Advanced Dungeons and Dragons 2nd Edition Campaign World.
General information about D&D. |
Advanced Dungeons and Dragons 2nd Edition is a Role-Playing game (RPG). It is the second expansion of Dungeons and Dragons, there is now an edition out that is called "Dungeons & Dragons" once again, and it is what is commonly called the third edition.. though technically it is the fourth edition. The game has in one form or another been played since the mid to late nineteen seventies. Though the latest version is more play balanced and easier to use, I have decided not to move to the new version of Dungeons and Dragons for a number of reasons. The first is financial. I own almost all of the AD&D 2nd edition books and monster appendices and have no wish to re-buy all of my rules supplements. The second is memory related. I have many rules and tables and so forth memorized as I've been playing since 1988. Thirdly, it's a matter of loyalty. The new owners of the Game kinda trashed all of the old rules in order to make things better to a new audience without keeping us loyal players in mind. Instead of expanding the game, they re-wrote it. Keeping all of this in mind, I'm in the process of writing my own expansion pack for AD&D 2nd Edition that will incorporate some changes that will make the game (I think) a little more playable, more realistic and more based on one rule system. I've included wounds penalties, I'm up to 6 new character classes, and major modifications to several of the pre-existing character classes.. and many more changes.. all of which I will eventually post up here. Feel free to use any of my ideas, because, really that's all they are.. ideas, and if you're afraid to share your ideas, you're afraid to share yourself.. : ) |
General information about the (Old) Realm of Malace. |
It is the name of the ruler of the realm, a wizard of astounding power, and forever young. The name of a man who has reigned for over 1500 years. His position is questioned by no one. On his right hand is the Githyanki Dragon High Lord K'tharduk Addikin, on his left the dark Titan, Tharsis. His name is Malace. <peel of thunder> 1500 years ago, Malace figured out how to block all of the powers of the gods to this realm by turning on an ancient "Dimensional Shield", in doing so he wiped out all multi-planar creatures (Undead, Ethereal creatures) and trapped a Githyanki army who now have no means of going home to the Astral Plane. But this "Dimensional Shield" had the effect of preventing the souls of the departed from returning to their alignment plane, so Malace called upon the power of Tharsis, an evil Titan from the negative material plane to capture souls and imprison them. Tharsis uses the power of a captured avatar of Chronepsis, the Draconic god of death and judgement to enslave the spirits of the dead for his own dark purposes. To bind K'tharduk to his service, Malace gave a ring to the leader of the Githyanki. This ring made K'tharduk un-aging, and the red dragon Agamemnon, K'tharduk's servant, is now the most powerful mortal dragon in existence. In turn, the Githyanki have enslaved the dwarves. He has regulated the use of all magic to his Initiates, the sinister servants of Malace who roam the lands seeking those who have magical aptitude and taking them to be processed in one of the Initiate "training" camps. His Initiates have stomped out all religions and allows no priests. But now is the time of the prophecy of Cryalasis, an ancient reckoning that says that a group of chosen ones will free this realm from the yoke of Malace's reign, but will Malace join the ranks of the dead, or the ranks of the gods when his last curse is uttered? And will the entire world be wiped out in the process... if so, what will rise from the ashes? |
General information about the PCs. |
Furrel: "Greetings, I am Sir Furreltoff Mellburrow, Knight of the Round Table and Popper of Dragon's Eyes!" This lovable Kender Handler is played by Eric "Hoyce" Bowsfield. Furrel is the twin brother to a more studious minded Kender Ranger named Rufflefoot, who went off to parts unknown. Furrel has an uncanny knack for discovering the devious plots of the villains and foiling them by wandering off and stumbling upon vital clues that the rest of the party thinks is meaningless Kender-babble. He takes great pride in his appearance so he "borrows" only the best in Githyanki-child clothing trying desperately not to get any of his colors to match. He has yet to loose his lime green beret, not even while riding on the back of a black dragon. |
Edrick: <mumbles something you can't hear and nods> Edrick Robats, Paladin of the Inner Circle is played by Eric Smith. Edrick is the party's unofficial leader, this is primarily so that the party has an authority figure they can pick on and ignore the suggestions of. Though sometimes rash in his choices, he can often provide insight and searches for a peaceful solution if at all possible. He has had little official training as a Paladin, so his role is doubly hard. When a party member falls, you can count on Edrick to drop whatever he's doing and come to the rescue. He is never far from his faithful steed, an intelligent, speaking White Griffon called Alexander. |
Alexi: <glares and sizes you up for immediate termination> "What do you want here? Leave." Alexi, just Alexi is played by Keith "Fred" Ritchie. Alexi is a Magen, a magical construct in the appearance of an asexual man made of silver, and a Wild Mage. He was created at the Academy and is well over 2000 years old, after the last Mage fell and the Academy was protected from destruction by Cryalasis (Malace's teacher) Alexi was left to stand guard and wait for the coming of the time of the prophecy when he would leave the Academy and join the chosen ones in their pursuit of the end of the Reign of Malace. Alexi will go down in history as the only Mage to create a magic hoopak staff for a Kender. Though Alexi feels that he understands his purpose, there is much about himself that he has yet to discover.. such as memories that he can't recall having, and a spirit that has lasted for eons. Now that he has been killed and resurrected, he finds himself almost human but a strange sentience has taken over his former body. |
