5.1.1.1.4: Jewish/Zionist Members of pre-Bush jr American Administrations.
The following sections are provisional only. If anyone has any useful info we'd be grateful to receive it.

The Eisenhower Administration.
Ahmed Amr has stated, "In 1956, as Eisenhower was campaigning for his second term in the White House, his Secretary of State appeared before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to discuss the Arab/Israeli conflict. Kieth Kyle, the author of 'Suez', records that John Foster Dulles was 'given a sharp reminder of the domestic political dimensions of his problem' and was 'subjected to several hours of questioning. Much of it, from such pro-Zionist Democrats as Wayne Morse of Oregon and Hubert Humphery of Minnesota, was of a hostile and sardonic nature.'

Dulles responded to the Senators with a remark that still rings true today. "Our difficulty derives very largely from the fact that the Arabs believe that the United States, when it confronts problems which relate to Israel, is in the last analysis dominated by domestic political considerations". According to Kyle's well documented narrative, Dulles expressed the hope that 'in the pending political campaign the discussion will be on such a level as to dissipate the idea'.

These Senate hearings took place on February 24, 1956. Dulles was so irritated with the Zionist lobby that a few days later, on March 2, he took the extraordinary step of taking up the issue with Abba Eban, the Israeli Ambassador to the United States. Kyle narrates that in a 'bitter dressing down' of the Ambassador, the Secretary of State complained of 'the political campaign being waged by the Israelis against the administration, the paid advertisements, the mass meetings, the resolutions, the demands of Zionist organizations, the veiled threats of domestic political reprisals'.

Back in 1956, an American President could actually confront the Israeli Lobby and still win a second term in office. Today, the new political math in Washington allows Netenyahu, an Ex-Prime Minister of Israel, to publicly instruct Bush on how to properly apply the 'Bush doctrine'. And just to make sure the President learns his lessons well, Netenyahu can round up 98 Senators to his 'Amen corner'." (Ahmed Amr ‘The Israeli Lobby Is America's Third Party’ Nile Media http://www.nilemedia.com/Columnists/Ahmed/2002/June/The_Israeli.html June 06, 2002).

The Nixon Administrations: 1968-1974.
Kissinger, Henry.
Kissinger was america's foreign secretary during the nixon administration. He is a former adviser to various american governments. Professor siad once accurately described kissinger as the jewish dr strangelove. He is a war criminal who planned the carpet bombing of cambodia which led to the emergence of pol pot and the kymer rouge. Any government taking the advise of this politician surely is going to find itself mired in blood and gore.

In many ways kissinger’s career after he left office pathed the way for james rubin’s post-administration career. Rubin has been playing the role of the invisible jew in brutish politics presenting himself as an independent american politician providing independent, objective, and impartial advice about the middle east - the fact that he is a jew is never mentioned in the media because it is deemed irrelevant to his views on the middle east even though he almost invariably supports the zionist state! The brutish media used to interview kissinger in his capacity as a former advisor to american governments and never mentioned his jewishness which meant he was also able to present himself to the brutish public as just an ordinary, independent, american politician who’d studied all the facts and concluded that the zionist state was always right. See section 2.2.20: The Media’s Creation of Invisible Jews.

After the p*ny bombings, kissinger still seemed to love the flow of blood and insisted the american government should carry out serious strikes against afghanistan and other countries harbouring terrorists - with the exception of those in america and the zionist state in palestine. As a jew, he seems completely oblivious to zionist state terrorism. He believes there should be no new zionist-palestinian agreement until after america has won a decisive victory against (non-zionist) terrorism - whatever a decisive victory would look like. In the words of ariel von sharon after his reoccupation of palestine, “After we have won we shall conclude peace.” But how many palestinians would be left in palestine after the zionist conquest of palestine? In other words, only when zionists’ enemies have been defeated and deported is there any prospect of negotiations with the palestinians.

