8. The Realities of Sustainability. |
||
The blue movement has put forward a
wide range of suggestions about what needs to be done to reduce environmental damage
and to create what it incomprehensively calls sustainability. This article is
intended to summarize the limits of blues’ policies.
8.1: Overview of Green Capabilities.
The Conservation of Resources.
The conservation of resources by itself cannot reduce
overall Carbon emissions and combat global burning because consumers/businesses
spend the money saved on other resources. It has been argued, "Most
industrial nations are still hugely wasteful in their use of energy and
have great potential both to conserve energy and generate it in ways that
are less damaging to the environment."[3] If industries
make more profits by conserving resources they’ll just spend these profits
on more Earth wrecking activities.
Energy Efficiency.
Similarly, energy efficiency by itself cannot
combat global burning because the money saved will also be spent on other
pollution emitting commodities. If individuals increase their domestic
energy efficiency, they will use the money saved to buy bigger cars. If
the world’s biggest Earth-rapist corporations become more energy efficient
this enables them to make bigger profits and invest even more resources
in the destruction of the Earth’s life support system, “Using energy more
efficiently, however, may not be enough. As john houghton says .. “our
energy use itself would also have to go down enormously over the next
fifty years.”[4]
Even amory lovins admits that energy efficiency alone cannot combat global
burning, “Even the factor four transition in energy productivity will
not be sufficient to halt global warming.”[5] The only circumstances under which the conservation
resources/energy could work is when the global economy is in recession.
Technologies for Reducing Carbon
Emissions do not Work.
Many blues support the
introduction of pollution-reduction technologies but, in many cases, such
technologies do not reduce pollution. Many only ensure a greater dispersal of
pollution e.g. smokestacks. At worst, they increase pollution e.g. catalytic
converters.
Environmental Taxes.
The money raised through
environmental taxes to curb Carbon emissions has to be spent on reducing
atmospheric pollution (or restoring the Earth’s life support system) or it will
end up being used to promote policies that increase pollution or ecological
devastation.
In brutland in the 1990s, the
tory and labour government raised environmental taxes but spent the money on
non-environmental issues. It seemed as if the labour government was getting
away with this fraud until, in the late 1990s, pharmers, and their blue allies,
triggered off widespread opposition to fuel taxes forcing the government to
abandon the fuel duty escalator. The legacy of such protests is that the
prospects for new environmental taxes are now very bleak, “The protests may not
lead to any fuel tax reductions, but they have certainly driven a stake through
the heart of any new proposals for British, or indeed European, carbon or
energy taxes. This is causing consternation among Britain's environmental
organisations, which have long been wedded to the belief that only dramatically
higher energy taxes could save the planet from the ravages of climate change.
They have praised Brown's green credentials, and relentlessly criticized Blair
for his lack of interest in environmental matters. Much of the British
environmental movement's political strategy has been based on working with
Brown to promote a shift from taxing "goods", such as capital and
labour, to taxing "bads", such as pollution and resource consumption.
This strategy now lies in ruins. As the public has quite rightly discerned, the
fuel duty escalator was always a revenue-raising device. It might have helped
to maintain the green fig leaf for this tax had any of the £10bn in additional
taxes extracted from us actually been spent on the environment.”
This situation is not
irretrievable. If politicians promised to show the environmental benefits that
could be achieved through environmental taxes then more people would support such
policies. The fact that such taxes are so open to abuse by governments means
they are unlikely to be the best instruments to use to protect the environment.
Recycling.
Recycling by itself cannot create
a sustainable planet. Indeed, if an attempt is made to recycle the currently
excessive amounts of commodities being consumed and dumped around the Earth this
will cause additional ecological damage to the Earth’s life sustaining
processes.
Green Energy.
It is quite true that green
energy does not release the same quantities of greenhouse gases as fossil fuels
but it does cause a great deal of geophysiological damage to the Earth’s
Photosynthetic capacity which also boosts global burning. It is possible that green
energy could be as geophysiologically damaging as fossil fuels. Basically a
society which relies solely on green energy is just a fossil fuelled society
without the fossil fuels.
Stabilizing Greenhouse Gas Emissions is
not going to combat Global Burning.
