The theory that a woman found dead in an alley, raped and strangled with her panty hose, is somehow morally superior to a woman explaining to police how her attacker got that fatal bullet wound. FIREARMS QUICK FACTS By Garry Breitkreuz, MP – Updated January 6th, 2004 The Canadian Police Association only 'SAYS' it Represents Police Officers on the street. Here's what THOSE Officers say about this Gun Registry Farce
![]()
Gun-control advocates plead for PM's support The gun registry has been successful by providing a clear database of who has a permit and who has registered their gun, Haviernick said. It has also fostered a culture of accountability around firearms, she said. Members of the gun lobby now criticizing cost overruns helped create them by deliberately sabotaging the registry by falsifying forms and ignoring the law, Laplante-Edward said.(What a load of crap.. The registry as it stands today, or anytime in the future, can not, would not, could not, stop the madness that Gamil Gharbi (A.K.A. Marc Lapine) a 'licensed' gun owner by the way, inflicted on the students of École Polytechnique.. Ordinary people that happen to hunt or target shoot, are sick and tired of being the scapegoat for a madman. GUNS are not the problem MAD MEN ARE THE PROBLEM! If your children had been mowed down by a drunk driver, you would not be campaigning to ban cars, or booze, but trying your damnedest to get 'this' drunk behind bars, not wasting your time blaming his car! Nor, begging the government to spend ANOTHER billion registering duck hunters. Were sorry for your grief, but perhaps more counselling is what you really need! Not more knee jerk reactions, and wasted tax dollars. This 'firearms act' C-68, by definition, is the epitome of waste, uselessness, and civil rights infringements. It MUST be repealed!) MPs will vet top-court nominees, Liberal says (Read down the page a bit to get to this part!) Liberal backbenchers repeatedly criticized Jean Chrétien for declaring so many confidence votes — a loss would result in an election call — ensuring his legislation got through without much opposition from within his own caucus. As a result, Mr. Gallaway predicted, there will be “real debate,” including debates over the estimates or the money approved by the House for spending on government programs. “You may see this looming in the next two months,” he said. There is growing speculation that Liberal MPs may not approve the estimates for spending on the controversial gun-registry program. Although the Martin government is reviewing the registry, starving it of cash would effectively kill the program. Mr. Gallaway said that MPs had tried to do this last year, but that Mr. Chrétien threatened to expel from caucus any Liberal MP who voted against the estimates. “Suffice it to say that more than a year ago there was a sufficient number of MPs to deny it any further money, thereby ending a law which was premised on deceit and falsehoods.”(Seeing that an election is (or should be) due in the spring, there is nothing to stop MP's from dumping this farce even if it means a confidence vote! Will Martin 'Order' his MP's to vote the way he insists, like Chretien did? or will there actually be some rare form of democracy under a Liberal government for a change? A year ago the majority of MP's wanted to shut this farce down, and now they have the un-fettered chance to make things right! But will they? This is the perfect 'out' for Martin. His ,yet another, 'review' will be as worthless as all the others have been, and he knows it! ) NEW DOCUMENTS PROVE PARLIAMENT STILL BEING MISLED ON GUN REGISTRY The Performance Report should have told MPs the truth as the government Ministers repeatedly promised. Instead they continued the cover-up,” exclaimed Breitkreuz. Paris Hilton joins seal hunt protest (Canoe Link, 'may' vanish with-in 24 hours or less) NEW YORK (AP) -- Escalating a sporadic, 35-year-old protest campaign, opponents of Canada's seal hunt are urging Americans to cancel trips to this country, pushing their cause politically and have even recruited reality-TV star Paris Hilton. Canadian officials, meanwhile, insist the new tactics will fail and say the hunt will continue. (Is 'this' the best they can do? A woman that thinks WalMart sell 'Walls'? Answer: New York Hilton, Hong Kong Hilton, London Hilton, Paris Hilton. Question: Name Three Hotels and a Slut?.. I guess they figure if anyone can 'suck' the life out of something, it's her!) CHINA IS PUTTING PROPERTY RIGHTS IN ITS CONSTITUTION - WHY NOT CANADA? China’s Constitution: “Private property obtained legally shall not be violated.” Canada’s Constitution: Zilch, zip, zero – absolutely no protection of property rights. Why? Because Paul Martin’s Liberals like it that way. Case in point: The class-action suit Authorson v. Canada on July 17, 2003 when the Supreme Court ruled in favour of the federal government and against mentally disabled war veterans. The government amended the Veteran Affairs Act to avoid paying hundreds of millions in interest on pension benefits the government had held in trust for about 30,000 veterans. The Supreme Court stated: “Parliament has the right to expropriate property, even without compensation, if it has made its intention clear and, in s. 5.1(4), Parliament's expropriative intent is clear and unambiguous” and that “the Bill of Rights does not protect against the expropriation of property by the passage of unambiguous legislation.” They even ruled that the Bill of Rights “does not impose on Parliament the duty to provide a hearing before the enactment of legislation.”(Canadians will have a 'real' chance to make a democratic change in this country, this spring. The Liberals, even if they are re-elected, will lose the many, many, seats they currently hold now due to the scourge of 'vote splitting'. Conservative vote splitting is now dead in Canada, and the Liberals are in real trouble. If Garry's property rights bill is killed again, there is no hope for ANY change under Paul Martin. He 'may' be a little further to the 'right' than Chretien was, but Canada still has a definite wobble in the democratic wheels of Canadian justice!) Health care funding pledge not final: Goodale TORONTO — Provinces counting cash they expected to receive from Ottawa for health care may not want to jump the gun, Finance Minister Ralph Goodale warned Tuesday. Ottawa's promised $2 billion to the provinces for health care is still not a "done deal," said Goodale. The federal government is working hard to make good on the promise made last year, but Goodale warned it's still not confirmed. "We're working very hard to achieve it, but it's not achieved yet," Goodale told reporters after delivering a breakfast speech to the Toronto Board of Trade. (Oh I see.. Health care, left in a shambles by HUGE liberal cuts over the last ten years, is 'still' a bottom rung priority. A priority it would seem that is well below the millions and millions to be wasted on the useless licensing / registration of duck guns, and farm tools!. It would also seem that your access to health care, is of less importance than the embarrassment that will be endured by the Liberals if they dump the useless firearms act and replace it with something that works. After wasting almost 2 billion dollars redirected from health care, our military, and the countries security in general, the liberals NEED to experience this embarrassment. We have already experienced the hardships of the Liberal legacy, it's now their turn!) I Know you've been waiting for it.. So Here It Is ! '101 Dumbest Moments in Business' of 2003 HighLights:A Dairy Queen franchisee is successfully sued by a female customer after an employee allegedly slides into her booth, pulls down her sweater, bites her on the breast, and declares, "I am like Dracula."-- The CEO of Clear Channel Radio tries to "backpedal" after disc jockeys at three of the company's radio stations urge listeners to violently attack bicyclists.--General Motors is forced to come up with a new name for its Buick LaCrosse sedan in Canada when executives discover that crosse is a slang term for masturbation in Quebec.-- Ikea pulls a new children's bunk bed called Gutvik from its catalogs in Germany after customers point out that the word sounds like a German phrase meaning "good f**k." (Unfortunately Government is 'never' run like a business, so wasting a Billion Dollars on a 'Gun Control Placebo (in the forma of a virtual suppository)' never made the list..However, it 'did' give Canadian taxpayers a "Gutvic" for their money!) So it 'Looks' -- So it Must Be! Low-powered air guns that meet the Criminal Code definition of a replica firearm are prohibited. In particular, this affects many devices commonly known as "air soft guns". Air soft guns are devices that have a low muzzle velocity and muzzle energy, and that usually discharge projectiles made out of a substance such as plastic or wax rather than metal. To be classified as a prohibited device, an air gun must have been designed to: Look exactly or almost exactly like an existing make and model of firearm, other than an antique firearm; and Discharge no projectiles or discharge only harmless projectiles that are not likely to cause serious injury or death. Devices that resemble a generic firearm rather than an existing make and model of firearm are not generally considered to be replicas. Neither are devices designed to discharge projectiles with enough force to penetrate skin or an eye.(Ok! Lets try to understand this 'liberal logic'! If the object is totally harmless, but 'looks' dangerous, it's classified as 'prohibited' .. I assume because this only applies to something that 'looks' like a gun, a rubber knife would be ok!. On the other hand, if it will actually 'shoot your eye out' or penetrate skin and clothing, it's merely un-controlled, orrestricted ! Hmmmm If I were a criminal, and might get caught and charged , do I want to get charged for having illegal possession of a 'prohibited device' or a illegal possession of a 'restricted' device? Hell, I'll probably do less time if I use a REAL gun won't I, after all, it not 'prohibited, only 'restricted'.. But wait there's more! If my Super, jacked up, high pressure, blow your ass off, 'gas' gun 'looks' like a 'flintlock rifle' then it's perfectly legal.. Sooo, it's ALL based on 'looks' folks.. It's always interesting to know, that the punk with the gun in your face is probably packing a 'real' gun rather than a 'prohibited' replica, it only makes sense. A 'prohibited' replica, which by the way is totally harmless, could only get him facing more time than using the 'real thing' Hmmm.. I always thought Allan Rock 'looked' like an asshole for introducing this jumble of insanity.. perhaps there's some logic in this after all!) MP backs gun registry MONCTON — A New Brunswick member of Parliament says he's willing to defend the federal gun registry during the next election. Charles Hubbard is the MP for the riding of Miramichi where the gun registry processing centre employees more than 100 people. But Hubbard insists that's not the main reason he supports gun registration. "We're looking at the fact that some 70 per cent of Canadians want gun registration and they want security in terms of how they're stored, how they're handled, and who owns them."