Raina: "We've got to consider both sides here.." Raina is a Gold Dragon Knight from the Outer Rim and is played by Marla Brown. A Dragon Knight is a character class that I designed and is loosely based on the concept of a Paladin. Raina was dropped off on the Isle of the Slumberer, where the Academy is located, by an Ancient Gold Dragon. Her assignment is from the Golden Council itself ( a council of 7 Ancient Gold Dragons) and it is to assist the chosen ones in their quest to destroy Malace. Personally, however, she's in it to get her shot at destroying K'Tharduk Addikin, the High Dragon Lord of the Githyanki, as he wears armor made from the skin of one of the most noble gold dragons ever to live. |
Keogh: "...and I'll handle the dragon ..." The Demon Lord Keogh, our champion of the dead, is played by Pat Parry. Keogh did not originate in this campaign, but came from a desert world at the crossroads of the Astral Plane. Keogh's mother, a Githyanki, was abandoned for dead in a human settlement and the end of a Githyanki raid gone bad, she died in the birthing process and Keogh was given to an orphanage. He was not liked because he was different, and he spent much time out in the steppes of the desert by himself where he discovered that he could speak freely with the dead. They taught him much about fighting, stealing and in later years magic use. Eventually, Keogh bartered his (then vamprized) body and was made a Demon, though his hart is still pure and his soul still noble. He was betrayed by a demon that was supposed to be helping him and trapped in a soul stone, then flung to the neither regions where the stone eventually made it's way to the Realm of Malace.. long before Malace reigned. Keogh was freed from the soul stone by the restless spirts of the dead when the stone was brought to the Academy and a powerful Necromancer (one who rips knowledge from the dead) came nearby, the tortured spirits still clinging to her. Since then he has decided to join the chosen ones and destroy Malace, in an effort to pave the way home and settle a few scores with the Lich-Queen Gith, a creature known only as the Dark Phoenix, and a certain betraying demon.. |
Nori: "I must free my people, no matter the cost" Played by Magdalen "the Foul Temptress" This Sirine, taught to be a Druid by her "foster mother" called only "Meema" an ancient aquatic elf, was raised since birth to destroy a powerful sea creature known as Obfuscate. She acquired the assistance of the Chosen Ones and traveled to get an ancient Artifact of immense power in an abandoned temple.. there Edrick destroyed the Artifact and all hope of defeating Obfuscate. Now Nori travels with the group until such time as they make it up to her, and free her people from the tentacles of this strange Kraken/Beholder creature.. |
NPC's of Note: |
Gunther: "Lats kick those yella-baak's hides and free my people!" Gunther Dalikak, is the King of the Dwarves. The Clan Dalikak actually resides on the southern island of Cryalasis, but that didn't prevent Gunther from moving his entire clan to the isle of Dracos to wage war on the Githyanki. Gunther is a quiet but passionate man who seeks for the freedom of all races, starting with his people. Both a proficient strategist and a charismatic leader, he will not rest until the Dwarves are free and the Githyanki defeated. He owes the Githyanki at least that, as they took the life of his only son, Baim. Recently, Gunther has discovered the Hammer of Moradin, the last relic of the now almost defunct Dwarven religious system. When he lifted it up, it changed him.. and soon the dwarves may have a King-Priest and a theocracy... |
Tevis: "Leave my Forrest I will not. Though help you, I will." Tevis, the mongrelman Druid has been a key figure in the path of the chosen ones, and was the first to recognize them for who they are. He provides whatever assistance he can, but much of what he does goes against his most deeply seated beliefs. |
Dwak: "I do bad things to magic <shrug>" Dwak Dalikak, nephew of King Gunther, was originally played by M. Jack Matirko. Dwak is an experimental new character class that doesn't have a name right now (let's call it Anti-Mage in the interim). Dwak discovered that he could disrupt the magical energies of spell casters and even render them unable to use magic and dispel previously existing magical effects. He joined the chosen ones at the request of his uncle, King Gunther Dalikak of the Dwarven Clan Dalikak, and at the chagrin of Alexi who's magical powers are dampened by standing anywhere near Dwak. Dwak is a passionate man when it comes to drinking, and stomping Initiates. Crushed in an avalanche and left for dead, Dwak lead a small group of Udinnar against their Dao oppressor with the help of the party. He turned on them however, when the Dao's source of power, and Dwak's prize was destroyed. If the avalanche and abandonment didn't drive him insane, his quest for power will. |
Sir Jonathan BloodDrake, Paladin: <glares at Edrick> "To call yourself a Paladin, is to insult the honor of all Paladins" Jonathan so far has been insulted, dishonored, ignored and generally abused by the party .. and that was before the Gold Dragon Council commanded him to accompany the Chosen Ones. Jonathan travels with the group and tries his best to keep them all alive in an attempt to reach Tharsis, where he believes he is the only person capable of defeating the Dark Titan.. He does his best to lead by example, but Edrick has his own ideas about Paladinship. |
Conor: "What would Furrel do..?" A dwarven slave freed by the Chosen Ones, Connor is Furrel's squire and is a combination of the light hearted spirit of the Kender, the good sense of a dwarf, and the innocence of a child of his tender years. |
Dolby: "Please to be not paying any attention to Dolby" A brownie who became infatuated with Furrel and chose to follow him in his footsteps, Dolby stays out of sight, and out of mind as best as he can. As long as no one pays any attention to him, he's content to bring gifts of food, and the occasional gift of re-attaching a Demon Lord's head here and there. |
I will soon be adding a "Story Thus Far" section that will be updated each time we play, maps, links to very cool DM utilities, and new class pages, new rules pages, and anything else that I can. : )
