The Meaneys of Ferryland and Calvert (Caplin Bay), Newfoundland.

First Generation

1. Francis Meaney was born in Ireland. He died in Ferryland, NF.

Francis may have been the son of a Thomas Meaney who is mentioned in earlier court documents at Ferryland in 1795.

There are few mentions of this family at Ferryland after 1800. However it appears that one or both of the Francis Meaneys lived there in the first four decades. In the Surrogate Court Records of November 1, 1819, a Francis Meaney is listed as a juror in the Evoy vs. Callihan trial. Later in the Supreme Court Actions of May 3, 1830, Holdsworth, Arthur and Co. sued Francis Meany.

Francis married Elizabeth about 1790. Elizabeth was born in Ireland. She died in Ferryland, NF.

They had the following children:

2 M i Thomas Meaney was born 1 about 1792 in Ferryland, NF.
3 M ii Francis Meaney was born 1 about 1794 in Ferryland, NF. He died 2 about 1841 in Ferryland , NF.

There is an entry for a Francis Meaney in the Ferryland Voter's List of 1840, but none afterwards, indicating he probably died or left the area. This Francis is believed to be have been Francis Meaney, Jr. who was listed in the Ferryland Cenus of 1800.
4 F iii Mary Meaney was born 1 about 1796 in Ferryland, NF.
+ 5 M iv James Meaney
