Global Warming is now a reality. While it was considered a myth for a long time by many scientist, none can deny now that our planet temprature has increased. The result is what we now call Climate Change. The extreme weather events we have been experiencing more and more in Canada are related to this climate change. We see more heat waves, more droughts, less snow, more intense thunderstorms, more tornadoes and windstorms, more intense rains causing flooding and landslides. The bad news is that this is not just a temporary situation. It will only get worse. The book explores some of these incidents, and how the petroleum industry's has a large part of the responsability. Every year hundreds of hectares of forest in Canada is devastated by forest fires. Although nature benefits somewhat from the regeneration that forest fires bring to the earth, the threath to life and the economic impact is astronomical. I was fascinated by the work that firefighters specialising in forest fires and wildfires do to keep our forests safe. The links below will give you a glimpse into the skills and abilities of the "Hot Shots" as they are called in the business. You may also discover as I did the dangers these brave people face on a regular basis. I hope I have been able to capture some of this in the book, but probably I cannot do justice to their courage and dedication. I wanted to add a bit of information and a few sites on the Ojibwa nation since the book includes references to some of their beliefs and their stories. Through reading this I gained new respect for our canadian native people. In particular their communion with the earth and the wildlife is something that we should try to imitate. Our planet would certainly be in better health if we did. Ojibwa Resources Ojibwa Legends Stories and facts gathered from various sources |
