Mississipi River

(the Canadian one)

A small pleasant river in Northwestern Ontario which we canoed for several days downstream and several days back while killing time before rafting on the Ottawa River.

A very enjoyable river through mixed forests. However, the beauty and accessability of this river make it vulnerable to development and so it has a number of cottages along its banks.

Usually, a portage route is provided and well marked where necessary, but be prepared to inadvertently stumble onto someone's property much to their, and your own, chagrin. We were chastised by a "Nyles Crane" type of character, whom we nicknamed, "Skippy", and still laugh over the incident to this day!
