August 1858

Sun 1 - [at home] Father, Lib and I have been to Beebetown to meeting. Miles [Tillotson] and Zed come home with us. Went back again at 4 o'clock. Rained some.

Zadock Tillotson, jr. was born the same year as Jane. He appears to be another cousin with whom she was quite friendly. I believe that he is the Zed referred to frequently in her diaries. Everything seems to fit. Zed was single in 1858 and married in 1861. Zadock married Emily M. Metcalf on 12 June 1860 (MCMR). Zed's wife is mentioned in two entries, but not by name. It is interesting that Zed should be mentioned so often but seldom his wife.

Zed was afflicted early in life with Scrofula and sore eyes. Therefore, he was unable to read until he was an adult. This resulted in his being poorly educated. He drove the stage coach between Berea and Brunswick, OH. (Tillotson Gen)
