06/08/2000, Thursday - Kansas City Vacation
(age: 3 years, 6 months, 19 days)
Christopher jumps to Dad in pool at hotel (6/2/2000)
Last weekend we took a trip to Kansas City to Uncle Rick's wedding. Click here for all the details and fun stories.

06/09/2000, Friday - Summer Fun
(age: 3 years, 6 months, 20 days)
Here are some of the things that are going to keep Christopher busy this summer. Both Nicole and Christopher are in Summer Shine twice a week. It's kind of like Vacation Bible School with crafts, stories, play time, etc. It goes from 9am to 2pm, so it give Mom lots of time to do arrands.

He and Nicole are also in a summer reading program at the library. Christopher loves to emulate his sister. The other day he picked up a book and mumbled a story as he thumbed through each page. Very cute. Christopher is also really getting into letter sounds. Last night, out of the blue, he turned to me and said,

"Fuh, Fuh, Fuh Eff. Eff is for Fun!"

(age: 3 years, 6 months, 23 days)
Last March I talked about how Christopher is afraid of his smoke detector (see here). That fear continues to a point where he's actually told us he's seen it shoot smoke and fire across the room. He also asks us to take it down. He's come to me before asking how one goes about taking it down. He's never panicked about it. He just wants it taken down. Quite an imagination.

Christopher now has a favorite bedtime ritual. After saying prayers, he likes to grab my hand and snuggle up to it as if he's going to sleep with it all night long. If I try to pull away, he holds on tighter. It's a fun game. After I pull away, we then blow kisses to each other. Christopher grabs my kiss and slaps it on his left cheek. He then blows me a kiss and I do the same and then give him a thumbs up which he reciprocates.

Speaking of the left cheek. That's the cheek he insists we kiss at bed time. If we kiss the other, that's okay, but things aren't complete until we kiss the left. In fact, last night I kissed him on the forhead and he took his fingers, Christopher outside at sundown (6/3/2000, Kansas City)"grabbed" it and dragged it down onto his left cheek. Very interesting.

06/13/2000, Tuesday - Swimming Lessons
(age: 3 years, 6 months, 24 days)
Christopher took his first swimming lesson yesterday. I asked him how it was and all he said was "I put my eyes in the water." Sounds good so far. Later, however, Tina mentioned his second lesson which is today. He said, "I don't want to go back." I think he though he was done. "Miss" Rosie does make the kids work hard. I'm sure he'll get into it. The lessons are for three weeks, four times a week.

06/14/2000, Wednesday - Bunk Beds
(age: 3 years, 6 months, 25 days)
Yesterday, Christopher got his new bunk beds. He is so excited. He showed me all about how to use the ladders. Nicole loves it too. In fact, she slept on the top bunk last night. We told Christopher he must stay dry for a whole week before he can sleep in the top bunk.

06/19/2000, Monday - Father's Day, Bunk Bed Train Shed, Swimming
(age: 3 years, 6 months, 30 days)
Christopher's train shed bed (6/18/2000)
It was a very nice Father's Day yesterday. Tina made Christopher and me matching father-son shirts. Pretty cool. They also got me a "Just Dad and Me" book that features Disney's Goofy and his son. It was fun reading it to the kids. Nicole made me a wonderful Father's Day card, complete with picture of me and a cloth tie.

Over the weekend, Tina converted Christopher's bunk bed into a full blown train shed that perfectly matches the sheds in his Thomas the Tank Engine play set. She's amazing. A black canope makes the roof over the top bunk (angled from the corner of wall and ceiling). Material hangs down the sides painted with bricks, windows and even ivy growing up the wall. Both kids love it.

Christopher continues swimming lessons this week. He didn't much like it at first, but now he's getting the hang of it. Last Friday he was putting his face in the water until Miss Rosey counted to three.

06/23/2000, Friday - Yucky Stuff, Bad Cut
(age: 3 years, 7 months, 3 days)
A while back, Christopher came up to me and said, "Do you want to see my yucky stuff?" Well, how do you answer a question like that? I didn't have to answer, he showed me anyway. He pulls his lower eyelid away from his eyes to expose the red under layer. I think he likes it because it makes Nicole scream. Only a boy!

Christopher was playing at a friends the other day. Somehow he got a toy stuck on his little finger, pulled it off and gashed his finger pretty badly. The wound is about half an inch long and three millimeters wide and pretty deep. It looks to me like it may scar. When it happened, I'm told, he told people "I'm bleeding. I'm bleeding." but didn't cry or panic. He winces when he washes his hands, but other than that he's fine. He even went swimming the next day. I'm still convinced that boys have little or no nerve endings.