One of the main aims of the Earth summit meetings
since 1990 has been to persuade all countries to stabilize their greenhouse
gas emissions at 1990 levels. Very few countries have achieved this. Even
worse is that, "Stabilizing global emissions would not prevent disruption
of the climate. Emissions of CO2 are already higher than the
forests and oceans can absorb. According to John Houghton .. "stabilizing
emissions of CO2 is of little help in the critical task of
stabilizing concentrations of the gas in the atmosphere. To do that at
current levels would require an overnight cut in emissions of 60%."[6]
Dramatic reductions in Greenhouse Gas
Emissions are not going to combat Global Burning.
Reducing anthropogenic emissions of
greenhouse gases into the atmosphere would reduce the increasing rate of
climatic destabilization but it would not stabilize the climate. This policy
can’t halt, let alone reverse, global burning because it can’t remove the
Carbon currently in the atmosphere. Indeed, if Forests continue to be chopped
down or razed then reductions in anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions wouldn't
even slow the momentum of global burning.
Conclusions.
None of the above blue policies
is going to stop pollution nor the damage being inflicted on the Earth’s Photosynthetic
capacity both of which are destabilizing the climate and undermining the
Earth’s life support system. Reforestation is imperative for combating global
burning and stabilizing the climate. Although it cannot stabilize the climate
by itself, without such a policy there is no chance of extracting greenhouse
gases from the atmosphere. Without Reforestation, carried out in conjunction
with some of the policies highlighted above, there is no chance of stabilizing
the climate. The main priority is getting Carbon out of the atmosphere.
8.2: The Biggest Earth-Wrecking Industry.
The most critical of the
policies needed to stabilize the climate is the abolition of the Animal
exploitation industry because this would:-
* dramatically reduce the vast
quantities of greenhouse gases it is releasing into the atmosphere;
* dramatically reduce the vast
amounts of damage it is doing to the Earth’s Photosynthetic capacity;
* make pastureland available for
Reforestation in order to extract Carbon from the atmosphere. And,
* permit land
redistribution which is essential to the creation of a fairer society both for
the world's poor and the Earth's Wildlife.
There is no possibility of
creating a sustainable Planet without a fundamental revolution in landownership
in every country around the world in order to create a threefold division of
land:
* regional Wood economies for the
benefit of oomans;
* climate Forests; and,
* ooman-free Wilderness
areas in which Animals would be free from ooman persecution.
The change in the structure of land usage
means the expropriation of land from all large landowners i.e. the ruling
elites of virtually every nation on Earth.
8.3: There is no point in supporting any
Green Policy without abolishing the Biggest Earth Wrecking Industry.
The biggest contributor to the
devastation of the Earth’s life support system, and thus the destabilization of
the climate, is the Animal exploitation industry. It is far and away the
biggest contributor to global burning. As a consequence, there is no other
single act which could make such a profound difference to restoring the Earth’s
life support system and thus stabilizing the climate, than the abandonment of
the Animal exploitation industry thereby allowing pastureland to revert back to
Forests. Forget about alternative/green energy, recycling, the conservation of
resources, energy conservation, energy efficiency, pollution reduction,
environmentally-friendly catalytic converters, green transport, green cars,
biodegradable materials, living in harmony with nature, etc, because there is
absolutely no point in pursuing any of these policies unless society bans the
exploitation of Animals. They are all insignificant policies which could be
implemented, at leisure, after the abolition of the Animal exploitation
industry.
Correspondingly, by far and away the single most important
measure any individual can take to save the Earth is to give up eating
meat. As lawrence e joseph has argued, “The most important practical difference
between Gaia and mainstream environmental policy is in its emphasis on
the evils of agriculture over those of industry, since deforestation for
the purpose of food cultivation is what most immediately threatens the
tropical rainforests and the warm coastal seas that surround them.”[7]; “Getting rid
of cattle is one of the most important Gaian steps of all.”[8]
Even non-geophysiologists such a krause, bach & koomey point out that,
"The greatest change in the terrestrial biospheric carbon reservoir
occurs through human agricultural activity. This activity can be broadly
defined as the transformation of forests into non-forests for pasture
or crop production purposes."[9] The Animal exploitation industry’s destabilization of the climate
is so substantial there is no point in individuals doing anything to ‘save
the environment’ if they don't give up eating meat.