The Gerald Ford Administration: 1974-1976.
"To do so, we need to go back to 1975 and the administration of Gerald Ford. In that year, Ford, like Richard Nixon before him, tried his hand at achieving a Middle East peace settlement and was confronted with an intransigent Israeli Prime Minister Yitzak Rabin, then in his first tour of office. In March of that year, exasperated with Israel's behavior, Ford had made a speech calling for a "reassessment" of U.S. policy towards Israel. On the advice of his secretary of state, none other than Henry Kissinger, Ford "conspicuously delayed delivery of weapons to Israel, including the F-15 fighter plane [and] suspended negotiations for pending financial and military aid to Israel" Within White House circles, a consensus for a peace plan was emerging which "looked very much like UN Resolution 242 and the Rogers Plan" that would have required Israel to return to its pre-1967 borders, with provisions that its security would be guaranteed. The idea was for President Ford to make a major speech, spelling out America's basic interests in the Middle East, and those interests required Israel's withdrawal. It was not to be. As J.J. Goldberg noted in his book, Jewish Power, "Rabin and his aides entered the Kissinger negotiations as hard bargainers with a clear sense of the bottom line... And one of the most potent weapons at their disposal was the American Jewish community... "

"Two years before, after the end of what the Israelis describe as the Yom Kippur War, with an Arab oil embargo causing gasoline shortages and widespread resentment around the country, the General Assembly of the Council of Jewish Federations voted to launch an emergency public-relations campaign in behalf of Israel. It would be endowed with a $3 million emergency public-relations fund and administered by a special task force on Israel. The campaign would combine the "national clout and know-how of the major [Jewish] agencies with the local resources of the federations and community-relations councils" As Goldberg describes it, "President Ford was the first to taste its power, when he spoke about his ‘reassessment' of U.S.-Israel relations. Within six weeks, Ford gave up the idea after 76 senators signed a letter, drafted by AIPAC, demanding that he "back off." The letter's key paragraph put the president on notice that: ... within the next several weeks, the Congress expects to receive your foreign aid requests for fiscal year 1976. We trust that your recommendations will be responsive to Israel's urgent military and economic needs. We urge you to make it clear, as we do, that the United States acting in its own national interests stands firmly with Israel in searching for peace in future negotiations, and that this premise is the basis of the current reassessment of U.S. policy in the Middle East. Senator Charles Mathias, (R-MD) acknowledged that, due to lobbying pressure, "Seventy-six of us promptly affixed our signatures although no hearings had been held, no debate conducted, nor had the administration been invited to present its views. Mathias added that "as a result of the activities of the [Israel[ lobby, congressional conviction has been measurably reinforced by the knowledge that political sanctions will be applied by any who fail to deliver."[49] (Jeffrey Blankfort ‘A War for Israel’ http://www.leftcurve.org/LC28WebPages/WarForIsrael.html c.2003).

The Carter Administration: 1976-1980.

The Reagan Administrations: 1980-1988.
Abrams, Elliott.
"Abrams first gained national prominence, however, when he was appointed in 1991 by Reagan to serve as assistant secretary of state for international organizations, a spot requested on his behalf by Jean Kirkpatrick, Reagan's first UN ambassador. After Reagan failed to get Ernest Lefever confirmed as assistant secretary for human rights and humanitarian affairs, however, Abrams was put in that considerably more prominent and politically sensitive post. His tenure there was marked by frequent and angry clashes with mainstream church groups, particularly those with a large missionary presence in Central America, and prominent human rights groups, including Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International, which accused him of covering up horrendous abuses committed by US-backed governments, such as El Salvador and Guatemala, and rebel forces, such as the Nicaraguan Contras and Angola's Unita movement, while, at the same time, exaggerating abuses by US foes."

