch upwards of $2,000. ("While guns purchased in Canada that are later stolen from their owners comprise a major source for the illegal trade" this is a load of crap, that has no support from any statistical data released by anyone, that shows stolen guns are a "major source for illegal trade"! What she means by "smuggled guns account for more than half the handguns recovered by police that are used to commit crimes in Canada" is probably 85-95%.  There are far more stolen 'cars' involved in the death of an innocent, than probably any other stolen object, but I don't see this 'government shill' shrieking for more 'car control'. "Keys said guns purchased in the U.S. for $200 can easily earn $500 in Toronto, while newer and higher-quality handguns can fetch upwards of $2,000." Of course they can! The Liberal firearms act has created the biggest black market for a product since the days of prohibition, and we ALL know how well 'that' went. Had the government not driven the vast majority of firearms manufacturers in Canada out of business, they would have more control over how and where firearms are distributed. Instead, the whole thing has gone underground, and like the booze of the prohibition era, the government has lost ALL direct control over the product. They only difference of course, is that booze can make a person do things they would not normally do. Guns are simply inanimate objects, that require a 'criminal' to actually use one in a crime. As the government has been told for years, we need CRIMINAL control, not laws that prevent honest people from owning property. The criminal will ALWAYS find a gun, and NO controls are going to prevent that. If they did, the 70+ year old handgun registry would have made a difference over the last 70+ years, or isn't 70+ years long enough for a 'liberal' test?)
Film fest chief defends 'Karla' screening
The head of the Montreal World Film Festival is defending the decision to screen a controversial new film about Karla Homolka. Festival organizers announced Monday that this year's event would host a special screening of Karla, a $5-million US film based on the true story of how Homolka and then-husband Paul Bernardo killed Ontario schoolgirls Leslie Mahaffy and Kristen French.(Of course, if the Canadian 'Just-Us' system really worked, this bitch would have died hanging beside her pervert husband. It would certainly prevent anyone else from becoming her 'next', and it would have given The families of her victims some 'closure')
Young girl mauled by cougar on Vancouver Island
A four-year-old girl was hospitalized Wednesday after being mauled by a cougar on Vancouver Island near the Kaouk River. The girl was reportedly saved when family members rushed to her rescue and stopped the attack.
She suffered serious injuries to her head and scalp, but conservation officer Peter Pauwels said she's expected to survive.  The attack occurred in the northern part of the island. The girl was first sent to Campbell River hospital, and then airlifted to a Vancouver facility. Pauwels told the Canadian Press that conservation officers and the RCMP are tracking the cougar with dogs. When the cougar is found, the animal will be destroyed. This attack comes just one month after a similar attack in the same region of the island just one month ago. A female tourist was attacked on June 24, near Port Alice. The woman, 54, was part of a group of Germans who were camping in an RV in a remote part of the island. The group and the secure environment of the vehicle wasn't enough to deter the giant cat. The cougar entered the RV, where it attacked the woman. Her husband managed to intervene, using a stick to chase the cougar away. The woman suffered a black eye and required stitches. Officials say it's difficult to anticipate a cougar attack, because the predators are highly unpredictable. It's possible the animals are aggressive on the island because of current low prey populations.(It would seem that the current 'prey' population seems to meet the requirements of the cougar! Of course, according to liberal dogma, the man and wife in the R.V., as well as the family of the little girl, would be considered 'criminals', and a danger to others, had they carried a firearm for self defence while in cougar country. No doubt, if they had shot the animal, they would have been arrested for unsafe storage, or some other made in Ottawa crime. )
Firearms boss finds 'notable progress'
(and other liberal feel-good fallacies)
More than 3,000 Canadians had a gun licence revoked or refused last year, according to a new report from the federal firearms commissioner. Most had their licences yanked or rejected due to a prohibition or probation order, while others were turned down due to a violent past, a mental health issue or because they were deemed a potential risk to themselves or others. As of last December, nearly seven million firearms were registered under the controversial program, according to the annual report from commissioner William Baker. Pointing to initiatives designed to curb costs, streamline operations and boost capacity, Baker said the 2004 figures reflect a year of "notable progress." Since the Firearms Act was passed in 1998, nearly 14,000 applications to acquire or keep firearms were rejected, cutting the risk of death, injury, crime and threat, he said. (Big deal!! Just Numbers!! If refusing a licence, and most were in all likelihood refused for 'technical' errors, actually 'prevented' someone from having a firearm, and using it to commit a crime, these numbers might be of significance. But nope. When someone is rejected/refused/whatever, they are simply deleted from the database, No one checks to see if they have any firearms, and know one gives a rats ass if they move. They are simply taken out of the system, and ignored. First off, you know the refusenicks are NOT criminals, because criminals do not register their guns, or even try to buy them legally. As a matter of fact, you can, and some have, used the names of notorious criminals as references, and STILL received their firearms licence. Why? because the Feds simply can't do the background reference checks that used to be standard procedure under the old FAC system, which had a much higher refusal rate than the current farce. Now that the Feds are crowing about refusing 0.7 of one percent, of 2 MILLION applicants, does this make you feel any safer? I didn't think so!)