(There goes that 70% figure again! Don't these Liberal lackeys ever get tired of living in the past! The 70% figure comes from the old Liberal poll that asked an ambiguous question muddled up with old legislation, that relied heavily on the uninformed interviewee to be lead along the garden path.. Far more than 70% of Canadian now oppose this farce, for the sham it really is! I can understand an MP trying to save jobs in his constituency, but 100 jobs is not worth another wasted Billion in tax dollars by any stretch of the imagination. And it 'really' take a stretch in imagination to 'think' you see any benefit at all in this liberal boondoggle. Safe storage, and background checks were in use 'long' before 'this' round of over the top liberal knee jerkin, and ALL gun owners agree with that.. What they don't agree with is the wasting of ANOTHER billion to do what used to work a whole lot better before 'this' bunch of idiots 'fixed it' to an absurdly unworkable level of political correctness) Politics imperiling public safety: Gun control advocate REGINA - A national advocate for gun control is worried that politics is getting ahead of public safety in the debate over Canada's gun registry. Wendy Cukier is the president of The Coalition for Gun Control says people are focusing too much on the cost of gun control, and ignoring its benefits. Cukier, a long-time lobbyist for gun control, concedes the federal government didn't do a good job controlling costs when it launched its licensing and registration program. But Cukier says gun control critics are making too much of the cost overruns. "The costs of the program are higher than were planned," Cukier said. "But the costs of the program are not so outlandish when you compare them to the costs of other programs."(The costs of the program are higher than were planned"?? Wow, NOW THAT'S and understatement if I ever heard one.. "The costs of the program are not so outlandish when you compare them to the costs of other programs"????? How many other programs in the entire history of our country have run 1000% over budget, with NO measurable results what-so-ever? Assuming a old Canadian $1.00 bill is .01 (10 thousands of one inch) thick, to stack a billion 'new' one dollar bills on top of each other, would create a solid block of money just under 158 miles high. The ongoing cost of 100 million a year after that would create 'another' solid block of money just under 16 miles high, every single year! Sure, they say this is money spent over a ten year period, but over the SAME ten year period the government only spent 26 million dollars on breast cancer research. How many women would a billion dollars have saved if spent 'there'. Wendy Cukier is not doing anyone any favours by urging the government to keep this farce and her ongoing funding I might add, alive, while thousands of women die every year from REAL hazards.. So Wendy, just shut up and sit down. You know the old saying, it's better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool, than to open it and remove all doubt. As far as your concerned, the old saying is one hundred, or should I say 1000 percent accurate! It would serve you well to consider the REAL problems women have, rather than dwell on your financial future, and obvious personal phobias) WCB turned its back on workplace hero Manager's life fell to pieces after saving worker from gunfire When Tracey, 28, went outside with Wolfe he shot her in the chest with a .45 calibre revolver. As Tracey staggered back into the dealership, Jacobsen slammed the door on the enraged Wolfe. He ran through the front door and spotted Tracey lying on the floor. Jacobsen got between the pair, begging him to stop. "Enough is enough. You've already got her," Jacobsen recalled saying. Wolfe pushed her aside and shot Tracey in the head. Wolfe, 36 at the time, also fired at least three shots at co-worker Mark Guillet, striking him once. As Guillet lay on the ground, Wolfe pulled the trigger from less than a metre away. The gun was out of bullets. The two men wrestled and Jacobsen managed to grab the gun from Wolfe's hand. Later it was found that Wolfe had more bullets in his pocket. In his written judgement following Wolfe's trial, Supreme Court Justice Glen Parrett cited Jacobsen for bravery and courage. "It is in many respects a truly exceptional example of courage acting under very trying circumstances, and I think it's important that we and the community recognize that," Parrett wrote. But that did not happen. Just the opposite befell Jacobsen. Jacobsen applied to the Workers Compensation Board for help but was turned down because, in the board's opinion, the shooting and her subsequent troubles were not work related. She tried to appeal, but due to her mental state and because she had trouble finding a lawyer, the appeal period came and went. The board closed her file, despite a strongly worded letter by a "compensation advisor" supplied by the B.C. government to help her with the case. The letter called the decision a "tremendous injustice." "Surely no reasonable person, having reviewed all of the available information, could come to such an unreasonable conclusions as was done in this case," wrote H. Michael Campbell. "The board's decision in this case is simply just wrong." Jacobsen is still in counselling and has recently signed up for a firearms course. Not to learn to shoot, but to deal with the sound of guns being fired. "I've been trying to get the sounds of gunfire out of my head," she said. (Again, if only one other person besides the killer had been armed, a life would have been saved that day. Remember the gun grabber mantra: "if it saves only 'one' life".. Why would saving the life of Tracey Wolfe not be worth it? Why did the Liberal "Culture of Safety" and the Gun Control bill not save Tracey Wolfe. Tracey Wolfe was murdered with a 'handgun' and they have required registration for almost 70 years! Clearly, registration does NOTHING to save lives. Allowing Carmen Jacobeson or any co-worker to to be armed, clearly would have save at least 'one' life. The feeling of utter helplessness during the crises no doubt contributed to her deteriorating mental state. Helplessness is what the government 'want's' you to feel. Citizens who truly feel empowered, do not make good Victims or 'Subjects'. ) Australia is the Bellwether for Canada Blaming gun owners a semi-automatic response In one corner a knot of members is transfixed by a homemade DVD of a fellow hunter's days tracking the highly valued sambar deer in the Victorian highlands, amazed he could get so close to the buck without it fleeing. In another, five new members introduce themselves - European migrants who want to pursue their love of hunting in their new home. The raffle is under way with a gun stock as first prize. But amid the Christmas cheer there is an edge to the meeting which is soured by news of the State Government's increase in the cost of gun licences, from $40 to $200 in some cases. The increase has been justified on the basis that $5 million extra is needed to fund the operations of the Murwillumbah-based firearms registry, which can't keep pace with the bureaucratic requirements of the Government's tough gun laws. Those in the room see the price rise as another smack in the face for those who are also battling moves by the National Parks and Wildlife Service to make it more difficult to hunt deer. While the city has been transfixed by the recent murderous gang wars in western Sydney, legitimate firearm owners feel they bear the brunt of what is essentially a crime problem. Almost eight years after the horrors of the Port Arthur massacre, the number of people seeking to hold a gun licence in NSW is on the rise. Neither the 1997 buyback of long-arms nor the 2003 buyback of pistols has had much effect on the number of firearms in legal possession. Licensees who were compensated for surrendering firearms in both buybacks have mostly used the money to buy replacement legal guns; some have even increased their armoury out of resentment at the restrictions placed on the sport.(I know the feeling! When I was looking for a new shotgun, I figured 'damn it' if I was going to have to register a shotgun, I was going to buy the 'ugliest, most politically incorrect shot gun' I could find. That was a Norinco 12 ga. tactical with pistol grip, folding stock, rifle sights, and an air cooled shroud on a 18.5" barrel. It's only a shotgun, but it's bound to turn up on Annie's next list of guns banned simply because it's ugly, and I wanted one just to spite the Government! Now how much will licences cost here in the future? Well, they 'do' have to cover 2 billion dollars of initial waste, and the ongoing waste of another 100 million a year.. But hell their Liberals, and they will just make it a 'tax' and every good liberal knows, 'tax dollars' are not 'real' money!) Er...Uh...Hmmm... Ooops! Dead. That's what Belinda Stronach's leadership hopes are if she doesn't make some changes, and quickly. The speech that launched her was disappointing. Her performance in the question and answer period might have been adequate for a defendant on a witness stand, but it was an opportunity missed for someone hoping to motivate others. The first thing she needs is a better speech writer. The second thing is better handlers to prepare her for the questions from a notoriously pro-Liberal media. She was completely on the defensive, and didn't adequately address even something as obvious as her lack of political experience, or answer what differentiates her from Paul Martin. To counter her lack of political experience, she could have responded: How much do you need to know to waste billions in the HRDC boondoggle? How much do you need to know to waste a billion dollars on the gun registry? How much do you need to know to buy the same report twice from a Quebec ad agency? How much do you need to know to hire George Radwanski the day after writing off his taxes? How much do you need to know to give the prime minister's nephew a retroactive raise after he has already left the job? Experience has only made the Liberals more self-serving, and more contemptuous of those who pay their salaries. What we need in government is less "experience" and more vision. And better management. It is not too late for Belinda to win this race. But before she can fix the problems, she has to recognize them. The trouble is, the people advising her quite possibly are the problem.(Everyone running for Conservative leadership should be just 'hammering' the Liberal record of waste and patronage, not just dear ol Belinda.. And don't forget! She's gonna close down that 'long arm' shot gun and rifle registry! I suppose she plans on keeping the 'short arm' shotgun and rifle registry.. Perhaps 'someone' should get her to a range where she can actually learn what the word 'long arm' means!.. Poor Belinda.. Her hearts in the right place, but I think this is going to be the job that daddy can't buy her..) How to do a "Smoke and Mirrors" Show EDMONTON, Jan. 22 /CNW/ - "It might look like a spontaneous campaign, but it certainly is not," states Jim Hinter, National President of Canada's 147,000 Member strong National Firearms Association. "Over the past several days, we have seen various chiefs of police and other spokespersons speaking out in full support of the federal government's firearms control scheme," Hinter continued, speaking from the National Firearms Association's Edmonton headquarters. "This orchestrated campaign was put together at a meeting held on September 11, 2003," stated Hinter. "This meeting was part of a series of consultations that the Canada Firearms Centre held with several groups. That September 11th meeting was held on a day when many Canadians were remembering the horrific events of the terrorist attacks against our freedoms. The main goals of the Canada Firearms Centre and their "Partners" appears to have been to plan how to sell this failed program to Canadians,"(Things are getting desperate for the 'tax dollar parasites' that feed off the firearms program. The money is going to dry up, and panic is setting in. The Police Chiefs that support this farce, sit nice and safe behind their desks. They 'should' be talking to the guys out there getting shot at. Because, the guys out there getting shot at think the registry is a crock, and 'they' should know! ) Another successful(?) 