Such conflicts only became more intense after he was appointed as assistant secretary for inter-American affairs in 1985, the year in which Congress fatefully cut off aid to the Contras, thus setting the stage for what would become the Iran-Contra Affair, which, at its core, was an effort to raise money and arms for the Contras by whatever means necessary. In his new job, Abrams not only became acquainted with the machinations of Oliver North and his fellow conspirators in the White House, he was also tasked to raise money himself, leading to his secret trip disguised as "Mr Kenilworth" to the palaces of the Sultan of Brunei. In one of the more comic episodes of the whole affair, the two men reached agreement on a $10 million contribution to the Contras, but Abrams gave the Sultan the wrong number of the Swiss bank account into which the funds were to have been deposited, and the money was never used." (Jim Lobe ‘Bush's trusty new Mideast point man’ Asia Times Online http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Middle_East/DL19Ak01.html 19.12.2002).

Gaffney, Frank.
"Under president Ronald Reagan, Perle became an assistant secretary of defense and named Gaffney as his deputy." (Jim Lobe ‘Perle: 'Prince of Darkness' in the spotlight’ Asia Times http://atimes.com/atimes/China/EC25Ad04.html 25.3.2003).

Bryen, Stephen.
In April 1981, the FBI received an application by the Defense Department for a Top Secret security clearance for Dr. Bryen. Richard Perle, who had just been nominated as assistant secretary of defense for international security policy (ISP), was proposing Bryen as his deputy assistant secretary! Within six months, with Perle pushing hard, Bryen received both Top Secret-SCI (sensitive compartmented information) and Top Secret-"NATO/COSMIC" clearances." (Stephen Green ‘Serving Two Flags: Neocons, Israel and the Bush Administration’ Washington Report on Middle East Affairs http://www.wrmea.com/archives/May_2004/0405020.html).

Feith, Douglas.
"Feith first entered government as a Middle East specialist on the National Security Council (NSC) under Ronald Reagan in 1981, but was abruptly fired after only one year. Perle, who was then serving in the Pentagon as assistant secretary of defence for international security, hired him as his deputy, a post he retained until leaving in 1986 to found Feith & Zell." (Jim Lobe ‘Feith is the Answer’ Inter Press News Service Agency http://www.ipsnews.net/interna.asp?idnews=20952 Nov 5 2003).

Ledeen, Michael.
In 1983, on the recommendation of Richard Perle, Ledeen was hired at the Department of Defense as a consultant on terrorism. His immediate supervisor was Principle Assistant Secretary for International Security Affairs Noel Koch. Early in their work together, Koch noticed with concern Ledeen’s habit of stopping by in his (Koch’s) outer office to read classified materials. When the two of them took a trip to Italy, Koch learned from the CIA station there that when Ledeen had lived in Rome previously, as correspondent for The New Republic, he’d been carried in agency files as an agent of influence of a foreign government: Israel. .)." (Stephen Green ‘Serving Two Flags: Neocons, Israel and the Bush Administration’ Washington Report on Middle East Affairs http://www.wrmea.com/archives/May_2004/0405020.html).

"In any event, Koch’s belated attempts to draw official attention to his former assistant were too late, for within a very few weeks of leaving his DOD consultancy in late 1984, Ledeen had found his gainful (classified) employment at the NSC. In fact, according to a now declassified chronology prepared for the Senate/House Iran-Contra investigation, within calendar 1984 Ledeen was already suggesting to Oliver North, his new boss at NSC, "that Israeli contacts might be useful in obtaining release of the U.S. hostages in Lebanon." Perhaps significantly, that is the first entry in the "Chronology of Events: U.S.-Iran Dialogue," dated Nov. 18, 1986, prepared for the Joint House-Senate Hearings in the Iran-Contra Investigations)." (Stephen Green ‘Serving Two Flags: Neocons, Israel and the Bush Administration’ Washington Report on Middle East Affairs http://www.wrmea.com/archives/May_2004/0405020.html).

Ledeen is a man that even oliver north believed needed to be constantly polygraphed! "On Jan. 16, 1986, Oliver North recommended to John Poindexter "for [the] security of the Iran initiative" that Ledeen be asked to take periodic polygraph examinations. Later in January, on the 24th, North wrote to Poindexter of his suspicion that Ledeen, along with Adolph Schwimmer and Manucher Ghorbanifar, might be making money personally on the sale of arms to Iran, through Israel. (Stephen Green ‘Serving Two Flags: Neocons, Israel and the Bush Administration’ Washington Report on Middle East Affairs http://www.wrmea.com/archives/May_2004/0405020.html).