In making his apology, Blair also defended the police for Friday's shooting. "We are all desperately sorry for the death of an innocent person and I understand entirely the feelings of the young man's family, but we also have to understand the police are doing their job in very, very difficult circumstances," Blair said. "Had the circumstances been different and had this turned out to be a terrorist, and they had failed to take that action, they would have been criticized the other way." The BBC reported that 27-year-old Menezes' visa had expired, suggesting this may have been why he ran from police Friday before being shot. However, Menezes' cousin said the visa was still valid. Menezes' family on Monday threatened to take legal action. "They have to pay for that in many ways, because if they do not, they are going to kill many people," his cousin, Alex Pereira, told BBC television. "They killed my cousin; they could kill anyone." Menezes was followed by plainclothes officers after he left an apartment bloc in Tulse Hill that was under surveillance. Wearing a padded jacket, he boarded a bus and travelled to the nearby Stockwell subway station. According to officials, his clothing and behaviour aroused the suspicions of police, who ordered him to stop. Witnesses said Menezes ran into a subway car, where officers shot him. It was unclear why Menezes, who spoke English, did not stop. (Two things are going to happen here.. The next time the cops run down a suspected bomber, they'll remember this, and will hesitate just long enough for the suspected bomber to push the button and kill everyone in the immediate vicinity. The Second thing that will happen is petty crooks all over london will stop dead in their tracks, throw up their hands, and say "YES SIR" when told to STOP by the police.. It's unfortunate an innocent man was shot, but he wasn't shot for acting innocently. He could have just as easily been another bomber and killed scores of people. Had he not run, he would be alive today.)
Jamaican Senator proposes firearms registry

OPPOSITION Senator Arthur Williams is recommending that the bill amending the Firearms Act, to introduce an independent authority to grant firearm licences, should also provide the authority with the power to set up a national firearms registry. "The firearms registry which I propose is not one to merely keep a record of the type of firearm and the serial number, but also to keep the ballistics record of each firearm," Williams contended.
Marks made on a bullet or cartridge cases, when a firearm is discharged, are unique to that firearm, he pointed out, and an exact matching with a test bullet or cartridge case is accepatble in court as proof that the bullet was fired from a specific gun. The legislation was discussed in the Senate Friday, but passage was delayed on a vote to allow time for a policy position to be taken by government on whether the proposed firearms authority would be responsible for a review of existing gun licences.(Look!! 'Another' political clown, that has not only failed to pay attention to gun registry failures all over the world, but now, wants to combine it with the junk science of casing to firearm identification. Jamaica has a problem with guns, but only criminal guns. I doubt very much if the people that pay the Jamaican government $10,000.00 a year for a firearms licence are the ones causing the problems with guns. Does he 'really' think that registering all the legally owned guns on his little island is going to make a difference in the 'criminal' use of guns? Have a look at Canada you idiot! After almost 2 billion dollars wasted, Is it making a difference here? It sure is, The resulting black market has put literally millions of more guns on the street, many of them owned by 'illegal' immigrants from your country, shooting 'other' legal, and illegal immigrants from your country!)
