Labs
SoundBlaster Live!
Creative, which demonstrated the card .It will be
based on the EMU 10K1 audio processor and have
1,000 MIPS of audio processing power.
The Live! supports 131 audio channels with 64
dedicated to output. Two Live! cards can be used
on the PCI bus with one card dedicated for sound
effects and the other for DirectSound.
The Live! will be launched with Creative's new
Environmental Audio eXtension API. EAX is an
extension to Microsoft's DirectSound3D that
Creative say will be easy for software developers
to adopt.
The card will sport two separate MIDI ports, one
for dedicated MIDI and the other for a joystick.
Creative expects the card to cost less than $200
and is aiming it at gamers, PC and audio
enthusiasts. The card should available by this
summer.
S3 Killed SonicVibes :With
up to 4MB onboard ROM for 32 voices, SB Pro
legacy compatibility, FM synthesis, general MIDI,
DirectSound, DirectMusic, SRS 3D-audio
enhancements, DOS support, and InfiniPatch the
SonicVibes appeared to be a winner. S3 has
stopped producing SonicVibes(PCI Sound Chip)
