In the summer of 1996 the members of the KS list decided to create a welcome message for new members that would explain our list's jargon, etiquette and purpose.  In the summer of 1999 several of us realized a need to make more information available to the list community at large. The resulting overhaul of our welcome letter resulted in the KS Users Manual, the document that you are now reading. We sincerely believe that we have created a useful resource for all members of the list community.
