bullet  General Notes:

Charles R.Miller, Artist/Musician-band leader

Charles Reuben Miller, known in Owen Sound, as "Charlie Miller" was theyoungest band leader known at that time, at the age of l7 years. He played the cornet while his brother Harry (William Harry Miller) played the drums. Their business was known as "Miller Brothers, Painters and Decorators" and they were famous for their "tube art" which was a procedure unknown at that time. They would draw the pictures and designs on walls and ceilings of home and churches and then mix their own colored paint, and squeeze the tube paints to form the designs. Charlie died from "lead poisoning" from paint.

Charlie was a wonderful artist, and his sons, William Charles Miller and John Miller, both are in possession on beautiful oil paintings done by him over a hundred years ago. The Citizens Own Band and The Forster Orchestra were two of Charlie's bands in Owen Sound. The Miller family were famous as church decorators right across Canada.

At 17 he had his own painting and decorating business and also his own band. He played the cornet in the band. He died of lead poisoning from mixing his own paints and also suffered with an illnes Tix Del a Rux (spelling?) which is a nervous disorder in the face.