TERMINATED-
With Extreme 'PREJUDICE'

London, 22 July 2005 (RFE/RL) -- "City of Fear" is how one British newspaper described London today -- and that was before the police shooting at the Stockwell subway station in South London. A police spokeswoman said the man was challenged by officers at Stockwell station and then shot and killed. Subway passenger Mark Whitby was an eyewitness to the shooting and described to Reuters what he saw. "I heard a lot of shouting, 'Get down, get out.' I looked to my right. I saw a [man] run onto the train. Asian guy," Whitby said. "He ran onto the train, he was running so fast he half, sort of, tripped. He was being pursued by three guys. One had a black handgun in his hand, left hand, and as [the man being pursued] sort of went down, two of them sort of dropped onto him to hold him down and the other one fired. I heard five shots." (Well!!! I guess that settles 'that' doesn't it! MI-5 'does' have a Double '0' agent classification it would seem)
Canadian Transit Put on Heightened Alert!
TORONTO, OTTAWA -- Rail and transit networks across Canada were put on heightened security alert by the federal government yesterday even as Public Security Minister Anne McLellan acknowledged it is virtually impossible to protect mass-transit systems from a determined terrorist attack. "Nobody is under any illusions," Ms. McLellan said yesterday afternoon. "Because of the nature of mass public transit, you simply cannot control for every situation."(Other than Annie's  'illusion' that the firearms registry keeps us safe, there might be 'one' benefit to the stupid firearms act! If it were not for the gigantic black market it has created for illegal firearms in this country, NO ONE on the subway or transit systems would be armed. Seeing that police do not ride the subway or busses, Toronto transit cops are unarmed, and unlike the average American, ordinary 'qualified' Canadian citizens are not trusted by our government, and therefore not permitted to carry a concealed firearm for self defence. We just might have to depend on one of the many armed Toronto criminals for our transit security. Feel Safer Yet?)
Ontario kids plagued by drownings, close calls
2nd leading cause of accidental death
Overall, the CIHI report found drowning was the second leading cause of accidental death, behind car crashes, among children under five in Ontario in 2002-03. Almost half -- 48% -- of near-drownings in the province involve kids in that age group. And children don't have to be swimming to be at risk. The majority -- 76% -- who drowned or nearly drowned in Ontario in 2002-03 were playing near water, on swimming pool decks, near a river or in the sand on a beach. (It would seem the Liberals have dropped the ball on this one.. They would have saved many more lives by spending the two billion dollars registering and licensing 'pools of water' and 'waterfronts' in general. You know the motto for wasteful and reckless spending (or simply for re-directing funds ala ad-scam) by liberals in Ottawa "Hey if it only saves one life!" )
Firearms trickle back from Ithaca Gun Co.
People who sent firearms to the Ithaca Gun Co. for repair before the troubled manufacturer shut its doors last month are beginning to get them back, while an emerging group of firearms-related businesses are setting their sights on what's left of the historic firm. Ithaca Gun closed in a tangle of financial difficulties, including owing thousands in excise taxes to the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. Earlier this summer, the company voluntarily surrendered its ATF federal firearms license and moved its inventory - including hundreds of guns and pieces of guns it had taken for repair - to Tar-Jac in Seneca Falls. "Ithaca Gun is trying to work it all out, abide by the law and get the guns back into the hands of their rightful owners," said ATF Special Agent Joe Green. "We are remaining in contact to insure that is happening."(If Ithaca charged your C/C and did not perform the work, you simply do a 'charge back' through the credit card company. Your card will be reimbursed for the amount originally charged. This process is in place, to protect buyers from unwarranted charges on their cards.)