Maloof, F. Michael.
"The attack-Iraq group eventually included F. Michael Maloof, a former aide to Perle in the 1980s Pentagon, who lost his security clearance in 2001 and again in 2003. (Andrew I. Killgore ‘The War on Iraq Has "Outed" the Neoconservatives—Hopefully for Good’ Washington report on Middle East Affairs http://www.wrmea.com/archives/June_2004/0406019.html June 2004, page 19).

Perle, Richard.
"Under president Ronald Reagan, Perle became an assistant secretary of defense ..." (Jim Lobe ‘Perle: 'Prince of Darkness' in the spotlight’ Asia Times http://atimes.com/atimes/China/EC25Ad04.html 25.3.2003).

"In 1981, shortly before being appointed assistant secretary of defense for international security policy—with responsibility, inter alia, for monitoring of U.S. defense technology exports—Richard Perle was paid a substantial consulting fee by Israeli arms manufacturer Tamares, Ltd. Shortly after assuming the ISP post, Perle wrote a letter to the secretary of the army urging evaluation and purchase of 155 mm. shells manufactured by Soltam, Ltd. After leaving DOD in 1987, Perle worked for Soltam." (Stephen Green ‘Serving Two Flags: Neocons, Israel and the Bush Administration’ Washington Report on Middle East Affairs http://www.wrmea.com/archives/May_2004/0405020.html).

Wolfowitz, Paul.
"Wolfowitz, then head of the State Department Policy Planning Staff." (Stephen Green ‘Serving Two Flags: Neocons, Israel and the Bush Administration’ Washington Report on Middle East Affairs http://www.wrmea.com/archives/May_2004/0405020.html).

The Kosher Nostra at Work during the Reagan Administration.
"As previously mentioned, in 1981 Perle, as DOD assistant secretary for international security policy (ISP), hired Bryen as his deputy. That same year, Wolfowitz, then head of the State Department Policy Planning Staff, hired Ledeen as a special adviser. In 2001 Douglas Feith, as DOD Under Secretary for Policy, hired or approved the hiring of Ledeen as a consultant for the Office of Special Plans. (Stephen Green ‘Serving Two Flags: Neocons, Israel and the Bush Administration’ Washington Report on Middle East Affairs http://www.wrmea.com/archives/May_2004/0405020.html).

"The neo-cons became in effect the intellectual arm of the Reagan administration... [Elliot] Abrams, as undersecretary of state for Latin American affairs, was a key figure in the effort to counter the Sandinistas in Nicaragua... ; Perle... spearheaded the drive to deploy Pershing missiles in Western Europe [and] the overall guru formulating these policies was Paul Wolfowitz." (Jeffrey Blankfort ‘A War for Israel’ http://www.leftcurve.org/LC28WebPages/WarForIsrael.html c.2003).

"Among former members of Jackson's staff to find positions in the Reagan administration's foreign policy team were such neoconservative operatives as Paul Wolfowitz, Richard Perle, Frank Gaffney, Charles Horner, and Ben Wattenberg. Other Jackson Democrats who secured appointments in the Reagan administration included Jeane Kirkpatrick, as UN ambassador, and neoconservatives on her staff, such as Joshua Muravchik, Steven Munson (like Abrams a Podhoretz-Decter son-in-law), Carl Gershman, and Kenneth Adelman. Abrams joined the neocon exodus from the Democratic Party in the late 1970s led by members of the Committee on the Present Danger and the Coalition for a Democratic Majority. His first position in the Reagan administration was director of the State Department's Office for Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs. But he was appointed only after Reagan's first choice came under fire in the Senate." (Tom Barry ‘The Ambassador of Lies Elliott Abrams: the Neocon's Neocon’ http://www.counterpunch.org/barry02092005.html February 9, 2005).