There is not the slightest hope of
combating global burning, stabilizing the climate, abolishing poverty or
creating a sustainable planet, without abolishing the slave pharming industry
and allowing pastureland to revert back to Forests. If this is not done then
environmentalists might as well forget about protecting the environment and
just go out and party as much as they can before the collapse of the Earth’s
life sustaining processes.
The touchstone for any government policy
purporting to save the planet is the degree to which it dismantles the world’s
Animal slavery industry and allows the land to revert back to Forests. All else
is irrelevant. All other environmental policies are so superficial they cannot
provide any protection for the Earth’s life sustaining processes. The only
purpose of such policies is to enable so-called greens i.e. blues, to convince people
they are doing something to protect the environment when all they are doing is
covering up the damage which the pharming industry is inflicting on the Earth's
Photosynthetic capacity and thus destabilizing the climate.
In other words, if people aren’t prepared
to become vegans they should forget about green politics. It is not possible to
create a sustainable planet until the bulk of the six billion oomans become
vegans. If people aren't prepared to become a vegan they shouldn't bother about
green politics.
8.4: The Changes Needed for the Creation
of a Sustainable Planet.
In order to create a
sustainable planet fundamental social, political, and cultural, revolutions
need to be implemented:
* the abolition of the Animal
exploitation industry;
* the expropriation of land
belonging to large landowners;
* dramatic reductions in the
Earth’s ooman population;
* the abolition of capitalism
i.e. continual economic growth and expansionism;
* the abolition of money and its
replacement by a sustainable global currency - Carbon;
* the abolition of global poverty
and the divide between the rich world and the poor world;
* the abandonment of the
cultural belief in anthropocentrism i.e. ooman-imperialism, and the adoption of
a planetary perspective in which life is valued according to the degree to
which it contributes to the stabilization of the climate.
8.5: Oomans’ Opposition to a Planetary
Revolution: There's no Prospect of oomans creating a sustainable Planet.
Oomans are currently acting like
eco-nazis consuming products derived from the world's concentration and
extermination camps. They are expropriating all Wildlife habitats around the
Earth leading to the extermination of more and more Wildlife species. The
expropriation process has become so destructive it is causing the sixth
biggest, mass extermination of Biodiversity ever witnessed during the planet’s
four billion year history and, in the process, destroying their own life
support system.
There is no prospect of oomans creating
a sustainable Planet because:
* they have no understanding of
the Earth’s life support system;
* they have no definition of
sustainability;
* they have no vision of a
sustainable planet;
* they refuse to measure the
devastation they are inflicting on the Earth's life sustaining processes;
* they refuse to accept that the
Animal slavery industry is the biggest cause of geophysiological devastation
and insist on blaming industries of secondary significance such as the fossil
fuel, chemical, and nuclear power, industries;
* they refuse to overthrow the
Animal slavery industry which is primarily responsible for global burning and
the devastation of the Earth;
* they refuse to become vegans;
* they refuse to take the
necessary measures to discourage people from becoming obese as a result of the
meat and dairy industries In other words, ‘fat is a geophysiological issue’.
Unless measures are taken to counter obesity there is no way of creating a
sustainable planet;
* they refuse to overthrow the
ruling, landowning, pharming elites which dominate the domestic political
systems of virtually every country around the world. The world's pharming
elites use their political power to steal taxpayers' money, in the form of
public subsidies, which are used to finance pharming methods which further
exacerbate global burning and increase the devastation of the Earth. One of the
reasons the so-called green movement refuses to expropriate big landowners is
because leading greens belong to the landowning elites.
* they refuse to expropriate
large landowners in order to redesignate the land firstly, as climate Forests (to
stabilize the climate); secondly, ooman-free Wilderness areas; and, thirdly,
regional Wood economies in which the poor have access to land - this
redistribution to take place in accordance with each country’s Carbon budget.
* they refuse to replace national
currencies with a global Carbon currency - which would limit
individuals/countries from buying vast quantities of fossil fuels and releasing
correspondingly vast quantities of greenhouse gases.
* they refuse to abolish the
institutions which deal in national currencies i.e. banks and stock exchanges;
* they refuse to abolish the
financial wealth of the global elite i.e. stocks and shares, etc - which would
be irrelevant on a sustainable planet.
