All pictures were taken at the "Vasco Sameiro" circuit in Braga (Portugal). It's a very technical small track (2 miles perimeter). Most turns are made in 2nd gear and most of them are left turns. The longest straight is a mile long and has a very tight right turn at the end. I was able to reach 270 Kph / 168 mph at the end of the straight in 5th gear, then I would brake very hard (inside the 200 meter / 600 feet mark), downshift to 3rd gear and make the right turn at about 160 kph / 100 mph.
The R1 is a great bike for the Track. I dropped my laptime by 7 sec. with this bike when compared to my best laptime with the ThunderAce.
In fact I made the 5th best laptime among 60 riders. If you take in consideration that there were 6-7 SuperSport National Championship Riders there and that this was my first time with the R1 at the track, I think I've done great !
Racing against these 2 Kawasaki ZX-9R was great ! In fact, it was the best part of the day ! We were increasing the pace, lap by lap. We were braking so late at the end of the main straight, that one of the Kwaks didn't make the turn and went on to the gravel. Our laptimes were really close (tenths of a second) and we made the 4th, 5th and 6th best laptimes of the day !
I had the stock tires (Michelin TX15/25 N Hi-Sport) and was using 32 psi front & 34 psi rear.
