KUONJI UKYO

Ukyo is a girl who is an expert in cooking okonomiyaki. She and her father owns an okonomiyaki cart, that is before Genma took it away and left her...

When Ukyo was about 6 years old, she and her father met Saotome Ranma and his father, Genma. Ukyo and Ranma eventually become "friends"-a beautiful friendship born out of combat. Ranma would, practically everyday, fight with Ukyo to get okonomiyaki from her. Ukyo says it's stealing. Ranma thinks she's giving the okonomiyaki to him because she draws pictures on them with sauce. Ukyo's father offers her to Genma to be Ranma's fiancée. At first, Genma disagrees and tells him that Ranma already has a fiancée. Ukyo's father says it's too bad, he was going to offer the okonomiyaki cart as the dowry. Genma immediately says that he'll consider it... Later, Genma asks Ranma which he liked better, Ukyo or okonomiyaki. Ranma, who was then a naive kid who didn't even know Ukyo's true gender, replied, smiling: "OKONOMIYAKI!" And so it was settled. So Genma then goes off with Ranma, the okonomiyaki cart, but NO Ukyo. He leaves her. Ranma had no idea what really happened, he thought Ukyo was crying as they left because she'll miss them. But now, Ukyo preparing for revenge...

Shamed and ridiculed by her peers, Ukyo decided she wouldn't like boys forever, dressed and lived as one, and devoted herself to okonomiyaki style martial arts. She focused on getting revenge on Ranma and his father.

When she finally found Ranma and Genma, she attended Furinkan High School, where Ranma also studies, and challenges him to a fight. Apparently, Ranma STILL had no idea what REALLY happened before, and talks to Ukyo like an old friend. He also refuses to fight Ukyo seriously because they were friends. Later, during the fight, Ranma finds out Ukyo's true gender in a very embarrassing way. He even thought at first that Ukyo also fell into the springs...Then, Genma comes and told everybody the truth. Of course, Tendo Akane and Ranma get mad at him. ANOTHER FIANCEE?!

When Ukyo discovers that Ranma does not get along with Akane (which Ranma, by the way, introduced to her as his "uncute" fiancée), they reconcile and she falls in love with him. But, unluckily for her, he just treats her as an old friend and "one of the guys."

Ukyo is the least pushy of the fiancées. She tries very hard to think up plans to get Ranma to treat her as his fiancée (and these plans are good!), But still, she can't get him.

Like almost everybody else, Ukyo has a suitor herself. Kurenai Tsubasa, Ukyo's classmate in Junior High. Tsubasa is prettty much obssessed with Ukyo. But there's something really strange about Tsubasa...

You can usually see her wearing a bandoleer of small spatulas and a huge spatula on her back. She uses these, and other cooking materials)as her weapons. She throws the small sharpened spatulas with pinpoint accuracy. Once, she even threw exploding bags of powder.

She uses Kansai dialect (ex. "da" replaced with "ya", "-sen" -> "-hen", uses "uchi" instead of "watashi", says "ooki ni" for "thank you").

Notes about the name

Usually, Ranma calls her 'Ucchan' like he did when they were still kids. But her name really means:
Kuonji "eternal temple"
Ukyo "right of Kyoto/capital"