'Canadian Designed' Gun Registry! Pretoria - The central firearm registry apparently has a backlog of nearly 15 000 applications which may "take a year" to process. The applications are apparently from people all over the country, most of whom already applied last year. Senior officials at firearm registration offices in Gauteng and the central registry in Pretoria say the backlog is exacerbated by a "new system," that was introduced on December 22. There are 300 new applications each month. "There's a backlog of about 15 000 applications. At this rate it will take about a year to evaluate all the applications. Applicants are phoning us and laughing in our faces and calling us idiots because it's taking so long." Lesch denies that the committee system is delaying the application process and says delays "occur mostly when incomplete forms are submitted." "The backlog that existed previously has nearly been wiped out. There's always a number of applications waiting for approval." (I wonder how silly the South African Government will feel, after the same folks that delivered such a wonderful system in Canada, get the boot for the largest waste and Highest cost over-run in Canadian history.. It's coming.. Wait for it!) GUN REGISTRY FAILS TO TRACK 288,688 GUNS BROUGHT INTO CANADA BY TOURISTS “Customs never checked to see if the American hunters took their guns when they left Canada.” Ottawa – Today, Garry Breitkreuz, Official Opposition Critic for Firearms and Property Rights, released detailed reports from Canada Customs showing the gun registry has once again failed to do what the Liberals promised in 1995. Documents obtained from the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency (CCRA) show that law-abiding foreign hunters and sport shooters declared 288,688 firearms on their way into Canada between January 1, 2000, and March 31, 2003, and paid more than $11 million for the privilege. The documents also show no firearms being exported during the same period (see spreadsheet summary attached). The RCMP previously admitted that the guns declared by foreign visitors were not being recorded in the Canadian Firearms Registry as promised by Ministers in charge of the firearms program. Vancouver crime statistics paint frightening picture for city's future VANCOUVER (CP) - Vehicle theft and break-ins across British Columbia are rising and Vancouver is considered the bank robbery capital of Canada, suggest some alarming statistics presented Wednesday at a forum on crime solutions. ``We are seeing quite a significant increase in the takeover style of robberies, where robbers come into a bank, groups of them, armed and displaying weapons,'' he said. "In some cases they use battering rams to smash doors down open. They wave guns in the air and shoot into the ceiling and point guns at customers and employees." In November, the board said property crime in Vancouver costs $128 million a year, but police are only able to close 8.7 per cent of all reported theft files. The report's 14 recommendations include more police resources, a tougher justice system and better drug treatment for addicts. (Well "WAIT A MINUTE"!!!! The Liberal government (and Wendy) promised all Canadians that bill C68 would bring an end to crime such as this. Once all those duck hunters out there, had all their guns registered, or confiscated, gun crime would drop like a stone.. A "Culture of Safety" they called it. Sucking a billion dollars out of policing, health care, woman's abuse shelters, and the courts, has certainly made a huge difference in the safety of Canadians. Unfortunately the huge difference has been a upward spiral of violent crime in Canada. In the U.S. ,more progressive laws, such a the right of a citizen to carry a firearm for self defence, has resulted in a 'significant' drop in violent crime in those states that have adopted these laws. No amount of Liberal 'spin doctoring' can alter this glaring discrepancy. But, don't expect 'any' Canadian government to bring forth ideas such as this, because the last two generation of Canadians are 'born victims', in a Canadian "Culture of Defencelessness". And be assured, nothing is going to change 'that') Ontario to target gun crime The Ontario government will crack down on gun violence to try to counter the growing epidemic of gang-related shootings in the province, especially in Toronto, Attorney-General Michael Bryant said yesterday. "The rise in gun violence over the last two years in this province is unacceptable and shocking and it cries out for action," Mr. Bryant said in an interview. In co-operation with Toronto Police, the government will set up an elite task force of police officers and Crown attorneys. They will work together to obtain warrants to search out illegal guns and seek stiff sentences for those convicted of possessing the weapons.(All well and good, but what pray tell do they consider to be an "illegal gun"? Would it be a true illegal gun, i.e. stolen, smuggled, etc., or simply a shotgun in grandma's attic that was never registered because grandma didn't want a 'licence' and couldn't bear to have grandpa's family heirloom shotgun, confiscated and destroyed by a bunch gun hating of paranoids? With the Dalton McYuppy gang at the helm, anything could be possible. There are already federal safe storage laws that are quite adequate if followed. Of the two last large gun thefts in Toronto, one was from a 'steel safe' and the other was from a gun shop where an employee, unable to defend himself 'by law', was shot to death. How do you make safe storage any better for these people. McYuppy, if I remember right was also a 'big big fan' of centralized firearms storage, where I suppose, one truck crashing through a wall will give the thieves access to ALL the guns they want, hampered only by a 'unarmed' rent-a-cop.. There is simply no end the the silly ideas that are brought forth by ignorance within the liberal parties..The newspapers don't help, by calling it "Gun Crime" Guns do not commit crimes. 'Some' people USE guns in the commission of crimes, as well as some people use cars, truck, knives, and baseball bats. But I guess some things do not roll nicely off the tongue and sell papers so you never hear of car, truck, knife, or even bat crime !) Canadian police chiefs urge Ottawa to resist attacks on gun registry HALIFAX (CP) - The Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police wants the federal government to resist attacks on Canada's gun control system, which the chiefs call a vital tool in combating crime. In a release Wednesday, association president Edgar MacLeod called proposals to scrap the gun control regime ``wasteful and irresponsible'' and a serious threat to the public safety. ``We cannot combat the misuse of guns without strong controls,'' said MacLeod, chief of the Cape Breton Regional Police Service. ``We just recently had a case where an individual made threats to staff at children's aid. Because of the system, we knew he had firearms and were able to obtain a warrant to seize them.''(Thankfully, the 'Canadian Association of Police Chiefs' much like the 'Canadian Police Association' do not represent the views of their members. They are 'lobby' groups whose sole function is to get 'special interest' money from Ottawa. Neither group has 'ever' polled their members to see what direction they should take. So, in this case they only represent 'themselves'. Maybe they should go talk to Fantino in Toronto! He's a 'real' police chief. As for knowing if a person has firearms or not, makes little difference. Someone who makes threats to the children's aid should be investigated regardless, and spending a billion dollars on this farce only takes money away from the REAL problem which is 'Criminals' and 'their' Guns.) Who is Belinda Stronach? And what does she stand for AURORA, ON, Jan. 20 /CNW/ - Business leader Belinda Stronach today said that starting right now she is running to become new Leader of the new Conservative Party of Canada and Member of Parliament for the riding of Newmarket-Aurora. "I want principled government, based on a foundation of values," said Stronach, who was born and raised in Newmarket, Ontario and lives with her family in Aurora. "In public service, as in business and all other aspects of my life, my core values are honesty, compassion, fairness, respect and integrity." Stronach contrasted her background and approach to those of the old Liberal government that has held power for nearly 11 years. "I am not a professional politician. But I have met a payroll. I understand what it takes to compete on a global basis," she said. "And I understand how the federal Liberal government is failing Canadians." Believing that party policy must be formed from the grassroots up (not top-down by the leader), Stronach is launching an open and inclusive dialogue with Canadians about how to achieve our goals. Calling them "not the final word, but a starting point for discussion," Stronach said that her ideas for the future include the following:(She seems to be an intelligent, straight forward, young lady. But has no political experience what-so-ever. Maybe that's a good thing? Maybe it's not! But unfortunately, it's an experiment that most Canadians won't accept. She says she has excellent political advisors.. So What? Who will be calling the shots, her or her "advisors"? One of which is Brian Mulroney. I don't think Canadians are ready to accept a back door 'controller' in the form of Brian Mulroney! A leader that will base the majority of her decisions on advise from her "political advisors" may be nothing more that a puppet, with 'un-elected' puppet masters pulling most of the strings.. Maybe I'm 'way' wrong, but it's a possibility I'm 'way' right!.. She should spend the next 4 years as a MP, prove herself, 'then' take a stab at the top job.. I'm sure that if she had a prospective employee standing in front of her, with no experience what-so-ever, 'president' of the company might not be the job she has in mind for that person..Why? If she has to think about 'that' then she's not the person for 'this' job You can check her out at belinda.ca NOT belinda.com, which is a rather dysfunctional porn site!) RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS (Yup were talking about Canada here!) (Canoe Link, 'may' vanish with-in 24 hours or less) The Alberta government could take aim at the controversial federal gun registry from a new angle - on the basis of gun ownership being part of the province's heritage. A committee of three rural Tory MLAs - which was formed last December - will today hear a pitch from the Responsible Firearm Owners of Alberta to skirt the gun registry laws. Committee chairman Broyce Jacobs, MLA for Cardston-Taber-Warner, said the idea is "to enshrine the rights of Albertans to own guns forever under the heritage aspect ... especially farmers and ranchers and trappers and hunters and so on to bear arms. Snelgrove said Alberta does not want to be confrontational in its approach to Ottawa's new hierarchy. "Without getting ahead of the committee ... how do we allow the federal government to step away from it without wearing it because, I mean, you know, that the ego that