RELEASE DESCRIPTION

401: A Band of Whores
A preview cd-r for this demo was included in Free Society #13. 401 play fun punk rock with an "old school" sound, and lyrics inspired by the likes of WEIRD AL and DAVID CROSS, as well as hatred of the Reverend Fred Phelps and organized religion. (2002 - Self-Released)
$2.00
ASS 'O' GORE: Anal Fist Capitalism Demo
Metal-influenced crust in the vein of AMEBIX (includes cover of ICBM). Some of the music is fast, some slow. Lyrics discuss issues like globalization, religion, conformity, society, but with an attempt to not be entirely doom and gloom. Includes tape cover so you can make copies. (2002 - Self-Released)
$2.00
ASS 'O' GORE: In The UK
Recorded live Aug 30/02 at the last basement show of the summer in Sarnia, ON, at Straight Outta Cobden, using one mic and a minidisc player. The sound isn't that bad. Includes some songs from the demo, and one unreleased song. Includes tape cover so you can make copies. (2003 - Free Society)
$2.00
DFA (DENNIS FRANZ ASS): Lets Get Retarded
This is a demo by the band from Saskatchewan, Canada, that went on to release stuff on Deranged Records. Fast hardcore with meaningful, yet funny and sarcastic lyrics. (1999 - Self-Released)
$2.00
ESCORIA: O Fim!
Metal influenced punk/crust from Brazil. For an idea of where they're coming from, they do a grand cover of Largactyl by the almighty AMEBIX. (1999 - Self-Released)
$2.00
EVICTION PARTY: Forward Always
EVICTION PARTY, once of Halifax, NS, have since moved to Guelph, ON, and on this release they play more great, emotional punk rock similar to their previous releases. It’s difficult to pinpoint a comparison musically. Parts of it remind me of CRIMPSHRINE, but it’s not enslaved by chorus/verse structure, similar to some of the later bands that Cometbus drummed for. At the same time, it lacks the upbeat punk loudness of bands like CBDS, ASTRID OTO or PINHEAD GUNPOWDER. There’s a lot of sad sounding songs and the lyrics kind of have this lonely, confused tone to them, sung mostly by Todi and Brad’s gruff, cracking voices. Songs I love on this are ‘Montreal Song’, ‘Transcona Yard’ (I don’t think the lyrics for this are included), ‘Fun Dip Song’ (which has some harmonica going on it), and ‘Walmart at Midnight’. This last one is a great ending for the disc. There’s a sweet cover of that classic folk song, ‘City of New Orleans’… You know, “Good morning, America, how are you? Don’t you know me? I’m your native son…” etc… I loved it. (2008 – Sharpie Fumes Collective - #19)
$5.00
FURIDAMU: Freedom Demo
Angry and political punk rock with crusty female vocals. The band also utilizes instruments like hand drums, tambourines and digeree doo. Lyrics cover a multitude of subjects including diet, homophobes, conformity, sexism, etc... The insert is one piece of paper that has a cool picture on one side drawn by Cam (drummer) and James (bassist), and the other side has lyrics crammed in. A decent recording makes this release quite worthwhile. (2004 - Self-Released)
$2.00
MAYDAY: Demo
Scandicrust via Texas. When I downloaded this stuff it blew my ass out. Raging music with badass multiple vocals. Lyrics all cover war and oppression and relate to the current world political situation. The last song on this destroys: "Slain... left to RAAAAWWWWWWT" (2004 - Self-Released)
$2.00
MISSED LIFE: S/T Demo
MISSED LIFE are a guitar/drums two-piece from the East Coast of Canada, originally Nova Scotia, now Newfoundland. This is top-notch crusty hardcore with both members trading off on vocals, so you have Sam, whose voice reminds me of Saira from DETESTATION at times, and Ben, whose voice at times reminds me of one of the ANTISCHISM dude vocalists. Lyrics (included in the fold-out) are both personal and political covering issues like scene fashion trends, work, conformity, frustration with life, and nature fighting back against the parasitic human race. The recording is great and very listenable. (2007 - Self-Released)
