Interview
I, Kohl Hetrick, interviewed Elder Amos Lashley (from now on be
mentioned as Elder Lashley), a minister in my local religious congregation. I
asked a few questions on what our Christian bible says about witchcraft and
other related topics. I’ve taken down the questions that I asked and his
responses below.
- Kohl – What is the viewpoint that is presented in the bible on witches
and witchcraft?
- Elder Lashley – Well, our bible definitely frowns upon it and finds it to
be pagan acts, and a source of doing the Devil’s work. It also gives a
description of what witches and their practices are. At 2CH 33:6 it says,
“He himself … practiced magic and used divination and practiced sorcery and
made spiritistic mediums and professional foretellers of events. He did on a
grand scale what was bad in the eyes of Jehovah, to offend him.” This shows
that God is against sorcery and things related; and one would do these things
to displease him.
- Kohl – So, does God say what he will do to these practicers?
- Elder Lashley – Yeah, in Micah 5:12 God declares “And I will cut off
sorceries out of your hand, and no practicers of magic will you continue to
have.” Here God says that he will rid of sorceries and sorcerers.
- Kohl - How does the bible describe sorcerers?
- Elder Lashley - Well they’re practicers of evil magic. But they receive
their powers of practicing magic through influence and help through demons
and the Devil. They can’t do spiritistic works without the help of a demon of
the Devil.
- Kohl - How has sorcerers tried to decieve or hurt others
- Elder Lashley - In the past there were prophets who were inspired by
God to foretell the future. But there were also a few who pretended to be
prophets and tried to mislead people from God’s true way.