goes with so many of us politicians, boy, it's pretty tough to admit we were ever wrong," Snelgrove said. "Everything is only there with political will. Ultimately, they (Ottawa) have to give up control or rescind what they've done." (If the 'not withstanding clause' can only be used to prevent the Feds from trampling on provincial law, it only makes sense to pass a 'provincial law' allowing the right to own firearms, 'then' invoke the not withstanding clause. This would work out west, but the Dalton McYuppy gang in Ontario still can't understand why a farmer or rancher would need a gun! After all, they 'do' have pest control companies that can 're-locate' troublesome animals. They just trap them, and let them go in the country! Oooo wait, that won't work, their already in the country..Hmmm.. perhaps we could just all learn to get along.. Coyotes are our friends, just don't let them buy anything from ACME, they could get hurt!!) Belinda lives and works in a world that daddy built Belinda Stronach hates being known as "daddy's little girl." I would, too, if I were her. But that's exactly what she is. Her job comes from daddy. Her money comes from daddy's company. Her house, which sits in the magnificent corporate compound north of Toronto that daddy built, is a stone's throw away from daddy's house. Her first husband was an executive in daddy's company, and her first taste of politics was when daddy ran (unsuccessfully) for office and she knocked on doors for him. Friends say her current interest in politics was inspired by Magna's essay-writing contest, which she administers. It awards scholarships to students who write the best essay on the topic, "If I were prime minister." Her dad started that too. Today, Ms. Stronach will announce that she wants to be prime minister. No knock on her. She is by all accounts a kind and decent person, but her candidacy is a potent symbol of the Conservative Party's utter desperation. What, then, are Ms. Stronach's accomplishments? Well, she dropped out of university after a year, held various ill-defined positions in the company, and started a designer-clothing business. She's been married and divorced twice, and is friends with a charismatic former U.S. president who is no doubt happy to give her political advice. She's established herself on the good-works circuit, and is seen at the most worthy fundraisers. She played a role as a political matchmaker that has, perhaps, been a touch exaggerated. She has hired Bonnie Brownlee, Mila Mulroney's former image consultant, to be her image consultant, and she has got Brian Mulroney to say awfully nice things about her.(All in all she may very well be a nice person, but 'Prime Minister, or even leader of the official opposition is a bit much.. Perhaps she could run as a local MP first! If she gets elected, 'then' she can prove her worth. But not yet.. To even contemplate this person, at this time, for either one of the jobs she's seeking is absolutely absurd. Perhaps Mr. Mulroney saying nice things about her, is just the 'kiss of death' her proposed political career might need to benefit us all!.. Of course, if you lie down with dogs you get fleas! If you lie down with Bill Clinton, you get 'gun control', or at the very least, a dry cleaning bill) Albertans take aim at gun registry (Canoe Link, 'may' vanish with-in 24 hours or less) The Committee on Strengthening Alberta's Role in Confederation heard what it expected to hear on the first of 12 stops on a provincewide tour. Speaker after speaker complained about the "useless" and "wasteful" national firearms registry which continues to draw vocal opposition from rural Albertans. "If Ontario wanted a gun registry, they could have paid for it themselves," complained Hinton resident Jack Wilson. "It shouldn't have been rammed down our throats." (That's just it, Ontario does not want a gun registry anymore than Albertans do! Ontario is 'still' on the books as not willing to prosecute. Dalton McYuppy has not opened his mouth about this, since being elected by the urbanites. The OPP, and the Ontario Association of Police Chiefs have already said it's a crock and unenforceable. Only the ignorant and the parasitic associations that receive under the table tax dollars have any support for this farce.) Not-so-mild West (Canoe Link, 'may' vanish with-in 24 hours or less) Kinder, gentler Canadian cowboys plying a mild, rather than wild West settled by their American counterparts, is a myth, says an Alberta historian. Gunplay and cattle rustling, not croquet and polo, were more the order of the day on the 19th century Canadian frontier, despite the image of British-flavoured reserve that still reigns, argues former rancher Dr. Warren Elofson. "We had a social environment that was every bit as raucous and disorderly as it was across the (border)." Stampede Week depictions of a wild six-shooter Canadian range are closer to the truth than many believe, said Elofson. "There was a period when there was a majority of young men carrying a gun ... right here in Calgary you could find gunfights," the Oxford-educated Elofson said. "You had newspaper reports saying there are too many young people shooting guns willy-nilly." (Why it would be simply un-Canadian to think that 'Canadian' cowboys ha ..Gasp... Guns!!! Why if that were the case, This, and the last generation of Canadians, now being raised as future crime 'victims', would have 'nothing' to base our culture of defencelessness on would we? And 'that' would mean our governments have been lying to us for years! Modern Canadians! Victims from birth in the ongoing fight for world-wide mediocracy) Swiss leads UN efforts against illegal arms trade A Swiss diplomat has been appointed to head a United Nations group working against the illegal trade in small arms and light weapons. The body’s main aim is to curb the spread of small arms, which are responsible for one death per minute worldwide. As president, his main task will be to help prepare a UN conference on small arms - due to be held in 2006 - which is aimed at bringing the issue to international attention. Thalmann will also preside over a UN action plan to make the small arms trade more transparent. As part of this work, the group will examine the feasibility of developing an international instrument to enable states to identify and trace illegal small and light arms. The weapons concerned include pistols, machine guns and rifles, as well as mortars and anti-aircraft missiles. But the main stumbling block facing Thalmann is likely to be the United States, the largest producer of small arms in the world, which has criticised the initiative. It has refused to sign the section concerning private gun ownership and ban the sale of guns to non-governmental foreign buyers. The Swiss also have a strong gun culture. The “Small Arms Survey” found there were 1.2 million guns in private hands in Switzerland. Around 500,000 men are required to keep guns at home as part of their responsibilities under the militia system. Recent calls for a central gun registration system – most notably by the former justice minister, Ruth Metzler, have encountered stiff opposition from the gun lobby.(Like most other countries, Switzerland probably never even had a "gun lobby" until these finger pointing gun grabbers started messing with their legally owned and obtained property. The Illegal gun trade is NOT what their main objective is. Their main objective is to disarm YOU! The reason of 'safety' is always what liars, such as the Canadian Liberals, keep spouting. When, in fact it's 'really' because 'some' of their somewhat less intelligent members, have signed poorly thought out agreements with other somewhat less intelligent members of the UN. 'UN'- intelligence, seems to be the keyword here! ) Machine gun Kiraly Can a suburban wimp achieve manhood through machine guns? Americans love guns--but mostly in the abstract. We thrill to slo-mo Matrix shootouts, we swooned over the heavy artillery that pried open Iraq like a can of fruit cocktail, and we wouldn't be caught dead without our trusty plasma rifle in a bloody match of Unreal Tournament. But when it comes to hefting the cold steel of a real gun, your would-be GI Jane can easily turn into Squeamish Sally. Yeah, that's me: the suburban wuss who'll happily mow down alien scum in Halo but would never--never!--consider squeezing off a few clips with a real killing machine. So, as a personal challenge of sorts, I ventured to American Shooters Supply and asked to blast one of their nastiest mofos--in this case, an HK UMP 45 machine gun. HK is the initials of some German guys; UMP is, presumably, the sound the butt of the gun will make--ump! ump! ump!--as it recoils against my underdeveloped, vaguely concave chest while I live out a Rambo fantasy. Forty-five is gun talk for "big-ass bullet." "All you have to do is hold the trigger down," Witham says, "and it'll just keep firing until the clip is empty." Ready. Aim. Fi--. Kuh!-kuh!-kuh!-kuh!-kuh!-kuh!-kuh!-kuh!-kuh!-kuh!-kuh!-kuh!-kuh! A stream of slugs pours from my barrel: Kuh Kuh! kuh! kuh! kuh! kuh! kuh! kuh! kuh! kuh! kuh! kuh! kuh! The pulse of my heart quickly falls into sync with the rattling pulse of the HK, and I experience that rare, bizarre simpatico that comes from achieving a certain magnetism with a machine. Kuh! kuh! kuh! kuh! kuh! kuh! kuh! kuh! kuh! kuh! kuh! kuh!kuh! The hominid outline of the paper target has what looks like a very painful case of totally machine gun-shredded thoracic cavity. "There you go," Witham says. "You wanna do it again?" I need a second to catch my breath. I'm trembling. God yes. (And 'another' is converted to the 'dark side'.. Fun Eh!) Shooting, Australian Style Suspicion is bound to arise; on the day of competition, this reporter feels such an air after walking unannounced into the clubhouse. The unease dissipates after introductions, with publicity officer Jean Wray and shoot marshal Tony Hopkins giving much insight into the sport and its people, but it is Mollica who discusses the issue of ostracism in a later interview. At the club on a Wednesday, the day the gun club is open for practice, Mollica says he hates the nonsense directed at him simply because he's a shooter. A farmer with a small beef cattle property at Coldstream, a trip into town before the opening of duck season in March seems to inspire shop assistants to have a dig at him. "I'm not ashamed to be a hunter," he says. "Whatever I hunt, I eat." He recalls a meeting in which Melbourne Gun Club members rejected a proposal to get club bumper stickers made. The stickers were rejected in part because club members didn't wanted thieves breaking into their cars to steal costly firearms, but mostly because the members didn't want to proclaim their affinity for guns to the world. By contrast, Mollica recalls a trip to New Brunswick, in Canada, to go hunting with a friend. He was amazed to see shooters walking down the main street of town with guns cocked over their shoulders. "If we did that in Victoria, we'd be put in jail."