Some of the family were of the understanding that Mary Kennedy was from St. John's but her Vital Statistics death record says she was born at Ferryland. However, there is no strong evidence that there was a Kennedy family at Ferryland in the 1840s. It may be just coincidence but a Mary Kenedy is recorded as the godmother of a Thomas Meany, son of James Meany and Esther Murphy bapt. in September 1857. This record appeared in the Renews/Fermeuse baptisms and was the only record there for this couple. The baptism records do not state where the parents were from but we can speculate that this was the couple married at St. John's in 1856 and the James Meany listed at Ferryland in the voter's list of 1859.
