Mozenrath is one of the villains Aladdin faces on the hit TV show, Disney's Aladdin. The fan sites for this character and the following behind him is truly phenomenal. The Aladdin viewers have spoken: We want more Mozenrath! Many of his episodes are among the most brilliant that the series provides, while others annoyingly hide Mozenrath away from us until the end or for brief bouts.

The character is voiced by Jonathan Brandis (Lady Bugs and SeaQuest). Character design by Paul Felix. The appearance of the character is very intimidating; he actually looks a great deal like Aladdin, with a lighter complexion, an impressive clothing ensemble, and a painful, magical Gauntlet on his right hand. Mozenrath's confidant is an eel named Xerxes (voiced by Frank Welker), who assists his young ward in shady ventures.

What makes Mozenrath so compelling? Probably first that the character breaks out of villain stereotypes: unattractive, gullible, ambiguous origin, ambiguous motives, and the source of their humor is their own obvious stupidity. Mozenrath, however, is highly intelligent, witty, adaptive, and obviously, he's very attractive. His complexity makes him a show-stealer. When he is on the screen, it's no longer an episode of Aladdin, it's an episode of Mozenrath. Second, his mindset is imaginative and engrossing. Mozenrath is not just some pampered princeling; he has clearly fought for everything that he has. At one time, he was an apprentice (probably closer to a servant or slave) of Destane. From what we know of him, Destane was a magician so ruthless, "even Jafar steered clear of him". It is conceivable that Destane has poisoned the young man's mind. Nevertheless, Mozenrath is not a depressing character, as he still likes a good laugh and enjoys persuing his goals. But the episodes have characterized him as an enemy with secrets.

While the other villains are foil characters, Mozenrath stands alone as someone extraordinary, a personality to be reckoned with. Perhaps the pull of this character is that he is as three-dimensional as the stars of the series, if not more so.
