Ten thousand rucksacks and a rock
Tony versus the volcano
Many people say climbing Mount Fuji is something you should do once while in Japan.
Once is enough!

It doesn't look that big, does it?

While we waited for the others to arrive, there was a great view to enjoy.

It took a while for everyone to get there.

We started climbing after sundown, to catch the sunrise at the top.

Leaving the fifth stage, 8:40PM.

The night was clear.

A full moon lit the way to the top.

Just below the summit, 4:20AM.

Waiting for the sunrise.

4:34AM, Altitude 36xxm.

As the sun rose there were cries of "Banzai" from the summit.

The rest of Japan was sensibly sleeping.

The top got crowded after 5AM.

Weary travellers look back on the route to the top.

The peak was like some other planet.

A deceased Volcano.

Ramen shops await the succesful climbers - very expensive.

Watch your step!

No matter where you go, it's uphill!

Taking a break at the top.

Don't jump!

A weather observatory at the top looks appropriately space station-ish.

More climbing!

The Japan Alps look small in comparison.
