Daniel and the Lion's Den Daniel was a very wise man.He loved God very much and always obeyed and trusted Him.Because Daniel was such a good person, the king had him ruleover all the princes of the land with 2 other presidents. The princes tricked the king into throwing Daniel into the lions den.But no wound of any kind was found on Daniel, because he believed in God.The king was very glad, because he loved Daniel. The king had the princes who tricked him thrown into the den.The lions broke all their bones into pieces. David and Goliath Long before Mary and Joseph or Jesus were born, God said to Samuel, His priest, "Put oil in your horn, and go now and find the Bethlehem boy I have in mind to be king of My people someday." It was in the home of Jesse that Samuel went. After meeting and greeting his sons, he asked: "Are there more?" And so Jesse sent to the fields for his youngest, David the shepherd bot, handsome and strong. God said to Samuel: "You are looking for one to be king - this is he! Take Holy oil, anoint him for Me!" Nobody knew except God and His Holy man, Samuel, what this would do. Alone on the hills, he had to keep lions and bears from stealing his sheep, and the Spirit of God gave him such courage and might that the wildest of creatures he dared fight! There was at that time a long war. The Philistine army and the Israelites, under King Saul, camped on two mountains. Each morning a Philistine giant, Goliath of Gath, came down in the Valley of Elah to call "Is there any man who will fight against me?" I shall chop off his head and cut up his body like bread to toss to the beast and the birds! Who will dare?" Goliath the gaint put fear in each Israelite heart with this shout. His brass armor clinked; his long spear made even the bravest men doubt that any could fight him and win. One day the shepherd boy, David, came with cheese and some bread for his brothers who fought in Saul's army. Like the others, they ran when Goliath came down. When David saw this, he said with a frown: "Goliath makes fun of our God! Does no one believe that the Lord takes care of His armies in need?" "I will fight this giant myself!" King Saul heard of David's brave words. He sent for the boy and he smiled. "You are hardly more than a child! Goliath knows all about war! What are you offering for?" Said David: "Out in the field when either a lion or bear tried to steal my father's young sheep, my God helped me fight with him there. I know in this battle God will shield and deliver me still!" Saul put his armor on David: "Here is my coat of mail... my helmet... my very own sword. Go! In the name of the Lord!" But Saul's armor was heavy; he fell. "I cannot wear them, O King! I am used to only a sling!" With his sling and his shepherd's crook David stopped to search at the brook for some stones. With these in his bag, he went on to the place where Goliath of Gath made the Israelites tremble in fear. "Who is there?" roared Goliath. His shield bearer stood before him, but he was still able to see. David the shepherd boy. And with a sneer and a laugh that was cruel, Goliath drew near. "Why do you pick such a boy for this fight? Am I but a dog to be chased with a stick? Come! I will throw all your bones to the birds of the air and the beast of the field!" David reached for the stones. "Your spear is sharp, long and strong; your shield is great and heavy too. There is one reason that I came. You mock the Lord and ... in His name I have power to conquer you!" David's hand dipped in his bag. Before Goliath had time to see he put a stone in his sling and - WHEE! It hit the Philistine in the head; he staggered, then fell forward - Goliath was dead! David ran with a glorious shout and took the giant's heavy sword and cut off his head. Soon the word spread through the Philistine camp. The men raced hard to get away. The Israelites were close behind the Philistines and so many died that day of the Philistine's army. Triumphantly they marched to bring the battle news and Goliath's head to Saul, the waiting king, who said: "Your strength from God, O David, wins Israel this victory; my army needs such bravery!" From that day on young David stayed at court with Saul, who knew he'd need a captain who was strong to lead his men in other battles too. This army training helped him grow to be, in time, God's chosen king - he who once had been a boy who killed a giant with a sling! Jonah and the Whale God was telling Jonah, "I have for you a mission. Jonah, go to Ninevah and fix a bad condition." "The people there are sinning. They don't know right from wrong. They need someone to warn them whose faith is strong." "They're strangers to you, Jonah, but help them mend their ways, or their wickedness will bring despair in forty days." Thought Jonah, "I don't like them. I won't warn them. I won't go. I'd rather disobey and hide then help people I don't know!" So jonah tried to run from God. He paid to take a ride on board a great big sailing ship with space where he could hide. But Jonah couldn't hide from God. For God is everywhere. When Jonah hid beneath the deck, God found him hiding there. God sent a wind that caused a storm that rocked the ship at sea. And all the sailors on the ship were frightened as can be. Back and forth the ship rocked. It almost broke in two. The captain went to Jonah and asked him what to do. Jonah said, "I ran away and disobeyed the Lord. It's me He wants to punish, so throw me overboard." The sailors didn't want to do as jonah said they should do. The storm kept growing worse and worse as jonah knew it would. To calm the storm, the sailors had to follow Jonah's wish. They threw him in the sea... and then God sent a great big fish, a whale. The great whale swallowed Jonah as he sank into the sea. "Oh me," thought jonah, "What will become of