An accompanist will be provided free of charge (opportunity for a brief rehearsal on the day of the auditions) for instrumentalists and vocalists who do not have their own. Indicate need on application and submit a copy of the music by the Saturday, January 10, 2009 deadline. Student/performers selected for the Mid-Season Musicale Concert who use the accompanist provided by the AMTL in the auditions must use an accompanist provided by the AMTL for the concert as well. Applications: Applications must be postmarked by Saturday, January 10, 2009. Please note that only the first sixty (60) applicants will be accepted for audition. All other applications will be considered in the order received. Only completed applications will qualify for consideration. Changes in the audition schedule cannot be made once the schedule has been mailed out. Please see below for full requirements. Requirements for Entry: Age Limit: Pianists, Percussionists, and String Instrumentalists - age 15; Singers, Wind and Brass Players - age 17 at time of audition. There is no minimum age requirement. Performers auditioning for the Mid-Season Musicales may not audition for the Young Musicians Concert the same season. Number of Entries: Each instructor is permitted two (2), either solo or ensemble. Small chamber ensembles are encouraged to enter. If one ensemble member's instructor is a member of AMTL, this entry may be in addition to the other two entries. Repertoire: Only two (2) compositions may be presented for performance, and one must be from the Baroque, Classical or Romantic Periods. Individual movements of Sonatinas or Sonatas are considered as individual pieces. Singers' audition repertoire must include at least one piece displaying classical vocal technique, style, and repertoire. Minimum level - folk song arrangements. If timing permits a second piece, an option is a "non-belt" musical theater piece. All solo instrumental and vocal music must be fully prepared and memorized for the audition. Abridged and simplified arrangements are accepted for ensembles only. An original copy of the music performed is required. Photocopies are acceptable only if music is permanently out-of-print or not protected by copyright. Audition/Repertoire Time Limit: There is an audition/performance time limit. Please enter no more than eight (8) minutes of repertoire. Even when entering two (2) compositions, the total time must not exceed eight (8) minutes. For Elementary/Intermediate Levels and Voice: Both pieces may be accepted for performance if total performance time does not exceed three (3) minutes. Repertoire exceeding the stipulated time limit will not be considered for the concert performance. Entry: To enter students at the member fee rate an instructor must have been an AMTL member since December 2008. Dues must not be in arrears at the time of application. Otherwise, the non-member fees apply. Entering performers and their instructors must be in good standing. Evaluation/Selection: In many cases, only one composition is selected
for performance. Adjudicator's decisions and evaluations will be mailed
to the individual teachers. For Elementary/Intermediate Levels and Voice:
Both pieces may be accepted for performance if total performance time
does not exceed three minutes. Please consider that the competitiveness of the event depends on the number of applicants. There is an overall time limit for the concerts (that means, there is a limit to how many students can be selected to play in the concert) which makes the audition more competitive if the number of applicants is high. Fees: Members: $53 per solo entry ($25 Application/Audition Fee; $28 Concert Fee); $81 per ensemble ($25 Application/Audition Fee;$56 Concert Fee). Non-members: $73 per solo entry ($25 Application/Audition Fee; $28 Concert Fee + $20 Teacher Fee [(not a student expense) in the form of the teacher's separate, personal check per each entry]; $101 per ensemble ($25 Application/Audition Fee; $56 Concert Fee + $20 Teacher Fee). The concert fee will be refunded - an AMTL check will be issued - to those performers who audition, but who are not selected to perform in the concert. The audition and non-member teacher fees are non-refundable. PLEASE NOTE THAT AMTL WILL ACCEPT CHECKS IN THE ABOVE AMOUNTS ONLY. Tickets: Tickets to the Concert are included in the Concert Fee. There are four (4) admissions per solo entry and eight (8) admissions per ensemble entry. Additional tickets are available for sale at the Concert at $10 a piece. Application Procedure: 1. Complete and print out application form. Parents and teachers, please sign on the bottom. (Singers: attach Foreign language text literal translations on a separate sheet). 2.