Cops scooping up more illegal guns
Police in metro Halifax have seized an average of one gun every two days since May 1. "Firearms are more prevalent now than they were 10 years ago," said Const. Bruce Reid, an RCMP member of the National Weapons Enforcement Support Team.  "There's just more out there." The integrated team, which has two members in Nova Scotia, targets the illegal movement and use of firearms. Since May 1 alone, police have helped seize 37 guns in metro Halifax and a total of 85 throughout the province. Const. Reid and Det. Shane Halliday of Halifax Regional Police, head of the team for the Atlantic region, are called in to help investigators deal with weapons-related cases all over the province, such as Wednesday's early morning shooting in Halifax.  Spokeswoman Theresa Brien of Halifax Regional Police said that although it may seem like more guns are in the community, "it's actually not an increase in the number of guns on the streets that we're seeing but rather it's an increase in the guns seized."(Well, isn't 'this' a bag full of convoluted doublespeak!! The RCMP NWEST guy says "Firearms are more prevalent now than they were 10 years ago," &  "there are just more guns out there" The spokes thingy says "although it may seem like more guns are in the community, "it's actually not an increase in the number of guns on the streets that we're seeing but rather it's an increase in the guns seized." ??? So, in other words, the guns they are seizing are NOT on the street, and NOT criminal guns, and all they know 'for sure' is that more guns started appearing about the same time the Liberals introduced their asinine firearms act, thereby creating the ever expanding black market for criminal use guns! Well Gee!!! Who woulda thunk it!! The guns they are seizing now, are among the MILLIONS and MILLIONS and MILLIONS of guns in attics /closets /basements /barns /garages all across this country. Owned by people who will never use them in a crime, and in most cases have owned them for many many years.. If those guns are stolen, the owners are VICTIMS not CRIMINALS they are only made to 'look' like criminals so that NWEST (the liberal gun cops) look as if they are a 'useful' organization instead of the liberal controlled 'harassment squad' they may very well be!)
Consultations on a new Fairness Initiative
Toronto, Ontario, July 11, 2005 -- The Honourable Anne McLellan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness and Minister responsible for the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), announced today the launch of a consultation process on a new Fairness Initiative to ensure that Canadians and visitors to Canada are treated fairly and can expect to receive the best possible service when crossing the border and in all other dealings with the CBSA. This Initiative includes a series of proposed commitments on how people should expect to be treated by the CBSA. The CBSA will start consulting immediately with clients and stakeholders, including members of the Cross-Cultural Roundtable on Security and ethno-cultural communities, in order to obtain their feedback. These consultations will be conducted across the country until the fall. The CBSA wants to ensure its clients’ views and perceptions are taken into consideration in the development of a comprehensive, unbiased and transparent Fairness Initiative.(Ho-Hum! 'Another' Liberal "consultation process".. Let me tell you how this works.. It works the same way as every other Liberal "consultation process". They will span the country, spending millions (actually, just re-distributed to friends in the advertising industry) while going through the motions of 'talking to people'. THEN, once it's 'completed', they do what ever the hell it was they were going to do in the first place, and any generated report will largely become yet another cabinet secret! This is what happens when Liberals are in charge. No other political party can 'fake'  a "consultation process" quite like these shysters. And the sad part? Morons in Ontario keep voting them back into power because they are not 'comfortable' with change! Well, get used to it! After another term of these lying, taxing,  bastards, all you'll have left in your pockets is 'change')
Conservative Senator Anne Cools Lashes Out At PM Martin: "Not Personal Servants of The PM"
The Senate has not been immune to the heated debate over the same-sex marriage issue and it has been reported that individual senators are receiving reams of letters and emails from those who oppose the bill. Senator Cools conveyed some harsh words toward Paul Martin accusing him of attempting to hasten the bill through in record time saying, "It is wanton disregard and wanton disrespect. The Senate of Canada is not the personal servant of the prime minister." It was just over a year ago that Cools made headlines for leaving the Liberal senate caucus and crossing the floor to the Conservative side. At the time, Cools explained that her decision to change sides was based on her disapproval of the manner in which the sponsorship scandal was being handled as well as the unnecessary billions of dollars which have been pumped into the gun registry. According to Christian Coalition International Canada, Cools who has in the past worked with that organization, is "an ardent defender and upholder of traditional family values in the face of unparalleled manipulation of the democratic process by special interests." Cools was appointed to the Senate by the late Prime Minister Pierre Elliot Trudeau.(Appointing 'Cools' is the only 'smart' thing that arrogant asshole ever did.. I hope the senate has enough sense to stall this bill until the next election. Martin and his merry band of thieves has NEVER had a mandate  to push through same sex marriage, and this SHOULD be an election issue. The problem is that Martin fears facing the people on this, as the 'acting' liberal dictator in charge, he feels it's his duty to force this on the country. Civil Unions are fine, but MARRIAGE has been about one man and one woman all through the ages, and 'these' liberals feel they they have the right to trash aeons of human tradition., just to look politically correct. I think it's about time Canada trashed the liberals and their asinine social re-engineering plans.)