The Bush snr Administration: 1988-1992.
Introduction.
"In 1991, the same year as Chomsky's talk, Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir asked the first Bush administration for $10 billion in loan guarantees in order, he said, to provide for the resettlement of Russian Jews. Bush Sr. had earlier balked at a request from Congress to appropriate an additional $650 million dollars to compensate Israel for sitting out the Gulf War, but gave in when he realized that his veto would be overridden. But now he told Shamir that Israel could only have the guarantees if it freezes settlement building and promised that no Russian Jews would be resettled in the West Bank. An angry Shamir refused and called on AIPAC to mobilize Congress and the organized American Jewish community in support of the loans guarantees. A letter, drafted by AIPAC was signed by more than 240 members of the House demanding that Bush approve them, and 77 senators signed on to supporting legislation.

On September 12, 1991, Jewish lobbyists descended on Washington in such numbers that Bush felt obliged to call a televised press conference in which he complained that "1000 Jewish lobbyists are on Capitol Hill against little old me." It would prove to be his epitaph. Chomsky pointed to Bush's statement, at the time, as proof that the vaunted Israel lobby was nothing more than "a paper tiger. It took scarcely more than a raised eyebrow for the lobby to collapse," he told readers of Z Magazine. He could not have been further from the truth.

The next day, Tom Dine, AIPAC's Executive Director, declared that "September 12, 1991 is a day that will live in infamy."Similar comments were uttered by Jewish leaders, who accused Bush of provoking anti-Semitism. What was more important, his friends in the mainstream media, like William Safire, George Will, and Charles Krauthammer, not only criticized him; they began to find fault with the economy and how he was running the country. It was all downhill from there. Bush's Jewish vote, which has been estimated at 38% in 1988, dropped down to no more than 12%, with some estimates as low as 8%. Bush's opposition to the loan guarantees was the last straw for the Israel lobby. When he made disparaging comments about Jewish settlements in East Jerusalem in March, 1990, AIPAC had begun the attack (briefly halted during the the Gulf War). Dine wrote a critical op-ed in the New York Times and followed that with a vigorous speech to the United Jewish Appeal's Young Leaders Conference. "Brothers and sisters,"he told them as they prepared to go out and lobby Congress on the issue, "remember that Israel's friends in this city reside on Capitol Hill." Months later, the loan guarantees were approved, but by then Bush was dead meat." (Jeffrey Blankfort ‘The Israel Lobby and the Left: Uneasy Questions’ http://www.leftcurve.org/LC27WebPages/IsraelLobby.html c.2004).

Albright, Madeleine.
"Other neocons, including William Kristol, former chief of staff to Vice President Dan Quayle and editor of the journal Weekly Standard ..." (Paul Richter ‘A Tough Time for Neocons' Los Angeles times http://fairuse.1accesshost.com/news1/latimes185.htm June 9, 2004).

Eagleburger, Lawrence.
"Lawrence eagleburger, secretary of state under president bush, earns an annual salary of $300,000 as chair of the international commission on holocaust era insurance claims." (Norman G Finkelstein ‘The Holocaust industry. Reflections on the Exploitation of Jewish Suffering’ Verso London 2000 p.88).

The Clinton Administrations: 1992-2000.
Introduction.
The clinton administrations had more jews in them than any previous administration.

The Views of Alexander Cockburn.
"By the end of April 1993, Clinton had sold out the Haitian refugees, handed Africa policy to a Bush appointee, Herman Cohen, thus giving Jonas Savimbi the green light in Angola to butcher thousands ; put Israel's lobbyists in charge of Mideast policy .. By the end of May 1993, as any kind of progressive challenge to business-as-usual, the Clinton presidency had failed, even by the measure of its own timid promises. The recruitment of the old Nixon/Reagan/Bush hand David Gergen as the president's new public relations man signaled the surrender." (Alexander Cockburn 'The Democrats and Their Conventions. Part 3: Why the Dems Deserve Nader' Counterpunch http://www.counterpunch.org/cockburn07272004.html July 27, 2004).

