WEEK 1: June 24 - 28

Poet-in-Residence: SAMUEL MENASHE

Workshop: Title: "With Rhyme and Reason"

Description: Menashe's sessions aim at developing the kind of eye that will enable you to hone your writing on your own, away from workshops and classes. Revision will be encouraged to get the right words for the image which provoked the poem. As Dante said, the word should be like a lens through which you see the thing itself.

M-F 8:30-10:30 a.m. CLSC Alumni Hall

Prose Writer-in-Residence: KENT R. BROWN

Workshop: Title: "Conflict: The Heartbeat of Drama"

Description: Whether for the page or the stage, the essential tenet remains the same: no conflict, no drama. High stakes must be involved for audiences/readers to care about your characters. In this workshop participants will explore the dimensions of conflict -- where to find it, how to shape it, how to communicate it through dialogue, detail and character action. Short scenes and monologues will be written.