(In many 'rural' areas, that's still the case. But try that where a a bunch of re-located city people live, and you'll be facing the swat team. I have seen the local police in Barrie Ontario, close down roads, and surround a section of the Simcoe County Forest, because some yuppie heard a gunshot coming from the bush. Well duh!!! The poor fellow was only shooting some clays in an area where he felt it would be safe and of no bother to anyone. He was taken into custody, but later released with no charges. Sometimes I think, that because the police are given a whole load of swat team equipment, they look for any excuse to try it out! The old 'use it or lose it' approach. A few years ago, 'before the yuppie influx' they would have simply surmised that it might be hunters, and sent a officer or two to check it out. Not any more! It's really sad, when police surround a forest, during hunting season, because some yuppie nitwit heard a gunshot. It's even sadder when the police over react and 'detain' the hunter! ) Liberal MP calls for changes to gun registry Huron-Bruce MP Paul Steckle continues to call for major changes to Canada’s gun registry. “We know there’s thing that can be done and we’re recommending these things,” Steckle said. “How much of it will be done I’m not sure but I’ve said from the beginning if we’re just going to tinker with this then basically we’re going nowhere with it. That is not satisfactory. “There is only one thing that’s going to satisfy the sportsmen of this country and the firearms owners and the only thing that’s going to encourage those who are now living outside of the law is if we bring in a mechanism that completely abolishes the long gun registry.” Steckle applauded Martin’s announcement that Albina Guarnieri, the minister of state for civil preparedness, would review Canada’s gun registry. Steckle said he’s already been in contact with Guarnieri in hopes of reaching an ideal solution. “I’m recommending that we just squash the whole issue of long gun registration because it doesn’t work,” Steckle said. “It’s ineffective and it doesn’t save any lives.(This just shows, that 'all' Liberal MP's are not idiots! Some 'have' recognized, as far as the registry is concerned, the light at the end of the tunnel is really a freight train loaded with real facts, and indisputable truths. Something that shows the Liberal bullshit and propaganda, currently used to make them look 'less stupid', won't stand up to any real examination. Hence the reason they won't prosecute 'anyone' under the firearms act. If the act won't withstand a Supreme Court challenge then it should be scrapped in it's entirety. ) A 'useful' Registry would raise awareness of breast implant patients Mention a national registry and expect a storm of protest from Canadian taxpayers burdened by the federal Liberals' billion-dollar, flawed and inefficient gun registry. But as the United Kingdom, Denmark and Germany have shown, some registries are worthwhile. A breast-implant roster is one -- it is the quickest, most reliable way of informing women of impending medical concerns or immediate recalls. It also paves the way for implant patients to access advice, information and the latest medical discoveries.(There are so many other 'worthwhile' registries! Why on earth did the Liberals waste a Billion Dollars to register farmers shotguns! If political ignorance was music, Ottawa would have the best symphony in North America, but would 'still' be a 'Silly Symphony') Canada's Gun Registry: Should It Be Scrapped? Or Can It Be Fixed? Speaker(s): Gary Mauser Professor, Simon Fraser University Event Brochure: Mauser Vancouver Flyer.pdf Event Outline: Canada’s universal gun registry has been plagued by a variety of problems including billion dollar cost overruns, the use of shady “back door” financing to hide costs, administrative debacles, and the refusal of 8 of the 10 provinces to comply with the new law. Most importantly, in the final analysis, the firearm registry has failed to save lives. With Ottawa poised to review the program for a fourth time, it’s time to acknowledge how much gun registry has cost and examine how those funds might be better spent on other crime-fighting budgets? Event Details: Registration & Casual Buffet Lunch: 12:00 pm Presentation: 12:15 pm Adjournment: 1:30 pm (Wish I could attend, but it's 3000 miles away!) BREITKREUZ UNCOVERS MORE UNDISCLOSED GUN REGISTRY COSTS “How long will the Liberals be allowed to cover-up the full cost of this billion-dollar boondoggle?” Ottawa – Today, Garry Breitkreuz, Official Opposition Critic for Firearms and Property Rights, released preliminary results of his ongoing attempts to document all the tax dollars blown on the billion-dollar gun registry. “The Justice Minister’s Performance Report on the Firearms Program did not include a full accounting of all the ‘direct and indirect costs’ incurred by all federal departments,” revealed Breitkreuz. “For the last year, Parliament was promised again and again that we would have a complete and accurate financial statement of all the gun registry costs. Now we have proof that the Liberal government broke their promises yet again on the fatally-flawed firearms file.”(If the liberals don't start coming clean on this mess, it will only drag them even further down at the next election. Right now, the media is focussed on this farce and the horrendous waste of taxpayers money. Only the totally uniformed, the politically embarrassed, and the parasites that feed off the funding 'grants' this farce provides, think it's worth saving. The multitude of recent straw polls proves the average taxpayer certainly doesn't! ) Now, really: What's a little handgun between friends? Guns are such a bitch — can't even give them away, sometimes. That's the problem Thanos Polyzos allegedly encountered when he tried to press a .45-calibre Tac-Four semi-automatic on Norm Gardner, then the chair of the Toronto Police Services Board. Just a little prezzie — no strings attached, no favours expected — from one firearms fancier to another; Polyzos the professional manufacturer, Gardner the lay enthusiast."It's not often you can offer one of your products to a friend,'' the Athens-born Polyzos pointed out yesterday, during testimony at a public inquiry convened by the Ontario Civilian Commission on Police Services. "It's not like I have many friends in Canada who are in a position to accept a firearm if I wanted to give one.''(A 'snotty' little epistle written by a Toronto Star 'Gun-O-Phobe'. If Mr Polyzos was a taylor, and gave Gardner a $700.00 suit, this would not even have made a ripple. The Star of course, thinks anyone(except the police and solders) who own guns, must be mentally defective. Para, being the only handgun manufacturer in Canada is bound to be on the Stars 'hit list'. I own a Para (1640 LDA/limited) for two reasons. 1:because it's a damn good gun, and 2: because it's Canadian made. If you can't support the 'only' Canadian handgun manufacture, when in the market for a fine firearm, it would only be because they are not cheap. Quality costs.. The Toronto Star, along with the current federal government, are very much like the K.F.C. Liberal Bucket! Chock full of Left Wings, and Assholes!) Paul Martin's Dilemma on the West. Now, don't be assuming that my anger is directed at Eastern Canadians, like some have in the past. My anger is directed squarely at the Federal Liberal government :) In the Toronto Star today, is a really good summation on one of the major items on why the West feels it has been alienated by the Liberals. From the article "and perhaps pare down the types of guns that must be recorded, dropping firearms such as hunting rifles." So, if they drop the requirement for hunting rifles and shotguns, that leaves target rifles and handguns (Chemical propellant - gunpowder and presumably gas powered BB and pellet guns - not counting soldering guns and glue guns that people have already registered). Handguns always had to be registered under the old system, and we all know so many murders are commited each year with target rifles, not with handguns smuggled in from the states.(The Liberals have already 'tinkered' this law into a HUGE white elephant covered with patches, plugs, white-out, and for all we know 'zippers' so they can stuff more crap in as the elephant needs 'adjusting'. This farce reminds me of the old adage, A Camel, is nothing but a horse, designed by a committee. The only difference of course, is that a 'camel' is useful) The gun registry: A billion dollar bag of perfect uselessness(Rex Murphy) I know it will stagger everyone to hear this, but it doesn't quite work like that. Whether it's a rash of gun killings or just a single gun murder, our platinum priced gun registry with its billion-dollar cost overrun is not just ordinarily useless in cases of this kind, it is perfectly useless. It is useless without qualification. It does nothing. This may surprise a few anti-gun philosophers, but the knowledge that a farmer has a 12-gauge in Saskatchewan or a hunter has a .30-30 in Newfoundland is infinitely irrelevant. It is sublimely without purpose or point for a gang shooting in downtown Toronto or the butchery of a good Samaritan in the Gastown of Vancouver. You know why, of course. The very people who shoot other people as a hobby, a pastime, or a career are, wait for it, the very people who don't give a flying fig about registering their wretched handguns in the first place. People who shoot people do not join line-ups to tell police where they stole, smuggled, or bought their guns in the first place. So now Paul Martin, staring down a billion dollars worth of ludicrously expensive wishful thinking, is about to look into the gun registry. If he doesn't scrap it all together, admit it was nothing more than wasteful piety from its very conception, and close it down, we will know he's only playing with the issue. It is a waste, he knows it's a waste, and a politically correct waste to boot. It's a billion dollar bag of perfect uselessness. Let's see him act on that knowledge. (Again Rex Murphy bucks the trend at the CBC, and speaks out against the registry. Others have had their jobs threatened if they were to do the same. Again, as usual, Mr Murphy hits the nail right on the head. Virtually ALL of the media, with the exception of the Trudeau.. er.. Toronto Star, have called for the cancellation of this farce. 'THE PUBLIC HAS SPOKEN' But Martin, being a true liberal, could not give a rats ass what the public wants, and besides, it would be far too embarrassing to admit they simply wasted a billion dollars. So what do they intend to do? Why, they intend to waste ANOTHER billion dollars slapping patches all over this white elephant that's what!) Gun registry key to western alienation Prime Minister Paul Martin is caught in the crossfire over Canada's firearms registry. It's clear he'll not find political safety for long by ducking behind vague promises of a review. On one side is a majority of western Canadians who are steadfastly opposed to the registry. They see it as a symbol of how western opinions are ignored by Ottawa, as a colossal waste of taxpayers' money and as an assault on their individual rights. On the other side is a Canadian public acutely aware of violent crime and firearm safety, demanding some sort of gun control to make them feel more secure. Support for the registry is strongest in Ontario and Quebec, traditional Liberal strongholds. With an election looming and the cost of the registry expected to surpass $1 billion this year, Martin can't afford to dither. The cost is a far cry from the number tossed about when the registry was announced in 1995. Spiralling costs have played into the hands of gun enthusiasts. They have been able to shift the focus of the debate away from the merits of registering rifles and shotguns, and make the matter a question of government waste.