The Views of Nathan Guttman.
"The relatively small number of Jews in Bush's cabinet became an issue largely due to the comparison with his predecessor, Bill Clinton. The former administration had such Jewish cabinet members as Robert Reich, Robert Rubin, Sandy Berger, Lawrence Summers and Madeline Albright and State Department officials Dennis Ross, Martin Indyk and Aaron Miller." (Nathan Guttman ‘Top White House posts go to Jews’ http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1143498911316&pagename
=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FPrinter April 25 2006).

Albright, Madeleine.
It was recently discovered that madeleine albright has jewish connections. Quite who did the research and why it should be announced is not known.

Berger, Sandy.

Cohen, Herman.

Fuerth, Leon.
"Clinton and his foreign policy brass met late into the night to consider the issue. Leon Fuerth, foreign policy adviser to Vice President Al Gore, argued passionately for invoking ILSA. In the end, however, President Clinton refused to go along, out of fear that the United States would be taken to task by the World Trade Organization—and that it likely would lose." (Andrew I. Killgore ‘Neocons Battle Against U.S. Rapprochement With Iran’ Washington Report on Middle East Affairs http://www.wrmea.com/archives/May_2004/0405035.html May 2004, page 35).

Gergen, David.

Holbrooke, Richard.

Indyk, Martin S.
Martin S. Indyk, Clinton's ambassador to Israel, who is the founding executive director for the Washington Institute for Near East Policy where the Straussian neocon Wolfowitz sits on the board of directors)." (Kurt Nimmo ‘Neocon pink slips and the fall of America’ http://www.onlinejournal.com/Commentary/
100204Nimmo/100204nimmo.html October 2, 2004).

Rosenbaum, Eli.
Rosenbaum was the head of the united states government’s special investigations unit for the prosecution of nazi war criminals - the non-zionist variety of course.

Ross, Dennis.
Dennis Ross was america's top 'peace process negotiator' for a decade or so between Israel and the Palestinians in the days when americans were regarded as being 'even-handed' in the middle east. The collapse of the peace process resulted from the election of ariel sharon which triggered off the second intifada bringing about the worst mayhem and bloodshed ever.

"Dennis Ross, who served as Middle East envoy for the Clinton administration, is now handling an entirely different role with a think tank created by the Jewish Agency for Israel. Ross was front and center when the Policy Planning Institute for the Jewish People opened its doors May 14 in Jerusalem. The institute "will examine the challenges, threats, needs and opportunities" confronting Jews worldwide, the Jewish Agency said. According to Ross, the newly appointed chairman of the institute's board of directors and director of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, "We need to be thinking about the problems emerging down the road." What emerged from the deliberations was a collective decision to create the institute, which will be funded with $1 million annually from the Jewish Agency, with additional funds expected from Jewish philanthropists. Ross said he decided to work for the institute because it was the least he could do "as a member of the Jewish people."" (Jessica Steinberg ‘New institute plans Jewish future’ Jewish News of Greater Phoenix http://www.jewishaz.com/jewishnews/020517/new.shtml May 17, 2002).

Ross, Dennis and Indyk, Martin S.
"The backgrounds of Ross and Indyk are relevant to the policy they developed during the Clinton years. Before entering government, both had been connected with the pro-Israeli think tank, the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, a spin-off from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), the principal pro-Israel lobby organization. Ross was a senior fellow at the institute in the mid-1980s, was an adviser to the Bush presidential campaign in 1988, and served as James Baker's senior State Department adviser on both Soviet and Middle East affairs. He stayed on as principal Middle East negotiator throughout Clinton's years in office and since then has returned to the Washington Institute as a senior counselor. Indyk, an Australian citizen who came to the U.S. in the 1970s and had worked for AIPAC, was the Washington Institute's director from its creation in 1984 until he moved into the Clinton administration in 1993, an appointment that necessitated his rapid acquisition of U.S. citizenship.

