A 3123 update: April 2, 2009. Nothing new. "Watchful waiting".

Update: Friday, October 24

A3123 has been defeated. It remains in Committee. We will continue to keep an eye on it, but we have been assured that it will die quietly, as have previous anti-homeschool bills.

H.E.A.R.T.S.

(Homeschoolers Educating, Assisting, & Reaching-out Through Service)

"Statewide, homeschoolers consistently become involved in community outreach as part of their daily learning. The organization called H.E.A.R.T.S. was recently created in an effort to capitalize on this volunteer spirit by coordinating efforts - reaching beyond the barriers of religion, politics, educational philosophy, and distance.

"H.E.A.R.T.S.' goal is to join together in service projects a representation of the wonderful diversity of community minded homeschoolers -- to provide valuable services to our communities while generating increased public awareness, understanding, and acceptance of the full spectrum of homeschoolers.

"Community participation is always invited and appreciated!"

"Grandfather of Homeschooling" has passed away.

Dr. Raymond S Moore, the inspiration to many homeschoolers of recent generations, died Friday, July 13, 2007.

Dr. Moore wrote a number of books about raising and educating children, the most well-known probably being Better Late Than Early a plea to allow children to develop at their own pace rather than forcing them into the arbitrary schedules of schools.

Dr. Moore and his late wife Dorothy educated their children at home starting in the 1940's, before the term "homeschooling" was coined. They led by example, by their ready advice and support to other families, and by their creation of Hewitt Research Foundation, and the Moore Foundation.

Never afraid to speak the truth, Dr. Moore spoke out against the division of the homeschooling community into factions by a group of people who sought to profit from isolating Evangelical Protestants from other homeschoolers.

Raymond and Dorothy Moore will be missed. Their influence will live on.
