Remember Khomeini Who Started It All
Dear Friends,
As our "war" allegedly with bin Laden proceeds from
day to day, the news media continues to pump us with
"the story." But what we are told never mentions the
name of KHOMENI, the cleric who started it all. As a
student at Bucharest's Facultatea de Medicina Generala
in the early 1980s I noticed that many of the Arab and
Iranian students (these composed some 51% of the class)
never seemed to show up at classes. I will not go into
details, but it turns out that many were using the
faculties as cover for their real "studies"--the art
of terrorism in a camp near Ploesti.
The Brezhnev Politburo had chosen Romania and East
Germany to train any and all wanna-be terrorists,
whatever their cause, to set them loose on the West.
On the one hand, the Russians were fighting the
mujahadins in Afghanistan, on the other, they were
training Arab and Iranian terrorists in Romania and
East Germany. This should be recalled when we speak
of our "Grand Alliance" with Moslem nations.
Indeed, Arab and Iranian diplomacy centers on being
on *both* sides of an issue so that, either way,
you don't lose. When Khomeni took power in Iran he
decided that it was his mission to unite all Moslems
for a holy war-- a Jihad-- against the infidels of
the West. Many Moslems exhibited a pious side at home,
but when visiting the West they were totally debauched.
This hypocricy was not seen by Khomeni as a flaw in
the Muslim faith, serving as a social practice rather
than a personal guide. Instead, he saw it as
demonstration of the caustic power of Western cultures
to corrupt the faith. Thus, Khomeni wanted the source
of this corruption destroyed, as prescribed by the Kohran.
Our global economy depends on making people predictable
consumers. Since producer and clients may be continents
apart, a merchant must have a good idea of how much he
can expect to sell. The best way to do this is by infusing
in people a consumerist culture. That is why more, and more,
the global market is in fact promoted as the global culture.
The car you drive, the clothing you wear, the soda you drink
and the cigarettes you smoke are all imbeded in a social
setting, a behavioral realm and a whole new set of values,
making these products vital even to your personal identity.
I will not enter into discussion of whether we have gone
too far in trying to get the world to buy our goods. But
it is important to note that Khomeni believed that our
consumerist cultural imperialism was totally responsible
for the weakness of the Moslem faith. He and the Mullahs
around him organized a Movement of Moslem Youth Devoted
to Allah for the Restoration of the Faith. These were to
become "fighters for Allah," attacking the corruptive
forces invading the Moslem World. Because it did not affect
Americans directly, no one here took note of how these
"fighters for Allah" brought the flocks back into the faith.
For example, whole Algerian villages of only women,
children and old folks had their throats slit. Why?
Because the men who were migrant workers in Europe
were sending trinkets back to their families. These,
the Muslim fundamentalists saw as corrupting influences
and thus they punished the wayward sinners sending such
filth into the Moslem lands. But the intellectual and
consumerist appetite of the Moslem World for high-tech
Western modernity is irrepressable. And so, the
"fighters for Allah" were converted into the
"martyrs for Allah." Since the sinners could not be
saved from temptation, the faithful would seek to slay
the "Great Satan"-- the USA-- that was responsible for
all the corruptive global modernization. These
"martyrs for Allah" would clense their sins in the
blood of the infidels by suicide missions which took
as many Americans with them as possible. For two decades,
since my student days in Romania, I have watched the
dilligent work of the Mullahs bear fruit. Over that
time thousands of suicide-killer cells were composed and
sent to the US, made up of Moslems from all sects and all
nations-- Moslems sans frontieres, you might say.
The Afghan War, the Gulf War, the Balkan War and the Kosovo
War all fed the ranks of "martyrs for Allah." The KGB and
the CIA trained them as "fighters for Allah" and the clerical
fascilitators in Iran grouped them into "martyr for Allah"
cells, ready to clense their sins in the blood of the infidels
as they go to meet Allah. These missions guarantee the "martyrs"
entry into Paradise. While totally uninhibited in sending
young men and boys to die on terrorist missions in the belly
of the beast, the Great Satan, the Mullahs themselves are
not willing to share their fate. They reason that without
them the faithful would drift into the grasp of the Great
Satan. And so, just as we had Muslims Afghanis fighting
against the KGB (trained by the CIA) in Afghanistan and at
the same time other Muslim Arabs trained by the Romanian
Securitate and East German Stasis to perpetrate acts of terror
in the West, we now have the Iranian Mullahs organizing
Bin Laden's cells while also negotiating with the US for
their participation in our "Grand Alliance." So desperate
is the Dept. of State for "more flags"-- especially Moslem ones--
in its Grand Alliance, that it forgets that it is the essence of
Arab and Iranian diplomacy to be represented on both sides so as
to best control the situation and never be defeated.
I worked hard for Pres. Bush's election. I admire him and his
courage and his down to earth openess. I also think that his
Cabinet is composed of excellent people. I in no way weaver
in my support of him. But, it is as a loyal friend and supporter
that I must say that what he is doing in Afghanistan is "BUSH-IT"!
Why? Because you can't kill a snake by stomping on its middle.
That only leaves the head free to sink its poisonous fangs into
your leg. Caught between DoD's recommendation for decisive action
and DoS's recommendation to "adapt" his policy in order to get
"more flags" on board his Grand Coalition, Pres. Bush pulled an
*LBJ in Vietnam* move and split right down the middle. To do
something while not straining his Moslem "allies," Pres. Bush
ordered our most modern aircraft to use top of the line misilles
and bombs, going after terrorism's "middle management," bin Laden & Co.
