Obituary for Nancy Jane Ledbetter, Hardin County, Illinois Nancy Jane Ledbetter was born in this county November 16, 1842; departed this life September 20, 1924, being at her death 81 years, 10 months and 4 days old. She was united in marriage to Allen Hobbs February 18, 1852, to whom she was a devoted companion until 6 years previous, when death claimed the husband. Since that time she made her home with her children, mostly her son, Riley, where death fond her. To this union was born 8 children, all of whom survive her: Mrs George Oxford, Josh, George, Arch, John, Riley, Joe and Dock Hobbs. All were present except Arch who is in Missouri. She accepted her Savour as her guide in her earlier days and lived a constant Christian until death. Although her suffering was geat and of long duration, she bore it with patience. She said she saw Jesus and was going home. So let us weep not as those who have no hope for our loss is Heaven's gain. Let us follow in mother's foot-steps that we may so we may too say we are going home. . Some sweet day we will meet her to part no more. She leaves 8 children, 22 grandchildren , a host of relatives and friends to mourn her departure. On the following day the remains were taken to the home place where Rev. Will Dutton rendered a very impressive sermon, after which all that was mortal of our loved one was lowered to it last resting place by her husband. Farewell dear mother. Written by Maude E. Kaegi. Obituary for Nancy Jane Angleton, Hardin County, Illinois OBITUARY Nancy Jane Angleton, widow of Thomas A. Angleton, was born 5 Sep. 1849 and died at her home on Harris Creek Mar. 23, 1910 of a brief illness of lagrippe. She was the first daughter and fifth child of Nancy Jane (Patton) and Elias Oxford and was born and reared a quarter of a mile of where she died. She was first married to James Oxford in the spring of 1866 by whom she had five (5) children, only two (2) of whom, Wilmer Oxford and Mrs Peter Hambrink survive her. Her first husband died in Oct. 1883 and in Sep. 1885 she married Thomas Angleton by whom she had Millard, who survives her. It can be truthfully said of her last husband that he was exceptionally good and kind to his step-children which kindness they recipocated, thereby promoting peace and happiness in the family. She grew to woman-hood at the time when the educational facilities in this county were so very bad, only those who had a burning hope for an education and pressed against geat odds ever got beyond the three R's and hence her education was very limited in the ability merely to read a little. She had been a member of the General Baptist Church for many years, and of her purity of heart, honesty of purpose and upright Christian life, no one who knew her ever had the slightest doubt. As a wife and mother she had few equals, was devoted and loving, giving the best service of her life to her family. Socially she had few charms, of those who knew her will admire her because of her innate kindness of heart. She is survived by brothers, John A. Oxford and George W. Oxford; sister Hannah E. Brownfield, besides a host of other relatives and friends who mourn her death. After a funeral discourse by Rev. E.N. Hall, in where he gave a beautiful and loving tribute to the deceased- --dwelling especially of purity, industry and quality of life. Taken from the Hardin County Independent, Hardin County, Illinois