me?" Inside the whale's belly all alone and scared he stayed. For three long days and nights Jonah prayed and prayed. Jonah asked God to forgive him for running far away. For jonah knew that it was wrong to ever disobey God. He thanked God for His mercy. He thanked God for His care. And from the bottom of the sea, God heard his every word. God had the whale to blow Jonah out safe upon the shore. God told Jonah he should go to Ninevah once more. This time Jonah minded God. To ninevah he went. He warned, "You all have forty days in which to repent!" The people there all listened. They repented, every one. God forgave and spared them when He saw what they had done. But Jonah wasn't pleased at all, for he had no pity and wasn't happy that he helped the people save their city. Jonah sat down in the sun and next to him, God made a lovely plant that grew and grew and offered Jonah shade. The next day God destroyed the plant that Jonah learned to love. Jonah questioned why God did this and God answered from above: "You felt pity for the plant that lived for one short day. Isn't ninevah far greater than a plant in every way?" "That city's filled with people who were wicked and were bad. They were sorry and repented and that made me very glad." The Jonah finally understood, for in his heart he knew that God is merciful and wise and all forgiving too. God has mercy and has pity and loves us with endless love! The Widow's Offering Jesus saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. "I tell you the truth,"He said, "this poor widow has put in more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had." The Woman Who Touched The Hem of His Garment One day a ruler of the people named Jairus came to Jesus and told him, "My little daughter is sick and she is about to die. Please come to my house and pray for her so that she does not die." Jesus agreed to go to Jairus' house to pray for the little dying girl. On the way to Jairus' house a great many people crowded around Jesus, asking Him to touch them so that they might be healed of their sicknesses. Jesus had become famous throughout the land of Judea because he healed sick people with His word and even raised the dead. On the edges of the crowd on that hot day was a woman who had been sick and bleeding for eighteen years. She had been to see many doctors who had taken much money for their treatment. Still she became ever sicker until she was about to die. She had heard about Jesus and thought that if she could just get to Him she would be healed. Nevertheless, Jesus was in the middle of a great crowd of yelling and pushing people who were trying to get to Jesus for their own needs. According to the laws of the land it was illegal for a woman who was bleeding to allow others to touch her. If they touched her they had to go through an elaborate cleansing process. If she pushed through that crowd to get to Jesus it would be necessary for her to jostle against other people. How angry they would become if she touched them. She walked yearningly around the edge of the crowd. How she wished that she could get to Jesus. Maybe this would be her only chance. Perhaps she would be too sick to come outside if she waited any longer. The longer she watched and listened to Jesus teach the more she became convinced that she would be healed if she could touch Him. Even if she just could touch the border of His robe she was sure that she would be healed of this terrible sickness that made her feel so weak and tired that she thought she soon would die. Suddenly she made up her mind to get to Jesus no matter what other people thought. She got down to her hands and knees and crawled through the crowd of people on that dusty road. People pushed and stepped on her hands. She refused to give up. She kept crawling through the dust, finally stretching out her hand toward the hem of Jesus' robe. With trembling fingertips at last she was able to touch the bottom of the hem. Immediately she felt in her body that she was healed. "Who touched me,:" Jesus called out. "What do you mean, who touched you," replied Jesus' followers. There are people everywhere jostling and pushing against you. Many people are touching you" "No, someone touched me with the hand of faith, for I felt power going from my body into another." Trembling and afraid, the woman fell down at the feet of Jesus and said, "It was I who touched you, Master. I have been sick and bleeding for eighteen years and I knew that if I just touched the hem of your garment I should be healed. I have touched your garment, and now I am healed.!" Jesus gazed at the woman with compassion and replied, "Daughter, your faith has made you whole. Go in peace and be whole of your disease." From that time the woman was completely healed and continued to praise and worship God for His goodness to her. Jesus continued on to Dairus' house only to find that Dairus' daughter already had died. Jesus commanded everyone to leave the room except for the parents of the dead little girl. Jesus then stretched out His hand and said, "Little girl, arise." Immediately the little girl's spirit returned to her body and she opend her eyes. She sat up in bed, brought back from the dead and completely healed. Jesus had answered the prayers of Jairus. © 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 jlc@ix.netcom.com Home | Bible Stories 1 | This page hosted by Get your own Free Home Page

© 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 jlc@ix.netcom.com Home | Bible Stories 1 |
The Woman Who Touched The Hem of His Garment
One day a ruler of the people named Jairus came to Jesus and told him, "My little daughter is sick and she is about to die. Please come to my house and pray for her so that she does not die." Jesus agreed to go to Jairus' house to pray for the little dying girl.
