Making the Power Poster
Before you start instruction on the "Power Paragraph", it would be a good idea to make a poster that models the structure of the paragraph.  This will provide a visual aid for the students to reference in class as they write their paragraphs and take their quizzes.  I have provided an example for you to use as follows:

10 Easy Steps
STEP 1: Orientation to the "Power Paragraph"
STEP 2: Make Power Poster
STEP 3: Example Paragraphs
STEP 4: Power Statements
STEP 5: Marking the Pieces
STEP 6: Brainstorming
STEP 7: Drafting
STEP 8: Refining and Final Draft Activities
STEP 9: Assessment
STEP 10: Further Exploration

Make sure that you keep the colors of the rectangles as they are.  Green for the POWER STATEMENT and CONCLUSION, blue for TRANSITIONS, yellow for REASONS/DETAILS/FACTS, and pink for EXAMPLES/QUOTES. The students will have to highlight these areas on later tests to show that they can identify them properly.  These are the desired colors of highlighting.
This poster can be the size of a regular poster board.  Post this somewhere conspicuous in your classroom
