Welcome to Paanjang's website , where a typical SMK Seafield student brings his school to the world through his own means for honor , glory and driven by the urge to be ahead. Currently studying in Adelaide Australia, where catching up with the demands of university life and letting lose through Mechwarrior is a daily affair. Also looking forward to the day he meet the girl he loves.

I bought a computer microphone yesterday so that I can talk to my friends when I'm on the internet. While I'm online, I use a software called Skype that acts like ICQ but allows the user on both ends to make calls like on the telephone. I tried it with my friend who is back in Malaysia (he was the one who recommend me Skype) but unfortunately the connection wasn't as good as I thought .For some reason our voices seem to cut off and continue every few sentences. Must be due to the low connection speed of my internet pre-paid dial-up which is at a jaw-dropping low of 31.2 kbs!! The internet provider here is already charging rates more than our Streamyx at home and still have speeds slower than our dial-up. My internet provider claimed that it has broadband at dial-up prices but the reality is that it has dial-up at broadband prices!! Oh well, the AUD 13.95 microphone which I bought should last a long time before I use it again.

I did try the microphone for other uses. I remembered that Microsoft Office can dictate what I am talking. So I tried the voice recognition software in Office so see if this software really works or not. No matter how high tech it sounds , it simply doesn't understand what I am trying to say. It also takes time for it to recognize the words I said (and this is on my P4 laptop mind you) and dictate them. The majority of words I spoke appeared different on the screen. Here's an example :

"testing one that the day the books yesterday in winter.  But warfare venue to buy the aero booster bypass the storm the system to Bernie to take us to stall the system for me and though boost a six C. has to golden touch me, stole porting Unix to"

What I really said was "Testing Testing 1,2,3 . Good it is working. Yesterday I went to my venue to buy a Liao booster. I ask the store assistant to pull for me since he has the golden touch when it comes to pulling uniques".  See that it only recognized several words like testing, booster and golden touch. Looks like my computer needs more training than a baby.

Like what I said in the above paragraph, I went to my venue again to buy myself a booster. I try not to overspend on MWDA here , but since it is still the holidays , I thought I should buy one to keep my holiday mood going. I was surprised to see that my venue has sold every single CS booster and ordering more. On the internet I have read that people are quitting MWDA and stop buying boosters but over here people are actually still buying them! So the only boosters left are the Liao Incursion boosters and some DFA boosters.

I ask the store assistant again to take for me a Liao booster from behind the counter. He has the golden touch when it comes to boosters. Last week he pulled a Federick Bo, the BR Shadow Cat II. Yesterday he pulled a "For Sale" Burnak , the SS Shockwave. Before the holidays he pulled a Bounty Hunter for me. So I thought maybe once again he might pull me a good Liao unique for me.

The Liao booster I got did indeed have a unique, the BR Locust. Disappointed that I did not get a Tian-Zong or another Shen Yi, but at AUD 15 a booster, any unique is still a unique. I was even happier that I finally acquired the Highlander VTOL I was looking high and low for ; the Highlander Donar. I really like its paint scheme and its 14 inch energy range. The only thing that makes it bad compared to the other VTOLs is its 2 damage and 9 attack (the other better VTOLs have a 3 damage and a 10 attack). However if it is use for mop-up and harassments, it is a perfect VTOL.   The infantry I got was the SH minigun cycle and ROTS Fa Shih (funny thing is that I traded both away and they returned to me).

For the past few days I have been waking up very late, usually around 12-1 in the afternoon. After waking up at 6.30 am last on the Wednesday the previous week I must had a very big hangover and slept more than before. That is why on the Wednesday this week I woke 3 hours later to avoid pushing myself by waking up 6 hours earlier. Must be the holiday mood that is starting to wear off as the holiday draws to a close. Classes start on the 27th of April , next Tuesday. Still feel very lazy though, even though I got some work to finish up (At least I have done one lab report, done half of the other and done half of my Engineering and Environment Assignment). Reminds me that work should be done before the holidays and not during the holidays.

My phone bill this time is low compared to last month. This month's phone bill cost half of last month's phone bill at AUD 33.99  (which btw, is still RM 100) . The previous months one was a bomb, costing AUD 75.35 when I call home using the line by the local telephone company. Most of the calls I made during this month was for internet and it only cost AUD 8.60= RM 25.8 for 42 calls. The 2 calls I made to home , which sums up to less than 2 minute cost AUD 1.89 = RM 5.70!!! Compared to the calls made by my parents back home, a 20 minute call to my room costs only RM 3.60!!!  The rent of the line is at AUD 23.50. Something tells me the telephone and ISP company here is more cut-throat than our Telekom Malaysia. The deadline is 30th April, so I got to remind myself to pay soon.

I recently bought myself oranges as peaches are out of season. I bought a bag full of Valencia oranges which weights 3kg. I have tried 2 of them yesterday and it tastes as good as the Navel oranges where each one weights more than 200grams !!!! The Navel oranges are huge I tell you! If there is one thing about kwai loh countries is that everything is big (so does the price of everything :p ).  So when I come home I really feel like a millionaire after looking at the prices here (MWDA costs more here , internet cost more here, uni fees cost more here, accommodation costs more here.... this there anything that costs less here ? Cars costs less here... but petrol is bloody expensive).

Talking about tuition fees. I talked to one of my kwai loh group members about how much they pay compared to me. I was shocked that we international students pay 100% more than they do and they are already  complaining that the government will raise their tuition fees (bad for us too since the uni are allowed to slaughter us even more). I pay like AUD 19000 per annum while they pay AUD 9000-10000 per annum. He said something about taxes and all that but I think it is most likely the HECS, whatever you call it they have to pay. I am not sure how much they pay for HECS but I don't think the HECS can raise their tuition fee to my level. And this is in Adelaide mind you. Ahhh compared to Inti , Inti is sooo much friendlier on our wallets.  Comparing Inti to here.

Inti

 Adelaide University

Tuition fees. RM 15000 per annum  AUD 19000= RM 60000
Accommodation RM 1000 for 3 months  AUD 140 per week, electricity , gas and water included.
Transport Very little since I can walk to campus AUD 12.84 per week to take bus
Food Most I spend about RM 20-30 on food per day At AUD 5= RM 15 per meal, so about AUD 15 per day
Car Got car . Toll and petrol to go back and forth is only about RM 50 per week No car at all. No need actually.
Books The most expensive book so far I have bought is about RM 100. Sometimes can Photostat the book. The price is similar to Inti, but it is now in Aussie. No way anyone will Photostat the book for you here.
Internet My hostel room has a LAN with broadband internet. And to think we complained so much... AUD 54.90 for 70 hours of dial-up. AUD 23.50 for renting the phone line.
Mechwarrior Boosters cost RM 35, cheaper if you buy more At AUD 15.95 a booster, I only buy it if I fell very lucky.
Telephone calls Very cheap. I use my handphone to call home everyday. Each call was worth maybe about RM 1-3. Every 60 days I reload RM 60 into the phone. Sometimes go problem finishing up the money.  AUD 23.50 for renting the phone line per month. Local calls is at 60 Aussie cents per call. International calls can cost as much as AUD 1 per minute!!! Ask your parents to call from home; it is cheaper.

My hand phone uses Pre-paid. Last for 6 months. Cost AUD 29.95 to start. Haven't finish the money yet because I rarely call with handphone.

Exchange rate is AUD 1= RM 3. Do show this chart to anyone who wants to come over to Adelaide Australia. I can assure you that it costs more in Melbourne.
