We left for ALMERIA region where many tomatoes are grown under plastic. We visited a company which packs vegetables and holds wholesale auctions. After that, we head for EL EJIDO to visit Humber Growers, an UK company establishing a new tomato house.

Almeria, which is the capital of the province of the same name, was called Portus Magnus by the Romans, and Al-Mariyya (mirror of the sea) by the Arabs. Surrounded by three mountain ranges. The area is reckoned to average 322 days of sun per pear.....Click here


Humber Growers built new 2ha greenhouse. The area will be extended to cover 16ha. 

There are some problems are faced by growers in Spain, such as the whitefly Bemisia tabaci and tomato yellow leaf curl virus. The other problem for Spanish nurseries is water supply.