(That's all gun registration does, is make them 'feel' more secure, while in fact doing 'nothing' to actually 'make' them more secure. As for the 'merits' of registering rifles and shotguns, there are none! There has never been a firearms registration scheme anywhere, that has made anybody any safer. Registration of inanimate objects is used for only two reasons. To tax them, or to take them, and neither make anyone safer. If safety is the real reason, start registering blunt objects, knives, swimming pools, parents that own 5 gallon buckets, and Rope! Once their all registered, and people are still dying from accidents, crime, and suicides, 'then' will the light finally come on in thier dim little minds? It's PEOPLE, not OBJECTS that are the problem!) Poll gives PM little reason to cheer Previously, Martin looked completely wishy-washy on the issue of the gun registry, the billion-dollar fiasco that came in 500,000 times over its $2 million budget, and which most provinces refuse to enforce. No worries, the government is still committed to gun control. "Let me be clear," Martin said, "we are committed to gun control and we are committed to the registration of weapons, but I think we should, at the same time, you know, common sense simply dictates that there have been a number of problems that have got to be looked at and dealt with." When Martin says, "let me be clear," it means the opposite. It means he's coming down on both sides of an issue. (Not only do most provinces refuse to enforce it, THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT REFUSES TO ENFORCE IT... As hard as many people have tried, No One has ever been charged under the Firearms act. All charges to date, have been laid under the criminal code. This government has wasted a billion dollars on a law it won't enforce because it knows the law will NEVER pass a constitutional challenge. Mr. Martin, Either put the law to the test, or repeal it. ) Boondoggles politically motivated (Is there any other kind?) Reg Alcock, the man who ran George Radwanski out of town, seems to fancy himself the sheriff of Ottawa. As the new Treasury Board president, he promises to bring order to the federal public service. Extravagant spending and poor bookkeeping will be punished. He's capping the size of the bureaucracy and freezing capital projects and job reclassifications (the latter often misused by bureaucrats as a way to raise salaries). The public service needs discipline and accountability. After all, Canadians rightly object when huge sums disappear into black holes, be they dubious native drug-treatment centres or suspect sponsorship programs. But Alcock is misguided if he thinks every boondoggle is the fault of rogue bureaucrats. If the public service spends money unwisely, often it results from political pressure. Take the gun registry. For Jean Chretien, the registry was ideological. What poor bureaucrat was going to tell him it was a terrible idea? And even if 100 bureaucrats had done so, would it have made a difference? One hopes Alcock was not so jaded by the Radwanski experience that he now thinks all senior managers can't be trusted. By all means, create more oversight, but don't talk to bureaucrats as though they were children in need of a grounding.(Martin and his lackeys are simply swinging a bunch of smoke and mirrors. He has no intention of dumping the registry, unless he is politically forced to. If, after all the flack he is taking from virtually every media source about the waste of this farce, he does not scrap it, then he is no different from the ratty little dictator we just got rid of!) New PM Paul Martin faces challenge in meeting backbench demands for change OTTAWA (CP) - For Liberal MP John McKay, backbench democracy means being able to vote his conscience on same-sex marriage without giving a "rat's ass" what the government thinks. For colleague Roger Gallaway it means restoring the "fundamental right" of the House of Commons to curb waste and overspending on things like the federal gun registry. For John Harvard it's putting "a little fear" into cabinet members when they appear before a parliamentary committee, while for Nick Discepola it's voting down bad legislation and sending ministers back to the drawing board. The one thing they have in common is that their hopes for a louder voice and greater influence in Ottawa were sparked by the ascension of Paul Martin to the post of prime minister. And the biggest problem facing Martin is how to deliver on his promise to reform the way Parliament works without sabotaging his ability to get the bills he wants through the legislative mill and into law. (A 'free Vote' should be 'just that' a FREE VOTE. No coercion from the prime minister, no threats to toe the party line. No mini dictatorship as we have just had with Mao Chretien. If this is not going to be the case, then we have exactly the same government we had before, and is still under the impression that Canadians should be 'subjects' and not citizens) Original owner of U-S mad cow case speaks out The owner of the farm where the American case of mad cow has been traced back to says it must have eaten contaminated feed. Wayne Forsberg owns the farm near Edmonton where a Holstein detected with mad cow disease in the U-S was born. But even though he suspects the feed, he maintains that he didn't nothing illegal in the feeding of his animals. He also says there is no reason why the federal government shouldn't test every slaughtered cow for B-S-E. (What I find to be a bit curious, is that according to the google listing for this article, this part has been edited out : "He says if Ottawa can spent one (b) billion dollars on a gun registry, it can afford (m) millions to protect the food supply. " It would seem as if CTV is a bit chicken in the cow reporting!) The Original Google listing is below :Original owner of US mad cow case speaks out CFCN, Canada - 20 hours ago ... BSE. He says if Ottawa can spent one (b) billion dollars on a gun registry, it can afford (m) millions to protect the food supply. But, CBC Saskatchewan did report the comparison to the waste of the registry "Our gun control laws, there's a billion dollars spent there, and they're talking $60 million for the province of Alberta (to test cows)," said Wayne Forsberg at a news conference he gave with his wife Shirley. "Well, that's a pretty small price in comparison." Gun registry not expected to get nixed Prime Minister Paul Martin indicated Wednesday that he will overhaul the federal gun registry, although he said he still backs the former Liberal government's gun registry legislation. Mr. Martin is facing a tight upcoming federal budget, with a projected surplus of only $2.3-billion, $2-billion of which is earmarked for health care. This week, during meetings in Ottawa, he is asking caucus members to find ways to trim spending from various government departments. Some MPs are looking at the ballooning gun registry as a way of cutting costs. The registry had an original price tag of $2-million when it was introduced in 1995 but is now predicted to cost at least $1-billion. Sources told The Globe and Mail this week that the Martin government is conducting a review of the registry and is looking at ways of streamlining it. They said it will likely be significantly altered — a move that is likely to appeal to opponents of the program from Western Canada.(The Registry is not 'predicted' to cost a Billion Dollars, it WILL pass the Billion dollar mark this year, and two or three Billion over the next bunch of years. This single program is the LARGEST boondoggle ever created by any government this country has ever had. It serves NO useful purpose, and the ONLY thing that will appease any opponents no matter where their from, is to SCRAP IT. Any 'thinking' urban Canadian would rather see the 'next' billion dollars redirected to heath care or policing. Unless of course they are profiting from this farce as the Liberal funded 'Coalition for Gun Control' does.. ) Also See: Gun registry under fire from prime minister & Feds take aim at gun registry change OTTAWA -- Prime Minister Paul Martin says the controversial $1-billion gun registry is here to stay, but wants it revamped to make it more cost-effective. Martin, the man who wrote the cheques for the registry as finance minister, now says the chronic cost-overruns are "unacceptable." A review of the program that was only supposed to cost $2 million is now underway, but the Opposition predicts it won't be completed by the anticipated spring election call. "We are committed to gun control and we are committed to the registration of weapons," Martin said.(If this is not GONE by the spring election call, it will DEFINITELY be a election issue. Its a foregone conclusion that a LOT of liberal seats will fall, particularly Annie 'got yer gun' McLellan's. No more vote splitting will result in a LOT less power for Martins government. No one in the history of this farce has ever been able to reduce the waste, and the man that signed all the original cheques will not have any more success than anyone else has.. Without dumping the registration, and revamping the firearms act so that is targets the 'correct' people and not just 'guns' in general) Why more senior citizens are carrying guns They're protecting themselves from what they see as a rise in violence, even if crime statistics say otherwise. TUCSON, ARIZ. – A pistol's sharp report pierces the morning calm, as Charles Van Vibber lowers his Glock automatic. He scans a bullet-stopping berm among dusty cactuses at the Desert Trails Gun Club, as a breeze ruffles his white hair. "You need to be able to protect yourself, because the police are not always able to protect you at any moment," he says. Mr. Van Vibber, a retired auto-parts worker, and other older Americans account for more than a third of the 700 members regularly honing their marksmanship at this no-nonsense range on Tucson's fringes. Some practice simply for pleasure. But a growing number, including Van Vibber, are serious about protecting themselves, says Desert Trails owner Richard Batory - who cites a "nearly 100 percent jump in the last year of my older members who carry concealed weapons."(Of course in Canada, seniors are still fodder for junkies looking for 'fix' money. In Newmarket Ontario over the weekend, a senior caught a burglar entering his home, and got bit while holding the punk, while his wife beat him with a kettle! The punk ran out the door, and was caught on the street by the police after the homeowners called 911.. If this punk had been armed, one or both of these brave people might not be here anymore. See the story below): Elderly couple turf burglar Intruder beaten with tea kettle Just call them Ma and Pa Kettle. A Newmarket couple fought off a would-be burglar early yesterday, using a tea kettle for emphasis. Clifford, 66, and his wife Gladys, 59, who did not want their last names used, assumed the noise coming from the kitchen of their Queen Street home was just the bitter January wind. But when he got out of bed at about 12:30 a.m. to check, Clifford found himself face-to-face with a masked intruder rifling through his wallet after he slipped into the house through a small main floor window. "I grabbed him and pushed him down the stairs," Clifford said during an impromptu media conference at their home where they've lived the past 25 years. Despite his five-feet, five-inch, 130-pound frame, Clifford chased after the intruder, described by police as a 28-year-old five-foot, eight-inch man. At the bottom of the basement stairs, Clifford ripped off the intruder's balaclava and the fight was on. "He told me, 'Quit hitting me, I'm on drugs'. I told him, 'I'm not finished with you yet'," Clifford said, as tears welled up in his eyes while sitting next to his wife on the couch in their family room. While police do not recommend confronting a burglar, Const. Steve Morrell said the couple is to be commended for their actions. "These people were tremendously courageous," Const. Morrell said. "In these situations, you should back away, don't confront the suspect and call us." Const. Morrell said police were checking the accused's medical records to provide Clifford with "peace of mind" after he was bitten.