Where does that get us? Let us say we kill him, so what? And what
can we expect in retribution from the Mullahs in Iran if we succeed,
given that they have more operatives here in the US than in
Afghanistan? In medicine you are taught that above all don't
let what you do make things worse than they were before you
intervened.
Perhaps Mr. Bush would do well to consider a few questions:
(1) What would the Mullahs in Teharan think if we go after
their operatives in the Afghani desert mountains, once again
as we did in Vietnam, using assets that cost far more than
the targets we risk these assets on to destroy? Consider:
When LBJ chose to respond to the Gulf of Tonkin incident
with major airstrikes on minor targets, Beijing and Hanoi
concluded that the US was not serious about drawing the line
in Vietnam. When the US sent troops to defend South Vietnam
against North Vietnamese invasion instead of blocking Hanoi's
ports of entry for supplies, Hanoi concluded that we did not
have the resolve to see the war through to the end. In light
of that past history, what do you think the Mullahs are thinking
when they see billion dollars aircraft bombing abandoned mud shacks?
(2) The biggest open secret is that the terrorists' greatest
success was not in the destruction of buildings and the taking
of lives but in the disruption of our economy. Recall that our
global economy is, in their eyes, the work of Satan. So, given
our economy's dependence on an open society in order to function,
what can we expect them to target next, now that our wrath is
expressed only on desert mountains in order to appease our
Moslem "allies"?
(3) Given our unalterable vulnerability to
the "martyrs for Allah" cells (since our economy can only
function in an open society) shouldn't we let go of the middle
of the snake and aim for his head?
(4) Since American nuclear power was never tested after
WWII, its real power is not in bombing but in deterrence.
For 50 years the Soviets tried to defeat the US in many
ways; but they never attacked America or the West
because they knew that we had invested as much as
needed to maintain destructive superiority. Yet,
why should we convince the Mullahs as we convinced
Hanoi that, to quote Le Duan: it doesn't matter if
America has the means to win, it doesn't have the
will to win?
(5) Bin Laden's spokesman said today that they
"have many Moslem youth who love death as much as
Americans love life." But the Mullahs want to live
as much as we do. So, why let our strategy polarize
the Moslem states right out of the Grand Alliance
because of our protracted shadow-war against shadowy
targets? Already the Pakistani head of state called
for an end to the bombing. We are seen as the big bully
chasing the little desert rat. The longer he lives,
the bigger he becomes in the eyes and the dearer
in the hearts of the Muslim masses that today are
outraged by his haneous crime. This war could soon
become a full blown war between the Moslem World and
the Judeo-Christian World. The longer we prevent the
Moslem states from playing both sides for advantage,
as is their habit, the greater the chances that they
will jump to the other side to avoid internal political
collapse.
Lastly, as a victim of Yalta, I fully stand with Prime
Minister Sharon. The Munich analogy was most appropriate,
for without Munich there would have been no Yalta.
Because Chairman Arafat was too afraid to accept the
Camp David offer, last year, without the Arab states
that recommended he accept publicly standing by him,
he has lost much power to Hamas and other agents of
the Mullahs. For us to now trade Israel's security
for an imaginary state led by a politically dead man
is the ultimate betrayal. It confirms what all the
world believed since the turn of the 20th Century:
that America never learns because it thinks itself
so big and strong that it doesn't have to learn. For
us to betray Israel would not appease the Moslem World.
This is not a political war, it is a religious war--
it's not Intifada, it is Jihad. Instead our feeding
Israel to the Palestinians by forcing it to accept a
Palestinian state right now would confirm the Moslem
view that America indeed is the "Great Satan." If we,
like our Moslem "allies," waffle on our friends,
as they do, then they will see us as indeed an evil power.
For they, being weak, need to do that, but we must do
it only because of our evil nature. As small states,
they feel justified in using deception and betrayal to
get their way; but if we do the same, then in their
eyes we are no better than them. We may never get their
loyalty, but God help us if we lose their respect by
feeding Israel to them through weakening of our support
for the Jewish State. In the final analysis, all we can
do is point our ICBMs at Teharan, where the Mullahs are,
and at Baggdad, where their agents are, and hope that
they heed our warning that should another terrorist
incident be visited on us we will vaporize them. They
are not dumb; they know full well that a nuclear tipped
ICBM packs a lot more bang than a thousand fuel laden
airplanes. They know full well that they can do no more
against our ICBMs than we can do against their "martyrs
for Allah" cells. We are the ONLY superpower in the world.
That indeed places terrible responsibilities on us. But
it is not our responsability to sacrife our best men just
to catch and "bring to justice" terrorism's middle management.
I do not want to kill innocent Moslem women and children.
But I'm not going to allow Moslems to kill American innocent
women and children because I don't want to kill Moslem
innocents. If we continue on our present path, we will be
seen as a big country of little indecisive people who send
their disadvantaged to fight a disadvantageous war. But if
we pull back our men, point our misilles at Teharan and
Baggdad, give a clear warning that we will launch upon the
next event and-- above all-- SHOW FULL NATIONAL RESOVE, we
will not have to get Bin Laden because the Mullahs will
always find "martyrs for Allah" ready to get the "martys
for Allah" that risk making the Mullahs "martyrs for Allah."
I wish you good luck in the coming catastrophes, for it seems
to be all that's left to save us. Daniel E. Teodoru
