Who Is Jesus?

Jesus is the Son of the Living God.

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God"
(John 1:1)

"We have seen His glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father,
full of Grace and Truth"
(John 1:14)

Isaiah's Messianic Prophecies:

In the Old Testament, Isaiah looked across the centuries and saw the coming Messiah.
Of all great Hebrew prophets, Isaiah has given us the most complete picture of the history, mission, titles, and characteristics of Christ.

The history of Christ:
Isaiah 7:14 which talks about His birth.
In chapter 11:1, it talks about His family, and His anointing is found in Isaiah 11:2.

Mission of Christ:
Isaiah 9:2 talks about the Illuminator; chapter 11:3 talks about the Judge; 11:4 Reprover; 42:4 Law-giver; 42:7 Liberator; 53:4 Burden-bearer; 53:5 Suffering Savior; 53:6 Sin-barer; and 53:12 Intercessor.

Titles of Christ:
Isaiah 7:14 talks about His being Immanuel; 9:6 Mighty God; 9:6 Everlasting Father; 9:6 Prince of Peace; 32:1 Righteous King; 42:1 Divine Servant; 53:1 Arm of the Lord; 61:1 Anointed Preacher; and 63:1 Mighty Savior.

Characteristics of Christ
Isaiah 9:2; 42:6 talks about His Radiance; 11:2 Wisdom; 11:3 Spiritual Discernment; 11:4 Justice; 11:5 Righteousness; 42:2; 53:7 Silence; 42:3 Gentleness; 42:4 Preseverance; 52:14; 53:10 Vicarious Suffering; 53:4 Compassion; 53:7 Meekness; 53:9 Sinlessness; 53:11 Saving Power and 53:12 Greatness.

Jesus Christ is the Messiah.

He fulfilled God's promises and purposes for His people.
Christ (Greek christos) translates Messiah (Hebrew messias.
God the Father testified to His Son. (Luke 3:22; John 5:31-40)
He was what God's people should have expected Messiah to be.
He did what Scripture said Messiah would do.

Jesus was a human led by the Spirit.
He was born to a human mother through the Spirit.
His human ancestry reached back to David, Abraham, and Adam.
(Matthew 1:1-17, Luke 3:23-38) He grew and learned as a human, obeying His human parents. He knew human hunger, thirst, and pain. Led by the Spirit, He endured Satan's temptation. He died and was buried like all humans. He did not simply die a natural death. He was the victim of a ritual murder carried out by the authorities of Rome, engineered by the pious religious leaders of Jersalem, but made necessary by the sins of all who ever lived or will live. Jesus' humanity, including His sacrificial death, was a major stumbling block for Israel; but it was the way God determined to fulfill His eternal purpose of salvation and blessing.

The earliest Christian confession was, "Jesus Is Lord". Lord shows Jesus' worth as equal to God. Why is He Lord? Because God exalted Him in the resurrection. No other religion can duplicate the powerful experience of the resurrection. The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the event that unites all aspects of the Christian gospel, and Jesus Christ provides its firm foundation.

Jesus' resurrection did not separate Him from us. He ascended to be with the Father, so that He could send the Holy Spirit to be with each of us. (Acts 1:9) (John 16:5-16)

In Him God's kingdom was present. On the cross the nature of His kingly rule was fully revealed. When Jesus comes again the kingdom will be fully established. The final coming of Christ will fulfill divine promise and prediction. Its time is unknown, but it should not surprise God's people. We are to be ready for Him to come for us.
The same Jesus who ascended will return.

His return will bring an end to the struggle of good and evil, the battles among the kingdoms of this world that must become the kingdom of our God and of His Christ. (Revelations 11:15)
We must join the chorus praising the humble Son of Man,
who is also the final Judge and King.