(If you can fight back, then FIGHT BACK. If more people refused to accept the "Culture of Defencelessness", more punks would think twice before attacking you. Canadians are now 'trained' from birth to be victims. Only the older ones seem to have guts enough to fight back! Remember, Dialling 911 only takes a few seconds, waiting for help 'may' take the rest of your life! See the next Story) Go ahead, burglar, make my day Well, it's true I subscribe to a gung-ho mentality, but I don't live in a culture of fear. In fact, British friends visiting me in this corner of northern New England from their crime-ridden leafy shires always remark on my blithe unconcern about "home security". I don't have laser alarms, or window locks, or, indeed, a front-door key. Like most of my neighbours, I leave my home unlocked and, when I park the car, I leave the key in the ignition because then you always know where to find it. I'm able to do this because - and this is where the gung-ho bit comes in - I live in a state with very high rates of gun ownership. In other words, if you're some teen punk and you want to steal my $70 television set, they're likely to be picking bits of your skull out of my wainscoting. But the beauty of this system is that I'm highly unlikely ever to have to blow your head off. The fact that most homeowners are believed to be armed reduces crime, in my neighbourhood, to statistically insignificant levels. Hence, my laconic approach to home security.(Instead of 'neighbourhood watch' signs at the end of your street, a better idea for most unarmed Canadians would be a sign that says "8 out of the 12 homes on this street contain home owners with shotguns, you guess which ones!" Neighbourhood Burglaries would drop drastically. I have a little sign in the top left hand corner of the door to my business, which is also right beside my house. It says: " My home and business are protected by the fine products of Smith & Wesson, there is NOTHING on this property worth your life" The sign is in a position, where it would only be noticed by someone scanning the parameter of my door, perhaps looking for alarm sensors. And you know what? I think it works!) Martin targets gun registry -1 ANALYSIS: Why don't the Liberals just kill it off? It's politics, writes JOHN IBBITSON OTTAWA -- How do you get rid of the gun registry without getting rid of the gun registry? Some time this year, the most mismanaged government program in Canadian history (try to think of something else that cost 500 times the original estimate) is expected to pass the $1-billion mark in spending, a year ahead of the Auditor-General's gloomy estimate. Public Safety Minister Anne McLellan has asked Albina Guarnieri, a minister of state, to review the registry; there is word that Ms. Guarnieri favours making major, though unspecified, changes to the program. Cynics will suggest this latest review is nothing but a political decoy to shore up support for the Liberals in the West, where the registry is particularly unpopular. Those cynics would be right. But the truth is, the Paul Martin government absolutely must dismantle the registry, and yet there is absolutely no way it can, and in both cases the reasons are political. What on Earth would be the point of a search for government waste that failed to target a boondoggle costing more than $100-million a year and achieving nothing? If the registry does not go, then the program review is a farce. Given the situation, and given the deep unpopularity of the registry in the West and in rural Canada generally, the simple solution would be to close the registry down. And that solution would be politically tempting.(There is 'still' the false notion that 'urban' Canada supports this farce. It does not. It does not support wasting another billion dollars that would be better spent on health care and policing, than on a political dung heap, simply to save the bungling Liberals the embarrassment they so richly deserve. Combine this with the ABSOLUTE FACT that the MAJORITY of legally obtained firearms are not now, and never will be registered, and the ABSOLUTE FACT that the guns that are being registered, ARE NOT the guns that are causing the problems in the urban areas. This whole thing is simply a HUGE political waste and should be DUMPED NOW!!!!) Martin targets gun registry 2 A major overhaul is likely as Ottawa begins review, sources tell JANE TABER OTTAWA -- Former prime minister Jean Chrétiien's $1-billion gun registry is under review by the new Paul Martin government and likely will be significantly altered in a move that would appeal to Western Canada. A senior government official said yesterday the gun-registry legislation is not "a meaningful law." Most provinces and territories, including Alberta and British Columbia, have refused to comply with the legislation, which came into force last year. Only one person has been convicted under the new law of failing to register a gun; there are estimates that more than one million guns are not registered. However, the official said yesterday the review is not expected to recommend killing the registry. "The question is, is it going to metamorphose into something else. . . . If we're going to spend this money, maybe there is a better way of spending it or siphoning some off to areas which need it."(If they can "syphon" off money for other areas, WHY is there extra money in the first place? There is no way any acceptable solution can be obtained without scrapping the firearms act as it exists now. It's so horribly flawed, there is no hope for it. The useless registration of any firearms by hunters, farmers, and target shooters will never affect the criminal use of firearms, only enforcing the law AGAINST the criminal use of firearms will work. The federal governments control over firearms, should be no more control than it has over ANY other item used in the commission of a crime. Cars 'criminally' kill far more people than any other item, yet I see no attempt by the feds to take over licensing and the registration of cars? WHY? Because PROPERTY is a PROVINCIAL jurisdiction until it's used in the commission of a indictable offence. The feds should dump this farce, because the Supreme Court Decision that said the feds should control guns simply because they can be dangerous, makes no sense at all!) Guns: our biggest security threat As usual, the 'Star' has it's head stuck firmly up it's ass It is wrong to say that Canada's 14-year-old gun control law isn't working. It has reduced homicides with legally owned rifles and shotguns significantly. (The reductions in crimes committed with long guns happened 'before' the registry came into effect, and as such, had no part in the reduction) The reason it has failed to make Toronto's streets safer is that most criminals use illicit firearms. These handguns are either smuggled into the country or stolen. As for Fantino's contention that the justice system is too lenient, it is unproven at best. He has no way of knowing whether tougher laws would stop street gangs from using illegal guns to settle scores. The evidence suggests otherwise. If harsh punishment were an effective deterrent, the U.S. would not have one of the highest homicide rates in the developed world. (Perhaps the 'Star' could explain why the VAST MAJORITY of crimes committed in the U.S. (and Canada for that mater) are RE-OFFENDERS? When a criminal is spending ten years in prison, that's ten years he or she is not on the street killing even more people. And, when you hang them, gas them, or even shoot them, society is free of them forever!) Lies About Guns Do you know how many times Americans have used firearms to thwart crimes and defend themselves over the past year? Take a look at this number and see if it means anything to you, 2,452,643. Does it ring a bell? No? Well if you are thinking these numbers represent a lotto winner’s purse or the number of times Democratic candidates have attacked President Bush in the last month you are mistaken. No instead this very large number represents the number of times Americans have used firearms to thwart crimes and defend themselves over the past year. According to the National Self-Defense Survey created by Florida State University criminologists in 1994, the rate of defensive gun uses can be projected to approximately 2.5 million per year, or one defensive use for every 13 seconds. Do those numbers come as a surprise? Certainly they would to those who buy into the myths put forward by the gun control advocates in our nation. Of course possibly the most maligned laws by gun control advocates are concealed carry laws. In every state which allows citizens to carry weapons, violent crime has dropped, yet the cries of gun grabbers to do away with these laws for safety’s sake continue. The Self-Defense Survey proves most damning to the cries against these laws. Nearly 80% of the defensive gun uses were by citizens with concealed weapons. Further a quarter of the uses occurred away from the defenders home. Where would these innocent citizens have been without these laws? Maybe those who want us not to own guns really do care and really think they have our best interests at heart. But there are 2,452,643 Americans who will surely disagree.(Media bias against firearms in Canada, NEVER report the defensive use of a firearm. Canadians report using a firearm to defend themselves or their families over 60,000 times per year between 1985 and 1990(.pdf file) And, please note, that this WAS between 1985 and 1990. Criminals seemed to have multiplied greatly in the last 14 years, so the defensive uses probably far exceed that now. The 'reason' you don't hear of these uses is twofold #1. the media simply won't report them because the majority of uses do not result in 'anyone' being shot, so the media guideline of "If it bleeds it leads" will not apply. The second reason is 'some' Canadians think that self defence is illegal, and if you shoot someone threatening you with a knife, you will go to jail, or if you use the old shotgun to scare them off, and it not registered as most are not, the police will arrest you. So it's better just to shut up about the gun and and just report that the criminal ran away. What has more effect on a criminal breaking into your house, the alarm, or this sound ? And don't rely on those 'Live operator" type alarms, they just give the criminal 15 minutes to talk to someone, while the "Live Operator" waits 20 minutes for the police to arrive!) Al Qaeda’s Grim Cat’s Cradle – Just the Beginning The “Israeli networks”, commanded by the Jordanian bio-chemical warfare specialist, Abu Musab Zarqawi, has not yet been fully activated in its allotted territory of Israel and western Europe. There is every indication they have been picked to lead the next wave of al Qaeda violence. This group of cells is part of the replacement system outlined in a blueprint discovered with the documents found in northern Iraq that provides for the contingency of the Islamic network losing its Afghan bases. The system works like a tree: Branches seeded in the Middle East and Europe will eventually plant cells in the United States and Canada. This process has already begun. Some members of the Saudi cells which carried out the bombings in Riyadh were of Algerian descent and carried Canadian passports. The Canadian cells are intended to spearhead a fresh wave of terrorist activity in the United States, a repeat of the failed attempt to bring off the Millennium attacks in December 1999.