The
International Plastic Modelers Society (IPMS) was first founded in 1963
in the United Kingdom, as the British Plastic Modeller's Socitey. The
society was formed on the basis of "For Modellers, by Modellers" and
is therefore a non-profit making organisation whose sole aim is to provide
the means for its members to enhance their model building skills and
increase their technical and historic knowledge through the exchange
of ideas, knowledge and techniques with fellow members of the society.
Since its humble beginning, the society has spread its wings and many
chapters of the IPMS have been formed across the globe.
|
The
preparation for the formation of IPMS (Singapore) was first started
in September 1998 by a group of dedicated modellers, who felt the need
for a society to promote the hobby of miniature modelling in Singapore.
Through the determination of these modellers, the society was officially
approved by the Registry of Society in December 1998 , thus the birth
of the Singapore chapter.

1)
Help Modeller improve their skill
The
society will hold monthly meetings which will allow modellers from all
walks of life in Singapore an opportunity to meet, exchange ideas and
experience with fellow modellers thus helping them to improve their modelling
skill to a higher level and at the same time enlarge their circles of
friends.
2)
Keeps members well informed
A bi-monthly Newsletter called
the "Modelling Bench" will be published and distributed to its members.
The newsletter will provide members with the various happenings in the
modelling world, information on new and upcoming kits, kit reviews and
etc.
3)
Bring benefits to its members
IPMS (Singapore) has negotiated
with the various hobby shops in Singapore, so that members can be given
discount when they purchase models from the supporting hobby shops. Check
out our Membership page and find out how you could sign-up and enjoy these
benefits.

4)
Showcase scale modelling
IPMS
(Singapore) plans to organise modelling conventions and competition so
that modellers can showcase their works. The friendly competition gives
the modellers the opportunity to pit their work against fellow modellers
so that they can gauge their skill level. If possible, the society will
hope to organised a convention on an international scale, where manufacturers
from around the globe can come and showcase their products here.
5)
Promote The Hobby In Singapore
It is hope that through the
events that IPMS (Singapore) organises, a greater sense of awareness for
the hobby can be promoted and the traditional views that scale models
are just merely toys which requires assembly can be changed. We hope to
educate the general public that through proper research, patience and
skills, a scale model can be transformed into an art form which can be
appreciated just like a piece of painting, thus making scale modelling
an admirable hobby.
