UNREAL
HISTORY OF THE MCADOO FOOTBALL LEAGUE
By:
Adam Yelito
The
McAdoo Football League began on a cold day back in 1988
with a Nerf Turbo Football and a dream. The dream was to
create the most hardcore and extreme football action
ever seen.
The
hardcore action all began at the St. Patrick's Field,
which hosted the first MFL game in front of a small
crowd. When the action got too extreme for the St.
Patrick's Field, the need for a new field was required
and the action moved to Fr. Martin's Field, where the
first Thanksgiving Day Game was played in front of a
standing room only audience. But as MFL grew, the action
could not be contained at the Fr. Martin's Field and the
need for a new home with more seating was needed. So
again MFL packed its bags and moved to its new home at
McAdoo Veteran's Memorial Field, which is more commonly
known as The MFL Field. The MFL Field hosts weekly
contests between two teams in front of capacity crowds.
Unfortunately, MFL shares this field with other
organizations and the weekly games sometimes are moved
to the Alternative Field, which is only down the road
from the MFL Arena. And even though the games are at the
Alternative Field the games defeat the competition as
the fans back the Alternative Field to see what has
become the most extreme football action in Northeast
Pennsylvania.
The
extreme football action known as MFL was started by some
players, who are 4 Life, and some players, who have
retired. The players, who have been retired for a long
time now are Jason Bonko, Jeff Avilion, and Brian
Richards. The reasons for retiring are many, like jobs,
alcohol, and the action got just too hardcore, in any
sense the contributions are few but the help in forming
the MFL are not mention less. Now the players who are 4
life, contributed in countless ways and are the key for
the formation of the MFL and developing it to everything
MFL has become and stands for. Some of these players are
Nick Perhonitch, Chris Perhonitch, Mike Bielen,
and Adam Yelito. As MFL grew so did the stable of
players who have all brought their own contributions and
style to MFL. And with the list of players constantly
growing and now including players outside of the McAdoo
boundaries, who are known as the "Outsiders",
it seems MFL will continue to grow and gain strength
well into the next millennium.