(Ahh yes, but if they don't have a 'Maple Leaf Card' how are they going to get into the country eh? What you mean their already here? How can that be, when the 'government' says they have everything in control and theres 'only' 30,000 + 'refugees' that have vanished into the woodwork right after being released and told to wait for their deportation papers. You mean these people can't be trusted to leave when asked? Why that's despicable, and soooo Un Canadian.. We'll just have to stop sending their welfare payments to their 'sponsors' and make them show up for the cheques in person.. If we ever find them!) Drugs, guns smuggled into Canada by mail (Canoe Link, 'may' vanish with-in 24 hours) OTTAWA -- Fraudsters are using the mail to smuggle guns and drugs into Canada from the U.S. and around the world, documents obtained by Sun Media Newspapers show. Canada Customs and Revenue Agency (CCRA) seizure reports from its five mail inspection centres across Canada show between January 2001 and October 2003 guns, tear gas and thousands of grams of drugs -- including cocaine and heroin -- were mailed into the country. The documents obtained under Access to Information show the CCRA's mail operations in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver had the highest number of seizures, compared to the customs mail offices in Calgary and Winnipeg. During that two-year period, Toronto Customs officers made 56 seizures of cocaine netting 9,900 grams with a listed worth of $1.2 million. Other seizures at the Toronto mail office included a handgun, 29 stun guns, and 19 canisters of tear gas that were mailed to addresses in Ontario. The reports don't list where the packages originate from, but Customs sources familiar with the mail operation said large quantities of seizures come from the U.S., Asia and Mexico. If a package is under 20 grams, Customs officials are prohibited by law from opening it.(For now anyway! What's the bet that before we get rid of the Liberals in Ottawa, they float a bill 'for security reasons mind you' to allow the opening of letter mail for 'inspection', and allow the same 'inspection' for mail sent to addresses 'with-in' Canada! With this government, you 'have' to expect it. You don't have to accept it, but shut up and do as your told!) Gun Control Hasn't Helped Chicago, Group Says Second Amendment supporters say strict gun control has made Chicago the most murderous city in the nation for the year just ended."Chicago finished off the year with more murders than New York or Los Angeles," said Second Amendment Foundation founder Alan Gottlieb. "During the past 12 months, 599 people were murdered in Chicago, three more than in New York, where 596 people were slain, and about 100 more than in Los Angeles." Gottlieb called it "remarkable" that Chicago, New York and Los Angeles have some of the nation's strictest gun laws, but even so, they still lead the nation when it comes to the number of homicides. Gottlieb, in a press release, noted that Chicago Mayor Richard Daley has made his "anti-gun philosophy" a cornerstone of his administration, to the detriment of the city. He compared the situation in Chicago to that in Detroit, where the once-high murder rate has dropped to its lowest level in years. "Two years ago," Gottlieb noted, "Michigan reformed its concealed carry law, and today, thousands of law-abiding citizens in Michigan are legally armed. Gosh, do you suppose there is any correlation?"(Of course not! Everyone 'knows' that 'guns' are responsible for crime, 'not' people! Just lock up your guns, and not your criminals, and all will be fine.. Ooops sorry, I slipped into a trance here and must have been 'channelling' an unarmed, dead liberal.. Why won't people sneak up and kick a sleeping dog? Must be for the same reason a rapist will not attack a woman with a pistol with in easy reach. Disarm everybody, and now all you have are potential victims, and THAT'S exactly what the thugs and rapists want isn't it?) BREITKREUZ SENDS OPEN LETTER TO PAUL MARTIN “Here are 12 good reasons why the whole Firearms Act has to go – not just the gun registry.” Breitkreuz’s
letter provides supporting documentation for twelve reasons why the entire Firearms
Act has to be scrapped: (1) The Firearms Act violates the Charter of Rights and Freedoms in a
dozen ways; (2) Government’s Performance Report contains at least 12 inaccurate
statements; (3)
Cost-benefit analysis of the firearms program remains a Cabinet secret; (4)
Entire 115-page report on economic impact remains a Cabinet secret; (5) Justice Dept. evaluation identified 90 problems with the firearms
program; (6) Privacy Commissioner reports firearms program violates citizens privacy
rights; (7) RCMP’s Firearms Interest Police database collects information on
witnesses and victims; (8) Government refuses to report “major additional costs” requested by
the Auditor General; (9) Statistics Canada’s annual homicide report proves the firearms program
is off-target; (10) Government ignored the recommendations from the Minister’s User Group
on Firearms; (11) Government refuses to pay compensation for the value of the registered
guns they ban; and
(12) Non-compliance with the licensing phase of the program, especially by
Aboriginal people.
Reviewing
the registry(Not
to mention they vastly under estimated number of legally obtained
firearms and owners, simply to make their ridiculous compliance numbers
look better. Since when does 2 million licensed owners equate to 90
percent of the 7 million that are actually out there, or 6+ million
firearms 85% of the 20,000,000 firearms in closets, gun racks,
basement, and attics of Canadians all across this country. Martin and
his Socialists are simply whistling in the graveyard if they actually
think Canadians believe their deflated crap! If this continues,
Canadian taxpayers will be paying ANOTHER billion to protect the
liberals from embarrassment they so richly deserve)
It has the makings of a joke: How many consultants does it take to fix a flawed gun registry? This past week, Public Safety Minister Anne McLellan announced another review 0f the Liberals' billion-dollar boondoggle gun registry. Ah yes, another year and another investigation into the registry. Last January, Martin Cauchon, the minister then responsible for the registry (it will cost taxpayers 500 times more than originally estimated) announced a $92,000 review. That was in addition to a $60,000 KPMG study already underway. This, on top of the auditor general's December 2002 report that confirmed the registry's boondoggle status and that provided recommendations. In February 2003, Cauchon tabled both consultants' reports with the aim of "improving" the gun registry. "These two reports will be useful in helping us achieve these objectives" said Cauchon at the time. Now, another minister wants another review. (See WhiteWash 2004 below. As it stands now, MORE money has been spent in reviewing this farce, than it was actually supposed to 'cost' in the first place! Come-on Martin! Call the Damn Election NOW!) Daughter of TV's 'Smoking Man' killed trying to break up fight
When 23-year-old Rachel Davis died in a hail of bullets in Gastown early Saturday, she was just trying to help break up a fight, say her friends. But her friends and parents, who described her as a peacemaker who would often intervene in disputes, made it clear Sunday they're not interested in vengeance and they don't believe the fight was racially motivated. "[Rachel] was just trying to help someone she didn't even know, but the situation couldn't have gone any more wrong," said Steve Denham, a close friend to both Rachel and her boyfriend, who was also shot but has been released from hospital. (Unfortunately, 'again' the only one armed was the criminal! Canada, a "Culture of Defencelessness") The union head of Calgary's front-line police officers is calling
for the federal government to scrap the billion-dollar gun registry
because it has been a colossal failure in reducing violent crime in the
country.
Al Koenig, president of the Calgary Police Association, said the
vast amount of money spent on the firearms program could have been much
better put to use for front-line police officers in Canada.
He said the program has had no effect on crime or acted in any way as a deterrent.
"Our position on this is
very firm," said Koenig.
"We do not support it, and we will be fighting against it.
"The police and the public are still at risk. . . . Despite the money
spent, it should be scrapped." Don Stewart, spokesman for the Calgary
Police Service, said that to the
best of the force's knowledge, there have been no charges laid this
past year by police specifically related to the new gun legislation.(Hey!!
Didn't Martin say in his New Year speech that the police support this
farce? Well, these guys don't, the Ontario Association of Police ChiefS
don't, the O.P.P. Don't, The Toronto Police Service don't, Virtually
every cop on the street doesn't, So just which Police support this
thing? And Lobby groups are NOT the police! And as for the 'soon to be
gone in the next election' McLellan, the ONLY way to make it better is
to make it GONE! Taxpayers are sick and tired of watching your
government piss away our hard earned dollars of your socialistic pet
projects... ENOUGH ALREADY!!)
Gun registry costs targeted Trouble program to be reviewed in 'a very pragmatic way,' says McLellan (Here comes the 'whitewash' job of 2004) EDMONTON - Public Safety Minister Anne McLellan has launched a cabinet-level review of Canada's controversial gun registry to try to make the much criticized program more effective and cost-efficient. McLellan, whose responsibilities include the Canada Firearms Centre, said in a year-end interview the goal is to protect Canadians from violence without unnecessary spending. Albina Guarnieri, the associate minister of national defence and minister of state for civil preparedness, will head the review at McLellan's request. While McLellan says she's committed to the registry, she says the report could be the basis for changes. Guarnieri said the organization must provide police with the information they need without being unacceptable to hunters, gun collectors and recreational shooters. mcLellan said she's distressed the program ran into the technical difficulties it did. But she said it is a major information technology system, and few of them are delivered on time and on budget -- whether in the public or private sector. She doesn't expect the massive cost overruns of the gun registry will lose her votes in the federal election expected sometime this spring -- a particularly significant issue for McLellan, since her electoral victories have always been by slim margins. "Very few voters make their decisions on any one issue," she said. "I think the issues that really matter to people are issues like health and whether their kids get to go to university."(Here we go again! The start of every year says they are going to make this mess all better. This farce will NEVER provide the police with any useful information, and will NEVER be acceptable to hunters, gun collectors and recreational shooters. McLellan's electoral wins have been non existent. She has ONLY been elected due to right-wing vote splitting, the right is no longer split, and there is NO WAY this woman well be re-elected on her own merit. Get rid of this woman, and then get rid of the registry. THAT'S the only way to make it better and cost effective!) |