* they refuse to abolish exploitative
global institutions such as the world terrorist organization, the world bank,
the general agreement on trade and tariffs (gatt), the international monetary
fund, etc;
* they refuse to abolish
capitalism;
* they refuse to ban war (and
most of the military-industrial complex) by establishing a system of global
security for all nations and all peoples (including the palestinians and the
kurds);
* they refuse to ban alternative
energy in order to rely primarily on renewable energy/resources such as Wood;
* they refuse to abandon
oomano-racism; oomano-imperialism; eco-nazism i.e. anthropocentrism, in favour
of geocentrism which evaluates species according to their Earth value i.e.
their contribution to the stability of the Earth’s climate.
The creation of a sustainable planet
requires fundamental economic, social, political, and cultural, revolutions the
likes of which have never been imagined before let alone tried. But, oomans
will fail to bring about any one of these revolutions. There are a multitude of
obstacles in the way of oomans bringing about any of these revolutions. Perhaps
the biggest is the fact that the time needed to re-educate corporate livestock
consumers into becoming planetary beings is now greater than the time left
before a major geophysiological disaster. There is no point in carrying out
environmental reforms to this system other than as stepping stones to the even
bigger revolution that is needed i.e. the overthrow of the ruling, domestic,
landowning, pharming, elites. There is no way of reforming oomano-imperialists
to take care of the Earth.
8.6: The need for a Crash in Ooman
Civilization.
The scale of the revolutions
needed to create a sustainable planet are so wide-ranging, and oomans’ ignorance
of, and opposition to, such revolutions are so deeply entrenched, there is not
the slightest prospect of oomans creating a sustainable planet. The vast
majority of landowners and the global rich have a vested interest in maintaining
their privileges which means the continued devastation of the Earth’s life
support system. They would oppose such revolutions. They prefer to profit from
oomans’ wrecking of the Earth’s life support system for oomans, rather than
relinquishing their vested interests. There is no hope of creating a
sustainable planet when the Earth is dominated by eco-nazis.
8.7: A New Ooman Civilization will be as
Bad as the old one.
There is only one possibility for creating a sustainable
planet and that is after a geophysiological crash which sweeps away capitalism,
national/global institutions, and wipes out vast numbers of oomans. It
is possible this crash could be so severe it would lead to the annihilation
of all oomans. If it doesn’t, the oomans who survive will need to dramatically
transform their attitudes if they are not to repeat the same mistakes.
They will need to learn from this geophysiological disaster. However,
it is all too likely they won’t. It is much more likely that oomans will
continue to act like the terrorists they have always been. Dr strangelove’s
military advisors, living safely deep underground in huge bunkers, warned
that after the first nuclear war with russia, the only people likely to
survive would be those living in mineshafts. They were worried that the
russians had more mineshafts than the americans and that as a result a
'mineshafts gap' was opening up between the russians and the americans
which would allow the russians to continue waging nuclear war against
america. Perhaps it might be as well to bring this story up to date. As
global burning causes the melting of glaciers so new Grasslands are beginning
to emerge. Rather than learn from the damage that global burning is causing,
people are all too likely to exploit these new opportunities by promoting
the industry that is primarily responsible for global burning, "Europe's
biggest glacier is about to disintegrate. The mighty breidamerkurjokull
in southern iceland is breaking apart and will slide into the north atlantic
in the next few years. Researchers' discovery of the imminent destruction
of this gigantic river of ice demonstrates starkly that global warming
is now making a serious impact on the northern hemisphere , threatening
to melt ice caps and raise sea levels around the world. Breidamerkurjokull
is the main glacier emanating from the massive vatnajokull ice sheet that
covers much of southern iceland, and has been studied intensively for
the past century .. In the past 30 years, old farmlands have reappeared
around breidamerkurjokull .. Local people have already moved on to this
land and begun cropping grass and grazing sheep."[10] When are
these livestock loonies ever going to learn? What is so remarkable about
oomans, given their inordinate capacity for learning, is their total inability
to learn anything.
If there's a geophysiological collapse the
landowning elites, and the criminal underworld which helps to defend them, are likely
to be the main survivors so a repetition of such a disaster will be almost
inevitable. Unless a geophysiological calamity is able to remove all Earth
rapists - leaving only those who love the Earth - then the possibilities of
oomans surviving in perpetuity on this planet are negligible.
