SHAMPOO
Shampoo challenges to a fight because he and his father ate the food that's supposed to be
her prize for winning a martial arts competition. Ranma wins EASILY. Shampoo then proceeds to
give Ranma-chan "the kiss of death" And with this promise to kill, Shampoo hunts Ranma-chan
down and arrives to the Tendo Dojo, BUT Shampoo doesn't know Ranma's curse and she knows
him to be a girl. Later, Ranma defeats Shampoo in the process of defending
Akane. To everyone's surprise, Shampoo kisses Ranma. With this promise
to be Ranma's wife, Shampoo sticks around. But Ranma's situation is revealed, and Shampoo returns
to Joketsuzoku, and renews her training with
Cologne, the leader.
As punishment for not defeating Ranma-chan and for not bringing home Ranma as a husband, Cologne punishes her by pushing her into the cursed springs. Later in the series, though, we see a cat who seems to be VERY attached to Ranma... When you first look at Shampoo, you mustn't be fooled by her good-girl and cheerful attitude, or her beautiful face...she can be very dangerous when she wants to be. Although Ranma IS her fiancé, she still beats him up constantly. But she doesn't want to. She loves Ranma, and cares a lot for him. Actually, Ranma also cares about her, except it's just as a friend. Usually, you would see her trying to get Ranma to kiss her and to get Akane, Kuonji Ukyo, and all the other girls away from Ranma. But Ranma isn't the only one who cares for Shampoo, there's Mousse.
Mousse is Shampoo's childhood friend who is in love with her. He has been trying to get her to
agree to marry him, but it looks like that will never happen. First, according to the village
edict, he has to defeat her to get her to marry him. But, as we know Shampoo, that's virtually
impossible. And secondly, Shampoo is in love with Ranma. But sometimes, Shampoo seems to take
pity for Mousse, especially when he risks his life for her.
Shampoo uses her bonbori (a pair of maces with big spheres on the end) as weapons. She also wielded a big curved sword when she was out to kill Ranma. Sometimes, she also uses mysterious Chinese objects and mixtures with magical powers either to get rid of her enemy or to get Ranma to fall in love with her. Of course, being a Joketsuzoku champion, she's also very good at martial arts. It's possible that she's even better than Akane. She speaks according to a stereotype of Chinese people speaking Japanese (forming many adjectives with "-teki", using "aru" as an ending), and uses Chinese conversational phrases like ![]() She and Cologne run the Neko Hanten restaurant, with Mousse also working for them. Notes about the name Shampoo, as all of you know, is a bathroom product. Perhaps by now you noticed that the people of Joketsuzoku have *ahem* weird names. But, actually, Shampoo's name, Xian Pu, means something like "coral + raw, uncut jade." Remember, she IS Chinese, ne?
