Jane Hardy was born in 1835 in West Heslerton Yorkshire England, daughter of Lancelot Hardy and Ann Wood. She came with her family to Canada in around 1843 when she was 8 years of age. The Hardy family first settled in Meadowvale, Ontario.
She married William Miller June 22nd, 1857 in Garrafraxa, Ontario, and they moved to Owen Sound around 1863. In 1908, she was left a widow and lived her remaining years with her daughter Margaret (Mrs. J.R. Brown) on First Avenue West in Owen Sound.
She was a loyal member of the First Methodist Church in Owen Sound.
She died 20th April 1917 of old age at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. J. R. Brown, First Avenue West in Owen Sound. She was in her 82nd year. She was survived by her daughter Margaret and two sons Harry and Charles Miller, well known musicians of Owen Sound. Pallbearers at her funeral were Messrs. Harry and Charles Miller, sons; R.B. and J.C. Miller, brothers-in-law; J.R. Brown, son-in-law; and J.H. Rutherford, nephew

On Friday last about mid-day death removed from her earthly home, one of Owen Sound's oldest residents in the person of Jane Hardy, wife of the late William Miller, aged eighty-two years. Deceased was born in Yorkshire, England, and came to Canada when but 8 years of age, settling with her parents at Meadowville, Ontario. Here she was married sixty-one years ago to her late husband, and over fifty-two years ago they moved to Owen Sound. Mr. Miller going into the carriage building business with his father then in business here. In 1908 Mrs. Miller was left a widow, and since that time has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. J.R. Brown, First Avenue West The late Mrs. Miller was a loyal member of the First Methodist Church and her demise will be sincerely mourned by a large number of loving friends. Besides Mrs. Brown, two sons, Harry and Charles Miller, well known musicians of the town are left to ourn her loss. The funeral took place this morning at 10.30 o'clock fom the residence of Mrs. Brown, to Greenwood Cemetery, Rev. Mr. Stewart officiating.