The reality about gun deaths differs from the impression
Rarely a day goes by that we don't hear of someone, somewhere in Canada, suffering a grisly death as a result of a firearm. Most recently, the high-profile gun murders of a mother and her two children in London, Ont., and of four RCMP officers in Mayerthorpe, Alta., can easily give the impression that gun violence is out of control. But there is some sad news as well: Eighty per cent of gun deaths aren't homicides, but suicides. And while gun-related suicides have dropped along with gun-related homicides, the suicide rate has remained relatively constant, as people increasingly choose other means of ending their lives. Perhaps the saddest news is that northern Canada is home to far more firearms-related deaths than anywhere else in Canada. In contrast to Canada's rate of 2.7 deaths per 100,000 people, Yukon and Northwest Territories experience about 10 deaths per 100,000, and Nunavut saw 17.8 deaths per 100,000 in 2000-2002, all of them from suicides. Still, though, the fact that fewer people are using guns to commit suicide (and that there are now fewer accidental gun deaths) suggests that some legislation -- such as 1977's law requiring people to have a Firearms Acquisitions Certificate -- might have helped to keep guns out of the hands of vulnerable people.(First off, there was NO gun murder of a mother and her two children, there was only a 'gun' suicide. The mother and her children were stabbed to death by the murderer, who then shot himself. So what if firearm suicides are down, if the suicide rate has not changed? Or, perhaps, it's just more politically correct to slowly strangle at the end of a rope, then have an instant death by gunshot. The saddest part of all, is that 'registering' a gun, will not prevent it's use in a suicide. Only by increasing funding to actually help people with what they feel are insurmountable problems, will bring the suicide rate down. The draconian firearm laws in this country, have only resulted in the sale of more 'rope', and the Liberals are just too stupid, narrow minded, and myopic to see the problem!)
A gun, Israeli women and cash.
Those are among the incentives for Ryan Paddock who quit his job at a Winnipeg convenience store to immigrate to Israel this month along with 400 other Canadians. Some, like the 19-year-old Winnipegger, want to serve in Israel's armed forces as the country embarks on a plan to withdraw from settlements in the Gaza Strip and parts of the West Bank. Other Canadians are moving because they think that now, more than ever, Israel needs their help to stabilize the economy, grow businesses and strengthen the democratic process. Mainly, Paddock says, he wants to be a paratrooper, have some adventure and hopefully meet a girl. And Israel wants him. The state and private donors are giving him thousands of dollars in grants to make the move. Tax breaks and free tuition are offered to Jews who immigrate to Israel, as well as deals on houses. "The Canadian army doesn't do much. It's kind of small. I'd rather be part of an army that's fighting for something,'' he said. "I've always wanted to learn another language and maybe I'll meet someone. I'd like that.'' Paddock said he's bored with Winnipeg and his convenience store job. The perks Israel dangles in front of North American newcomers have become more enticing, said Josh Neuman, editor of Heeb, a Jewish pop-culture magazine. "Free trips, falafels better than any you'll find in North America,'' he said. "They give you a gun (on joining the army), the women are beautiful. We shouldn't be surprised the offer has so much appeal.'' (If Ontario is stupid enough to vote these thieving, lying,   liberals back into power at the next election, more and more people are going to recognize this as a pretty good deal! )
A Canadian military with teeth
As terrorists become more and more daring, vile and vicious, we would be wise to shed our complacency and put ourselves on alert before they strike here. The comment by councillor  Howard Moscoe that terrorists would have to find out where Toronto is before they could attack us is the height of stupidity. Al-Qaeda has already published its hit-list of "infidel", read Christian, countries, and Canada is 5th on the list. The top four have now been hit so for Christ’s sake let us wake up to the danger all around us before it’s too late.  We should start with turning our military into a world class fighting force. Ever since the "Evil Empire" disintegrated, signaling the end of the Cold War, we have disgracefully neglected Canada’s Armed Forces.  