>>Someone Explains WHYY??
Q uestions that need answers from the Governor General Abou
Reda ….
The governorate of Red Sea extends to 84.000 km2 of desert land, most of it is not reclaimed , and in spite of this , the government refuses to give a piece of land of 150 achier to the monastery to build a spiritual life for the monks of the substantial monastery of St. Anthony the Great , ALTHOUGH THE MONASTERY IS READY TO PAY FOR THIS LAND, and already the monastery has offered to buy this piece of land, but their request was refused !!!!!
And in a very stubborn and uncivilized way, the government insists to get back this piece of land to it's possessions, although there are fences erected on it which protects the monastery from robbery !!
What is most wondering is that the government claims that they need this , specific, piece of land to reclaim it and plant it , although there is no source of water in this vast area in the depth of the desert !!!

If the government intends to reclaim a land , wouldn't it be more reasonable to make all this effort , and pay all this money in reclaiming a land near the sea in which tourists frequently visit from all around the world?!

Is this the way we should deal with the case of the Oldest Ancient Monastery in the Whole World??!!

And why this stubborn refusal to sell this land to the monastery, and instead of all these troubles, cooperate with the monastery to keep this place safe and help in making it a point of tourism attraction!!

>>Results of the meeting held on 20-8-2003.
In Alexandria 1:00 pm 20-8-2003, a meeting took place between high governmental authority and Bishop Yoanes on behalf of the monastery, in the presence of the Governor of Hurgada, and stayed for two and half hours.
The outcome was a suggestion from the Governor of Hurgada to give the monastery one third of the area under contention and two thirds to the government.
The Governor claimed that they need this piece of land to plant it with trees!! Keep in mind that the monks' cells and caves are scattered in this area they want to take away from the monastery!!

Up to here we stand in front of some really confusing questions !!

1- From where will they get the water to plant the trees, and this area on the Egyptian map is from the areas impossible to reclaim???!!!!!!

2- How can he perform this hard task in the depth of the desert in the foot of El Galala mountain that is 300 Km away from his Administration residency??!!!!

3- Why specially this isolated place that has no sign of life except for the monks only !!!! And why not put all these huge efforts in a place near the sea which will sure enter a good income to the government!!!!

4- And the most confusing question is: what is he going to do with the cells and caves of the monks living in this area??!!! Will he send the huge bulldozers as well to demolish them??!! Or will he force the monks to leave their cells and caves for planting some trees!!!!!

>>BELIEVE IT OR NOT !!!!

The Governor of Hurgada is very much Concerned about Tourism in Egypt that he has:

-Set his mind to put down the walls of the OLDEST Monastery in the Whole World !!!

-On 19 August 2003 he gave orders to close the road leading to the Monastery from Korimat till Zaafarana , and all the roads leading to it !!!  Not only, the Souis Road was closed as well for 5 hours !!! What if there were any emergency case or ambulance car that should cross that road to save a life !!!

- Attacked the Monastery while there were foriegners in, and they were prevented to leave the monastery.
