Intelligence vs. bombing

Dear Friends, Let's try to put together some of the pieces we have gained access to. First of all, it seems clear that our intelligence services failed miserably at exploiting the inate fractions in the fundamentalist movement. Secondly, American airpower is useless against that movement because it is diffuse, ad hoc in its structuring and based on "cells" distributed throughout the world that are well imbeded in their countries of residence. Thirdly, the entire *religious* structure is devoted to demonstrating to the American people that it can hit them at anytime and anywhere with devastating blows. Lastly, all our retaliatory blows-- now and in the future-- invariably fall on noncombatants, enflaming the Moslems all over the world to come closer-- where they will be more receptive-- to the idea of passively or actively (as a martyr for Allah, work to prove to the world America's vunerability. None of this could be possible without the "fascilitating" labors of Mullahs as diplomats and negotiators between fratricidal Moslem sects and nationalities. The TRANS- nationalization of Moslem Fundamentalism has long been obvious. But it width, depth and strength in the Moslem communities all over the world was grossly underestimated. Perhaps we will now realize that it is possible for one in a hundred Moslem youths to become a martyr for Allah. That makes for very many cells. But cells are outgrowths of religious self-focusing. It should be possible therefore to do some polarization of our own, finding those Moslem Americans who will help save THEI, as well as our, country from terrorism. Certainly we should be able to recruit as wideely and as deeply as binLaden. While we don't ask for suicidal action we do demand accurate and useful information. Therefore, we require even less skills than the cells require of the martyrs. We can, therefore, expect results right away. This kind of going to get and bringing back intelligence about the cells in our country will make very clear which Moslem Americans stand with America and which stand with terrorism. We cannot tolerate a "neutral" position. But, we should be ready to greatly reward our TRUE "friends" who prove themselves by providing authorities with useful information and severly punish those "enemies" that obstruct our effort or claim to be neutral while helping the terrorist cells. We know quite well who the Moslems are. The rest is up to them. We must let them choose. If they chose against us then they must realize that by not reponding to their country's call they are fair game for investigation and observation as POtential allies and agents of the terrorists. But I consider the wild dragnet by which the Atorney General's office has been detaining Moslems an outrage. It is as brainless as the dropping of VW bug-like bombs on Afghanistan. If there was any chance that destruction of the Taliban would destroy the terrorist networks I would be all for it. But in fact they only polarize Moslems who otherwise might side with us because we represent the future by contradicting Sharia and separating Church and State. As we have seen with Right to Life people, it is hard to get faithful believers who think that some practice is a moral crime-- thus murder-- to accept the legalistic "right to choose." Moral right is invariably, in the eyes of the pious, higher than personal right to choose. If to them freedom to choose to murder a fetus is the same as freedom to murder a person, one cannot expect them to be tolerant of the arbortion rights people. Similarly, if we place Moslems in a position of choosing to help us murder what, for better or worse, they consider holy men, then we force them to support these men no matter what they do on moral grounds. We must, instead ask them to help us find the killers in their midst specifically so that we may bring them to justice. Blowing up Afghani toiwns and helping thugs take over will only polarize them against what they consider an immoral act. Our bombing is NOT designed to bring binLaden to justice. It has been accepted that when we are close to capturing him he will blow himself to bits, becoming a sort of Moslem "Zappata lives" legend. And destroying the Taliban will not solve the problem either, since ALL MOSLEM STATES-- especially our Moslem "allies"-- have and will support continued Moslem fundamentalist "fatwas" against us. When Pres. Bush asked us to be patient, he should have asked us to give him time to retool our intelligence assets so that they can worm into the cracks in the Mosle, terrorist dung to fragment it from within, thus saving the American people from their cells in the US. Instead he deflected the mission to a show trial by fire, bombong the hell out of a helpless country already fragmented into bandit gangs and theiving tribes. We sought to destabilize chaos at a cost of billions of dollars, now that every cent counts. Instead, we should have worked quietly to pick up the garbbage piece by piece, there where it is strewened-- THE ENTIRE MIDDLE EAST, especially amongst our "allies." At the same time we should have given all our Moslem Americans a chance to prove whether they are Moslems of America or Moslems in America by how much they assist the national effort at dienabling the terrorist cells. Now we ask them to endorse the pulverization of one group of Moslems in one country as our "enemy" while paying off other groups of Moslems as our "allies" in other countries, even though BOTH HELPED alQaeda EQUALLY AT THE VERY LEAST. Had America worked alone, using the quietly accumulated intelligence assets to pick up the garbbage, it would not have sought to buy support from binLaden's benefactors. But now we call these accessories to murder allies because they DO NOT codemn our useless and wasteful bombong of Afghanistan. Please think it through and tell your President that you don't want DUMB airpower (that has no idea what it is bombing) to be passed off as a substitute for SMART intelligence that works quietly, precisely and effectively. We americans know that our intelliegence was crippled by Mr. Clinton's Administration. We are, therefore, patient waiting for results. But we will not tolerate perpetuating our nation's victimization with a quick-fix that totally discredits our capacity to deter. Daniel E. Teodoru
