Agility is a sport for both purebred
and mixed breed dogs. While we will be training on AKC equipment with a
focus on AKC rules, there are organizations such as USDAA, NADAC and UKC that
also welcome both pure breed and mixed breed dogs. If you are interested
in either of the latter organizations, please let us know and we will help you
train for their competitions. (Pedigree also sponsors a competition that
welcomes both pure and mixed breeds.) You and your dog can also enjoy the
sport of Agility without competing, as pets benefit from spending quality time
with their owners and everyone can gain from the exercise, fun and companionship
that Agility provides.
Your instructors are Jean
Crouthamel and Clyde Klosson.
Jean is a member of USDAA and has been doing agility since 1997.
She is actively competing with three dogs at the Masters level in
gamblers, pair relay, jumpers & snookers. All three of Jean's dogs are
rescues, and each has presented totally different training challenges.
Jean trains her dogs and teaches using the positive motivation technique,
utilizing food and toys as rewards. Her dogs are:
-
a 9 year old Jack Russell Terrier named Bandit MAD, JM, PD3
-
a 7 year old Sheltie named Casey, MAD, JM
-
a 4 year old Border Collie named Zen MAD, SM, JM, GM.
Jean has competed on several different dog agility masters teams. She
qualified for team finals in 1999 and 2000; and in 2002 she qualified with two
different teams with her newest dog, Zen. She placed 6th in Round 2 of the
Grand Prix Super Regional in 2002, which gave her a bye into the semi-final
round at the finals in Texas. |
