KUNO TATEWAKI

The conceited, stupid, and delusional sempai of Ranma and Akane, and a classmate of Nabiki. He is also the class president at Furinkan High School. He ruled that anyone who would date Akane must first defeat her. At the start of the series, Akane defeats their attempts every morning. He is extremely egotistic and calls himself "the Blue Thunder of Furinkan High". When Ranma beat him in a fight as a boy, he can't accept it and says that Ranma is a coward; and when he beat him as a girl, he fell in love with Ranma and called him his "pig-tailed girl". Kuno cannot accept failure. He even thought that when a girl challenges him to a fight, the girl wants to go out with him.

Hating Ranma for being too close to both Akane and the pony-tailed girl, he agonizes over which girl he loves more (which Nabiki capitalizes on).

He is so stupid that he hasn't figured out that the 2 Ranmas are one, even though he sometimes sees Ranma turn into a girl and back in front of him. Also, Nabiki and Ranma try constantly to tell him about the situation. Nabiki told him that Ranma-chan's body and soul are all Ranma-kun's. Kuno takes it the wrong way. He thinks that Ranma is an enslaver of women (get what I mean?). Talk about stupid.

His sister, Kodachi, "the Black Rose ", is also very stupid. She is an insane girl who's in love with Ranma.

His father, Principal Kuno, is (obviously) the principal of Furinkan High who abandoned him when he was still very young.

The Kuno family is from samurai lineage, and is therefore rich. They have the Kuno mansion, where Ranma and Akane are sometimes invited to.

Although Kuno is stupid, he is sometimes a nice guy, especially in front of Ranma-chan and Akane, though still as proud as ever. Also, when Ranma-chan or Akane is in trouble, he tries to help, although his efforts have only a bit or no effect at all.

Kuno frequently spouts bad poetry, swings his bokken when his ego is slightly hurt, and is in samurai outfit if not in his school uniform. And yes, he wears the uniform, unless when he wants to fight, unlike Ranma who doesn't wear the uniform at all.

Notes about the name

In episode 2, Nabiki puns on his name by writing it with the kanji "no ability/competence". But his name really means
Kuno "9 abilities"
Tatewaki "belt sword; bringing a sword"

As I said before, he calls himself "Aoi Ikazuchi" or Blue Thunder, while his father calls him Tatchi. The everybody else calls him Kuno-sempai, except for Ranma when he's in guy form. I don't know why, but he refuses to. I also don't know why (or it's just my imagination), but in the 2nd movie "Nihao my Concubine", Ranma-kun yelled "sempai!"