Then came the recent SNAFU by the U.S. Air Force, in Afghanistan, in which their "Friendly Fire" killed and wounded Canadian troops who were helping them to hunt down Al Qaeda terrorists.  (Howard Moscoe is an ass!! Most of the terrorist cells in Canada, in all probability, already LIVE in Toronto. As for beefing up the military. It's a nice dream, but first you have to have the balls to get rid of the liberals at the next election. NOTHING, will change until their gone. Canada will remain the virtually toothless, and  imaginary "peace keepers" the liberals insist we are! It's not a matter of IF we will be attacked, but WHEN. I for one, don't have much hope for Annie's "Culture of Safety", particularly if I have to depend on one of her 'imaginary' solutions to provide it for me! If the Canadian Military gets "teeth" from the liberals, you can bet they will be 'sponge dentures' just so they won't be dangerous and maybe hurt someone! Remember, right now, their training with rented paintball guns..What a joke they've turned our once proud military into! )
Study ties hundreds of people to Liberal scandal
Reviews of the sponsorship scandal and testimony given at the Gomery inquiry have turned up the names of 565 people and organizations who have been accused -- rightly or wrongly -- of playing a hand in the affair, a new report by a right-wing think tank says. Prime Minister Paul Martin and others in his party have suggested that the scandal, which saw millions of dollars funnelled from government coffers to Liberal-friendly ad agencies, was committed by just a handful of people. But the study released yesterday by the Fraser Institute suggests corruption was widespread and that many of the alleged perpetrators have contributed large sums to the federal Liberals. He then scoured the Kroll Lindquist Avey forensic accounting report commissioned by the Gomery inquiry and testimony from the inquiry itself. In the end, he had a list of 565 people and organizations who had been implicated, either by their own testimony or directly by that of someone else, of acting inappropriately in relation to the sponsorship fund. Some of those named will ultimately be found blameless, said Mr. Mullins "because some testimony has been directly contradicted by someone else." But it's also true, he said, that many of the names on the list are major donors to the Liberal Party. When Mr. Mullins matched the 565 names with Elections Canada's list of political donors, he found they had collectively given $4-million to all federal parties; 98 per cent went to the Liberals.(Now that the liberal's main source of revenue has been discovered, and thanks to their own change to the political donation laws, what will they do for money now? With no auditing of the many liberal created "foundations" full of taxpayers money, and the possible skimming from the gun registry (how else could it have cost that much?) their down to only a few sources left.. No wonder the liberals would prefer calling and election in the spring. This winter, Martin could then do what he's done already, and that's 'again', tour the country from coast to coast, on one of his non election election campaigns handing out taxpayer funded freebies while travelling and sponging once again on the beleaguered taxpayer. The sooner these socialistic leeches are out of government and the taxpayers pockets,  the better)
'You're infuriating,'
Bono tells Canadian PM
Irish rock star and anti-poverty activist Bono has given up his fight to persuade Canada to boost foreign aid - but not before telling Prime Minister Paul Martin he was a pain to deal with. Bono, like his fellow Irish rock star Bob Geldof, had openly pressed Martin to give a date by which Canada would raise its overseas assistance to 0.7 per cent of Gross Domestic Product. Martin refuses, saying it could be too expensive, and stuck to his guns during a meeting with Bono on the margins of a Group of Eight summit in Scotland. Bono reluctantly admitted he could not force Martin to change his mind. "He's very difficult to deal with because he won't agree to things that he doesn't believe he can deliver, although that is very frustrating and annoying and infuriating," Bono told reporters while standing next to Martin.(Well, I guess he won't be pumping anymore sunshine up Mr Dither's ass in the next election now will he? After all, Canadians have a Gun Registry, and a multitude of 'other' liberal boondoggles and waste to continuously fund until were rid of them after the next election don't we?)
