Washu is one of the more inscrutable characters in the Tenchi series; flipping from cackling mad scientist to sharp-witted genius in an instant. In the OVA series, she is a 20,000-year-old scientist. There are many difference in the history of Washu in the OVa series she created Ryouko, Ryo-Ohki, and Kagato's ship. She was Kagato's teacher before he turned to evil, had a husband and child, and is one of the three goddeses depending on if they have a third OVA we will see that. In Tenchi Universe she is a professor at the Galactic Academy which was exiled 700 years for her work was considered too dangerous. In Tenchi in Tokyo she is a renegade Scientist who was hired by Ryouko to help her steal a precious artifact from planet Jurai. In all cases she is considered the finest scientific mind in the galaxy, if not the universe. Her lab is located in another dimension where she resides but her door way is closet under the stairs in the Masaki Home. Her genius with all things scientific means that she can be very useful when it comes to repairing spaceships, but some of her inventions and experiments can be extremely dangerous. Her relationship with Tenchi in the OVA is an odd one; she admires him for his incredible powers, and enjoys experimenting on him to find out what causes them, but she also has something of a soft spot for him in all series.
