I wanna be an author...
This section does not get nearly enough attention from me. I really do want to become a (published) writer, but mundane things like software engineering tend to get in the way.
I have a quite a few short stories and partial stories set in various storylines/universes. Of course I have a lot of essays and technical papers too, but this is not the section for those, this section is for fiction only (for now).
If you would like to see more complete short writings, check out my frequently updated dreamlog.
CyberJunk 1.0!
Waaaaaaaaaay back in '91 or so I attempted to co-author a story that was a parody of the "cyberpunk" sub-culture. This writing requires a knowledge of 1980's and early 1990's U.S. culture in addition to a familiarality with Cyberpunk writing/movies and an appreciation for geek humor. That said this story will probably only appeal to computer programmers who are at least 32 years old as of 2002. Also, keep in mind that there are numerous instances of profanity, bunches of violence, and ideas such as swinging in the story.
CyberJunk is a parody of the newest, and latest genre; Cyberpunk. The story
centers on two lowly citizens in a society dominated by violence, high prices,
ultra powerful corporations and weak governments; in other words it is an
anarchist like world with lots and lots of fun things to do.
There are two main characters, Adam Null, who is a hacker working in the sweat
shop of the information age- data entry. Adam is also a part time Samizdata
gatherer and fledgling white collar criminal. Daisy Wheel, the second main
character is a beautiful, young, very very very good looking wench who works
as a receptionist during the day and a crack corporate spy (espionage
technician) by night. Daiz, as her friends call her is completely and totally
infatuated with Adam, who doesn't know what to do with a woman, even if she
throws herself at his feet (like Daiz does).
Note: Just a little note from Andrew regarding CyberJunk 1.0, for people who might be reading this who don't know me well. Keep in mind that this is a sarcastic comedy, written with another person when we were both about 23. It is supposed to be kinda over the top so if you think there is too much violence, sex, stupid situation, racism, etc then perhaps you should go see the doctor about your lack of humor! :-)