London attacks: Over 40 dead
London - At least 40 people have been killed in the explosions in London, a United States law enforcement official has said. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because British officials have yet to make public the death toll, but US officials learned of the number from their British counterparts. Near simultaneous explosions rocked at least three London subway trains and ripped apart a double-decker bus at the morning rush hour on Thursday, police said, injuring more than 300 people and sending bloodied victims fleeing from debris-strewn blast sites. It has been reported that up to 1 000 people have been injured. (The average Brit. is a sitting duck for these attacks. The Government has virtually legislated self-defence out of existence. If a Brit. riding the 'tube' actually sees a person planting explosives, and holds him at bay with a toy gun until the police arrive, the Brit will be arrested along with the terrorist. As hard as it is to fathom, the Brit would be arrested under the charge of "using a firearm to cause a person fear" It makes no difference if the 'person' is a criminal in the process of raping your wife, or a terrorist attempting to blow up the subway. The Brit "caused" this person "fear" and that's a crime in the U.K. In Canada, you would be arrested at gun point, forced to the ground, handcuffed, and held until one of the 'brighter' police officers discovered you were using a 'replica' firearm, for which you may be charged, but not likely.  Without a change in government in Canada, you can expect the "causing fear" charge, and associated imprisonment, to be implemented in the not to distant future! Feel Safer Yet? )
TTC puts staff on 'vigilance notice'
TORONTO - Transit systems across Canada stepped up vigilance and security precautions Thursday in response to a series of blasts that killed dozens of people in London's subway system.  In Ottawa, a spokeswoman for the Public Safety Department said the government had urged transit authorities to increase their state of alert and request operators to report any unusual occurrences. "The government of Canada has been in touch with Canada's major transit authorities and operators to update them on the attacks and to promote higher alert status for transit operations across Canada," said Cherie Traverse. "Major rail and commuter train operators have also been alerted, and have been advised to increase vigilance." In addition, Canadian airlines were advised to exercise heightened vigilance on flights from the U.K. to Canada, Traverse said. (Lets see!! What would have made more sense? The Liberals putting 2 billion dollars into tracking terrorists in Canada, OR,  spending the 2 billion dollars to to make sure your safe from "Duck Hunters"? It 'should' be a no brainer, because that's exactly what the liberal party is full of.. Well, that and other stuff!!)
US raises threat level for mass transit
The US on Thursday declared a high threat level targeted at the country's mass transit systems, saying it would increase surveillance and inspections on commuter rails, subways and bus systems. The move, announced by Michael Chertoff, the secretary of homeland security, came despite what he said was the absence of any specific intelligence information that similar attacks were planned in the US. But Mr Chertoff said that al-Qaeda's pattern of carrying out similar "copycat attacks" dictated some move by the US. "Common sense tells us we ought to make some reasonable adjustment in the threat level," he said.(The advantage held by the U.S.A. of course is MANY of it's state governments actually TRUST it's citizens to be armed, and carry a concealed firearm. City's that would be targeted by terrorists would not be located in these states, but rather the states, and ALL Canadian Provinces where paranoid liberal governments think anyone that owns a firearms is a nut case, and should never be trusted. Never mind the fact that their are MORE armed citizens in the U.S., than Armed police officers, and the armed police officers currently hold the lead for the most innocent bystanders accidentally shot.)
Gun registry is no lifesaver
"The rate of homicides involving a firearm fell from 0.8 deaths per 100,000 in the early 1980s to 0.4 in 2002 ... the share of homicides in which a firearm was used remained fairly stable." In other words, firearms murders may have gone down during the years in which Ottawa has sought to impose greater controls on guns, but they have declined by no more than murders with bats, knives, poisons and other uncontrolled weapons. And as Ms. Wilkins and others have pointed out, "handguns accounted for two-thirds of firearm homicides in 2002, up from about one-half during the 1990s," and handguns have been subject to mandatory registration since 1934.
We can understand Statistics Canada's reluctance to come right out and pronounce Ottawa's gun controls to be irrelevant: They're statisticians. But taxpayers and laymen are not similarly constrained.(But the liberals only believe Statistics Canada, when they support some form of flawed leftist thinking. I'm sure Annie will be more than happy to point out all the flaws in the Statistics Canada Report.. Seeing that she couldn't make 'this' one a cabinet secret like all the others..)
