Music is seen as an important part of the school curriculum. It is a compulsory lesson in years 7, 8 and 9, with the option to continue at GCSE level and AS/A2 level. Pupils also have the chance to learn an instrument, with professional brass, woodwind and violin teachers teaching on a one-to-one basis. A guitar club enables pupils to learn guitar in a slightly more informal group setting. In the compulsory lessons, pupils learn the basics of music, through theory and practical work. Different subjects covered include keyboards, guitars, popular music from the 1950's, and country music among many others. Pupils have a wide range of facilities to work with and help them and they have the chance to exhibit their musical skills in various concerts throughout the year. Music is taught at the school by Miss Whitmarsh (Head of Department) and Mr Kirby. |