Both men had lived in Israel in the 1970s, and Indyk has told interviewers that he moved to the United States after the 1973 war because he came to believe during that war that the U.S. was the key to Israel's defense, an objective clearly of surpassing importance to him personally. Although both men prided themselves on being able as Jews to understand Palestinians better than most, it was clear that they approached Middle East policymaking from an Israel-centered focus that did not in fact permit as clear an understanding of Palestinian concerns as of Israeli interests. One can get an idea of the perhaps unconsciously skewed perspective from which they operated by imagining the policy approach of a chief mediator who was of Palestinian descent, had lived in the West Bank, and unabashedly proclaimed that his primary aim in life was to ensure the defense of Palestine." (Kathleen Christison ‘From LBJ to GWB The Full Story of Resolution 242L: How the US Sold Out the Palestinians’ http://www.counterpunch.org/kchristison0628.html June 28th 2002).

Rubin, James.
"James P. Rubin, Clinton's Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs, an AIPAC-installed Zionist who believes UN-documented facts of Palestinian suffering under the brutal and interminable Israeli occupation are "exaggerated" and amount to self-inflicted misery, as he told Dr. Khaled M. Batarfi of Arab News in August, adequately demonstrating the difference between "liberal" Arab haters and "conservative" Arab haters is at best negligible. (Kurt Nimmo ‘Neocon pink slips and the fall of America’ http://www.onlinejournal.com/Commentary/100204Nimmo/100204nimmo.html October 2, 2004).

Wolfowitz, Paul.
"In 1992, as Under Secretary of Defense for policy in the Clinton administration, he supervised the drafting of the Defense Policy Guidance document. Having objected to what he considered the premature ending of the war, his new document, contained plans for further intervention in Iraq as an action necessary to assure "access to vital raw material, primarily Persian Gulf oil," and to prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and threats from terrorism." (Jeffrey Blankfort ‘A War for Israel’ http://www.leftcurve.org/LC28WebPages/WarForIsrael.html c.2003).

General Comments.
"In the Clinton administration, the three most senior State Department officials dealing with the Palestinian-Israeli peace process were all partisans of Israel to one degree or another. All had lived at least for brief periods in Israel and maintained ties with Israel while in office, occasionally vacationing there. One of these officials had worked both as a pro-Israel lobbyist and as director of a pro-Israel think tank in Washington before taking a position in the Clinton administration from which he helped make policy on Palestinian-Israeli issues. Another has headed the pro-Israel think tank since leaving government." (Kathleen and Bill Christison Counterpunch ‘A Rose By Another Other Name: The Bush Administration's Dual Loyalties’ http://www.counterpunch.org
/christison1213.html 13.12.2002); "About three years ago, Nightline's Ted Koppel came to the University of Notre Dame to give the Red Smith journalism lecture. I remember summoning every ounce of courage during question time in order to express my concern about the importance of even-handedness in the US media when reporting on the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. Then I asked Koppel how he felt, as a Jewish-American, about a foreign policy team which at that time was overwhelmingly Jewish. Madelaine Albright and her spokesman, James Rubin, were at the State Department, Sandy Berger was Security Advisor and William Cohen Secretary of Defense; Richard Holbrooke was Ambassador to the UN. I was sure that had the shoe been on the other foot - had the team's composition been almost entirely Arab-American - the issue of fairness would most certainly have been raised. Koppel was nonplussed by the question and responded that in the US gifted individuals, regardless of background, could rise to the top - an answer that did not address my concern. (Ann Pettifer 'Zionism Unbound' Dissident Voice http://www.dissidentvoice.org/Articles/Pettifer_Zionism.htm 11.12.2002).

"During the Clinton years, the keys at the State Department were handed over to operatives straight from the Israeli Lobby. Martin Indyk, former head of AIPAC was made ambassador to Israel. Dennis Ross, the 'mediator', also had ideological roots in the lobby. Eagleburger, Holbrooke and Albright are all dedicated Israel Firsters." (Ahmed Amr ‘The Israeli Lobby Is America's Third Party’ Nile Media http://www.nilemedia.com/Columnists/Ahmed/
2002/June/The_Israeli.html June 06, 2002).