$2.00
NAPALMARREA: S/T Demo
This was a band I was in a while ago. We played dark, distorted punk with anarcho lyrics. Raspy vocals, over top of muddy, distorted punk rock. This thing oozes anger and bitterness. Includes a cover of 1/4 Dead by RUDIMENTARY PENI. Includes fold-out cover with lyrics, as well as a tape cover.(2000 - Free Society)
$2.00
SOTATILA: Eka Demo
This is such a rad demo. Hardcore punk from Austria, with a vocalist from Finland. It sounds like ‘80’s hc from Finland with interesting bass-lines that standout beneath the blazing guitar and solid drumming. There are also some decent lyrics about social problems, and about people. I can’t recommend this enough. (2005 - Self-Released)
$2.00
THE SUITS: Cash Is Your New God
This is the second release from this band, originally from St. Thomas, ON, who moved to BC, and became LEPER. This was a point where they went much further into a hardcore/thrash direction, but still maintained the ska sound as well. Lyrics are 100% top-quality, as they are to this day in LEPER. (2004 - Creepcore)
$2.00
TYLER: Tyler's Mind
Acoustic anarcho punk. Another solid recording courtesy of Dave Straight Outta Cobden. Songs about politics, personal stuff, etc... Poetry/spoken word interspersed between songs. Musically, this is influenced by the likes of JEFF OTT, BILLY BRAGG. Tyler's voice reminds me of JESSE BLATZ, and a little like the singer of VIOLENT FEMMES at times. Includes a cover of To Have and to Have Not by BILLY BRAGG. (2003 - Creepcore)
$2.00
XFIXEATED: Revolution Denied Demo
This is a pretty diverse release. It starts up with some dark industrial type stuff. The rest, remaining quite dark, covers a range of influences from heavy metal to punk rock. Includes a cover of STIFF LITTLE FINGERS' State of Emergency. Comes with a booklet with lyrics and pictures. (2002 - World War III Records)
$2.00
GERM ATTAK / 2KOMPONENTZ
GERM ATTAK come from Ottawa, ON, playing simplistic hardcore punk in the vein of ‘80’s British hardcore with maxed-out reverb on the vocals. There’s even a sweet cover of DISORDER’s ‘Complete Disorder’. Songs about Zapatistas, womyn’s liberation, drug addiction, Japanese internment camps in Canada’s darker parts of history and more. I didn’t really know what to expect with 2KOMPONENTZ especially after reading that they didn’t have real drums, however, I was pleasantly surprised. This is a good pairing for GERM ATTAK as the band also plays simplistic punk with a definite UK 80’s feel to it but from a totally different angle than GERM ATTAK. Sometimes the lyrics seemed to be lacking with a straight-up ‘fuck the world’ thing going on, however, the music itself is pretty sweet. (2006 - Self-Released)
$2.00
ICBM / GERM ATTAK
ICBM were a metallic d-beat crust band from Ottawa, ON, that were around almost a year or so in 2005. Nat’s voice reminds me of Amy from NAUSEA. It’s pretty sweet. Wish I had had a chance to see them. GERM ATTAK play simplistic and raw punk in the ‘80’s UK style with reverbed out vocals. Two great bands. (2005 - Shredcore Productions)
$2.00

SARNIA / PARADIGM
SARNIA plays music that certainly fits under the hc banner, however, it goes all over the place from shout-along breakdown parts to blast/thrash beats with metallic guitar influences... guitar, drums, and four vocalists. Comes with booklet with lyrics n shit. PARADIGM also play hc with meaningful lyrics shouted over metal-influenced hc but with a much more 'hc' feel than SARNIA. (2005 - Self-Released)
$4.00
V/A: Rail City Creepilation
A compilation released by Brett of the Suits which includes songs from: The Suits (St. Thomas Skacore), Chemical Valley Mutants (Sarnia punk rock), 69 Cent Burrito Sunday (Sarnia Skacore), Favour the Right (Port Dover punk rock a la Filth), Bastard Fish (St. Thomas crustiness). Glossy insert. (2004 - Creep Core Records)
$4.00
