Welcome to Latest Processor News.

  • In this Page you will find latest hardware news on processors and more info about cpu cores / cpu codes available at Intel Cpu Cores page.

  • New Enteries from Intel :(Mendocino)Celeron 300 A and Celeron 333 MHz with 128 kB full speed L2 cache on the same piece of silicon.(original Celerons has no L2 Cache).Plus new Intel Pentium II 450 MHz.

  • Pentium Pro OverDrive for desktop PCs, workstations, around $600 from Intel. The same chip will upgrade 150- and 180-MHz Pentium Pro processor-based systems to 300 MHz, and 166- and 200-MHz processor-based systems to 333 MHz.The Pentium II OverDrive brings Intel's MMX technology to Pentium Pro systems, coupled with a 32KB Level 1 internal cache and a 512KB Level 2 cache running at processor speeds. In Intel tests, replacing a 200-MHz Pentium Pro with a 333-MHz Pentium II OverDrive boosted overall performance for business applications 47 percent under Windows 95 and 39 percent under Windows NT 4.0. In tests on MMX applications, the 333-MHz Pentium II OverDrive processor provided an overall performance increase of 80 percent.Intel didn't test the compatibility of this OverDrive on quad-processing systems and doesn't recommend using it for those machines.
  • Intel Announces Coppermine And Cascade Processors:

    • Coppermine, a desktop and mobile processor family, and Cascade, a processor geared toward workstations and servers. Both will appear sometime in the second half of 1999

    • Tanner, a Slot 2 server processor, is slated to appear early in 1999

    • The 450/500MHz Pentium II Katmai processors will also appear early in 1999

    • Merced, Intel's 64-bit processor is expected to sample in late 1999

  • Intel Demonstrates 450MHz Pentium II :Intel has seen the future of digital television, It'll have a Pentium II processor inside. Intel announced 450MHz Pentium II processor acting as a digital television receiver. The new processor can display full motion video at 360 lines of resolution and display it on a 720p (progressive scan) digital TV monitor.
  • Current Enteries from Intel :

    • Xeon : Core Frequency : 400 Mhz , Front Side Bus : 100 Mhz ,Back Side Bus : , Slot : Slot 2, L2 Cache CPU Speed 512KB/1024KB/2048KB, Supported Chipsets 440 GX and 450 NX from Intel.Improved Pentium Pro Core also used in Pentium II with MMX fast Floating Point Unit but no 3DNow instructions.

    • Celeron : Core Frequency : 266/300 Mhz,Front Side Bus : 66 Mhz,Back Side Bus : None,Slot : Slot 1,L2 Cache : None,Supported Chipsets 440 LX ,440 BX and 440 EX from Intel..Improved Pentium Pro Core also used in Pentium II with MMX fast Floating Point Unit but no 3DNow instructions.Slower than Pentium II at same Frequency

    • 300MHz and 333MHz Celeron processors--formerly code-named Mendocino-- both contain 128K of L2 cache and is released .

  • A New Processor, K6-2 is selling well from AMD and

    • K6-3 is planned this Fall with 400Mhz ,256KB L2 Cache On Chip.

    • K7 will available at Year 2000 at 1GHz with Copper technology from Motorola.AMD expects to reach the higher clock-speeds with copper-chip manufacturing technology from Motorola, which it will apply to a 0.18-micron process technology at its new wafer fabrication plant currently under construction in Dresden, Germany.

  • New Entry from AMD :

    • K6-2 Core Frequency : 300/333/350 Mhz ,Front Side Bus : 100/95/100 Mhz mproved K6 Core MMX slightly slower Floating Point Unit from Intel AND 3DNow instructions.Socket :Super 7(Socket 7 at 100 MHz)

  • KroTech designed a K6-2 System with AMD K6-2 running at 450 MHz (333 MHz CPU cooled to minus 40 degrees)

  • Cyrix renamed 6x86MX as MII ,also shifted top frequency to PR333.Cyrix will support 3DNow instructions in future processors

  • IBM still manufacturing 6x86MXs up to PR333

  • WinChip (Centaur / IDT) C6 with 180/200/225 Mhz Socket 7. There will be C7 with 3DNow instructions

  • SGS-Thomson Microelectronics has announced plans to clone a Pentium II-class processor that'll slide right into Slot 1 440FX/440LX/440BX-based motherboard.
