5. James Meaney (Francis ) was born after 1800 in Ferryland, NF. He died after 1859 in Caplin Bay, NF.
Although there is no record that says James was from Ferryland, the name of his sons strongly suggests a connection with the Meaneys of Ferryland.
The notation "dead" written after James Meaney's name in the 1859 Voter's List for Caplin Bay was probably made as an update to the list in the early 1860s. James was not listed at Caplin Bay in Lovell's 1871 Directory.
James married Mary before 1840. Mary was born 1 about 1804. She died 2 on 8 Sep 1880 in Ferryland, NF.
The possibility that Jame's wife may have been from Ferryland was mentioned by Allan Meaney but he did not know her name and no record has been found to prove or disprove this possibility.
Births, Deaths, Marriages in Newfoundland Newspapers (1825-1890).
Maney, Mary, wife of the late James Maney, died 8th aged 76 at Ferryland. Sept 21/80 GTA.This entry does not completely clarify which James Meaney was Mary's husband. However, the James Meaney listed in some records for Ferryland, was married to an Esther Murphy at St. John's on Nov. 18, 1856. Mary's approximate date of birth (1804) would suggest that her husband was from an earlier era. James Meaney of Stone Island, who was probably born about 1800, seems a more likely spouse.
They had the following children:
