This doll was so fun to make. I started with a pattern designed by Barbara Willis that was in Soft Dolls and Animals magazine. The chair is my own design. After shaping it from wire, I hot glued leaves and sunflowers on it. Then I made a simple pillow for the seat. She has a halo of sunflowers in her hair. Her hair is curly yarn and her face is painted. I made the curls by wrapping the yarn on metal knitting needles and baking it.

After I made the sunflower doll I made this one. Her hair is white wavy sheep wool. She has a star halo with dangly stars on her head. I made the halo and wrapped her chair with silver star garland. This chair has a lower back and her skirt is very full so you can't see the chair. I found the star wand at a dollar store. I wish I had bought more! They're perfect for dolls. |

I designed these dolls from a pattern by Julie McCullough that was in Soft Dolls and Animals. The pattern was called Geo. The magazine asked readers to interpret it any way they wanted and to send in pictures. I made a merboy and mermaid. They printed the picture! The fabric I used is batik from Bali. It's a favorite around here for quilters. I think the blue-green mix is especially good for the mermaids. The hair is yarn curls. I use this style of hair a lot. Since the tail was my own design, I made a new body for it and will be selling it on
my business site. |
