Chapter 3
As soon as the dust had cleared there was nothing left of the warehouse; just a large scorched hole where it had been. Kathleen's father found her unconscious in the middle of the hole and took her home. When she recovered he simple replied, as if nothing had happened, that she had been asleep all day. He said he had called her in sick at school and she could go tomorrow if she felt better. Kathleen couldn't remember anything of what had happened that morning at the warehouse and what her dad said made sense. Maybe I have been asleep all day, she thought.
"Wasn't that so bizarre! I thought that, that warehouse would last for ever!" gossiped Hannah, Kathleen's best friend. It was the next day and when Kathleen went to school her friend, Hannah, greeted her.
"Did you hear that it burned down with unknown causes they said it's like it just went poof!" Hannah said throwing her hands into the air.
"Sure yeah whatever Hannah. We all thought that the warehouse was indestructible," said Kathleen rolling her eyes. The bell rang and the students took their seats.
"So Kathleen where were you yesterday. You didn't skip did you?" asked the boy sitting behind her.
"No of course not why would I do such a thing." she implied batting her eyelashes in an innocent matter.
"Class I am sick of all your nonsense talking. I will have none of it!" shrieked the teacher. "None?" remarked a student that got everyone laughing.
"Quiet now! Settle down!" While everyone was laughing and shouting no one noticed a strange new girl entering the classroom slowly one by one the students, for some reason, quieted down.
"Amazing. What a scary girl" whispered the boy sitting behind Kathleen.
"I don't see what's so scary. She looks normal to me." Kathleen whispered back.
"Its not that its just... I don't know..." then he continued to stare at the new comer. He did have a point there was just something there that wasn't right. Its almost as if she was, ... Kathleen couldn't think of anything so she studied the girl instead.
"Class this is Chandra and she will be your new classmate so get to know her" but before the teacher could continue Chandra butted in to say something.
"If you don't like me that's fine I'm sure we can work something out." Chandra said flashing the class such an eerie smile; once again the class was stunned into silence. Kathleen swore that Chandra was looking straight at her. Kathleen gulped and lowered head to avoid eye contacted. What am I doing I never cower at anybody. Kathleen forced her self to look up and stare straight back at Chandra. Only now Chandra had her back tuned and was receiving work from the teacher. Kathleen continued to stare. Kathleen would have been better off only if Chandra hadn't look back at her and flashed her another one of her smiles. Did she know that I was watching her? Or did she just choose then to look back. Now Kathleen was frustrated why did this girl have wired smiles why did she- oops. Kathleen cursed her self she was to busy worry about the girl that she didn't bother to pay attention to her surroundings and now Chandra was coming right at her!
" I think I will sit right here" Chandra breathed as she placed her binder onto the desk right next to Kathleen. Ugg, Kathleen thought, now what great I have to sit by this freak!
