Workshop: Title: "The Pith of the Poem"
Description: Students should bring one poem (no longer than one page in length) to each class. Poems will be discussed in class. Bring 15 copies to the workshop. If there is time, or if someone gets stuck, there will be exercises in and out of class. Publishing poems in magazines, anthologies,and books will also be discussed.

Prose Writer-in-Residence: TIM PARRISH
Workshop: Title: "Building Story: The Carpentry and Architecture of Narrative"
Description: Class will revolve
around student work. Discussion will focus on craft and vision. We'll talk
about the tools available (nouns and verbs, point of view, characterization,
structure, etc.) and how a writer might best utilize these tools to achieve
his or her objective. We will probably do a few exercises and examine samples
of published work.
