Chapter 14
Kathleen woke up to a soft voice. "Wake up sleepy head its almost noon"
White hair was draped over her shoulders as Ivory lightly shook Kathleen awake. Kathleen half expected to wake up to her own bedroom but instead of light blue walls she woke up to the brown inside of a tree. Kathleen sighed as she sat up in the fluffy bed.
"Hannah is outside playing with the squirrels and Chandra has breakfast ready down stairs." Chimed Ivory.
"Oh" said Kathleen. Ivory got up and went back down stairs she walked soft and smoothly. Just like a squirrel thought Kathleen. Slowly Kathleen climbed down stairs drawn by the aroma of food. "How long have you been up" Kathleen asked Chandra as she came into view.
"At least an hour" Chandra filled a wood bowl with something sweet smelling; she handed it to Kathleen.
"What is it?" asked Kathleen staring at the lumpy looking food.
"It's a nut and berry mix thing I made" she paused and saw Kathleen turning her nose up at the bowl "Don't worry it won't hurt you" Chandra said flashing a smile. Kathleen took her breakfast with the image of the smile fresh in her mind. Well thought she thought Chandra feels better. She walked outside and sat down on the smooth grass finally she tasted the contents of the bowl. It was good it tasted… well like berries and nuts. As soon as she was done she set the bowl down and got up to stretch. I don't know what it is about this place but it's awfully peaceful she thought. She stood there awhile watching Hannah jump and skip around playing with the squirrels. Kathleen returned inside and helped Chandra clean the dishes Hannah came in with hunger pains and finished off what was left of mornings breakfast.
"Where's Ivory?" asked Hannah licking her bowl clean.
"I don't know I haven't seen her since this morning" replied Chandra putting the last of the dishes away. Feeling lazy the girls crashed into the comfortable chairs and started to talk. I may enjoy my stay here after all thought Kathleen.
"The squirrels are SO cute" Hannah cooed. Telling them about her day.
"We usually are." Replied a white haired form.
"Ivory!" Hannah said jumping up to great her.
"Sit back down Hannah I have something urgent to tell you three."
"What now." said Kathleen; who was tired of all the talking. Ivory handed Kathleen a small brown leather bag.
"That holds what remains of the Leaches crystal." Her voice was stern and sounded alien come from the princess "The crystal's not safe here and nether are you I fear that you were not brought here on accident. There are allies of the Leaches in all shape and sizes. Don't ask questions" She tossed them each a bag the size of a backpack included with straps. "There's food, clothing and money, should you come across a town. I will send messengers to see how you are doing. Now Leave" The girls knew that asking questions never got them anywhere and if they could fall through into a dimension this could happen too. Ivory followed them outside and ran in front of them in the form of a white squirrel.
"She will lead us as far as she dares to go." Said Hannah almost to tears, she had made tons of squirrel friends and it was hard for her to leave them all. They made their way back to the door and down the dark tunnel.
